If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

Just looked that Dunbine show and it looks like it might be pretty good. I'm definitely going to give it a shot.

So, has anyone else here ever watched Aura Battler Dunbine? One of my all time favorite shows, and its so criminally under-represented.

I've always wanted to see it, but, like 99% of anime, I never have. Unfortunately I think you'll find that discussion of anime older than a year will find little purchase here. A couple people here have seen over 1000 shows, though, and I would guess Dunbine is among them.

I only ended up watching it because I went on a Tomino streak where I was watching a whole bunch of what he made

Dunbine instantly struck me as pretty much one of the best shows

But its unfortunate people here don't discuss older shows then, they're mostly what I watch nowdays, QQ.

Dunbine is definitely on my to-watch list, just haven't gotten to it yet. I'll probably watch it eitther after I finish Macross 7, or after something else if I want to watch something non-mecha after finishing all Macross 7 stuff.

Dunbine is supposed to be a good, fantasy kill'em all Tomino show. I'm sure it will be worth the watch.

We were telling Kaze to go miracle up a copy, but I think the short should be included for that Takeuchi artbook releasing late Oct.

Edit - Doublechecked just now, artbook only an artbook, it just includes that manga that came w/ mirai fukuin. So I guess we'll have to wait till they publish that last bit of writing. That or slavedrive Kaze.

orz I'm planning to go asap but the first few days involve suffering a million legal documents. Don't think I can actually miracle a copy but I'll try.
Actually I saw the premise and was just like not sure if I want to read. Was going to go through it on principle of it being Tanaka Romeo butttttt

that's basically my thoughts as well =/

What do you mean by 'meat' (and 'broom?' I don't remember anything from IS aside from "ecchi")? Do you mean the blonde chick? o.o

I agree it wasn't a great series by any means but it wasn't IS. I actually enjoyed Haganai lol.

Not reading manga pays off afterall. :p

What's broom in moon, Souma?

Thing about IS is that, in spite of all the stupidity, the author actually doesn't focus so much on the retarded broom antics that makes the series unbearable. There are just too much stupid all around that he actually can't write mostly about the most retarded of them all. This magically made it a somewhat bearable series with the most painful portions kept at bay by other considerably less dumb portions.

Haganai on the other hand had meat, a lot of meat, and it doesn't stop throwing meat at you because she is actually popular. If it had only followed the IS ways of the main 'plot' being diluted down to nothing by infinite side characters, it would actually have been better. Sadly that wasn't the case and mecha porn didn't take as much time as it could've.

Also not reading manga never pays.

While I had higher expectations (foolish I know) of Haganai I still enjoyed it and would watch a third session. I'd say it has potential to change pace based on the later episodes of the second season (to something more like the name would imply, actual social/friend stuff), but I rather doubt that'd actually happen.

Also need more servant x service. That show was great.

To the best of my knowledge, it just turns into a harem where the MC denies having a harem in spite of having one. What is a parody and social stuff?

Last few episodes of the second season where Rika becomes the focus. It doesn't get too deep, but it's a pretty noticeable shift in focus.

Fairly certain it was just a small thing to make her a part of the harem instead of shipping herself with gundams.

Yeah, Basara/Fukuyama is the main reason I'm finally getting around to watching Macross 7.

Also, you seem pretty well versed in my favorite genre (mecha), you got a MAL?

Mmm I think its far enough a head where they could do a S3 right now. Its on break atm and the next chapter won't come out until december tho

It does get a lot darker when they start to interact more with Synapse and some of the other characters and reveals that come from that. Right now it all depends on the author what way he wants to continue, he could go for the "everything works out" type or basically make it pretty freaking sad. There is also a lot of interesting connections that have been made from some of the early elements so it should be cool to see how it shakes out.

afaik there are some significant differences between the anime and the manga (especially when it comes to how S2 ended)

>Macross 7

So.. Are you listening to Basara's song?

But yeah, Dunbine is a really good Tomino show, i honestly think its probably one of his best.

Yeah, Basara/Fukuyama is the main reason I'm finally getting around to watching Macross 7.

Also, you seem pretty well versed in my favorite genre (mecha), you got a MAL?

Nope, I'm a mecha person through and through, to the point that i'm one of those morons that posts on /m/. I can suggest mecha shows pretty well though.

Then we are brothers! I lurk /m/ frequently, and post seldomly, since two of my favorite shows are absolutely despised by the overall community there.

Top 10 mecha anime?

Oh lord. Thats hard

I'd probably throw up like, Xabungle, Dunbine, Big O, Gunbuster, Turn A? Thats likely my 5.

I dunno, thats really hard, part of is i haven't watched too much recently, taking a break for other things, and mostly what I have watched has been Tomino shows.

And Valvrave. Cause that show is like.. Its so batshit.

Anyone know how far ahead Otoshimono manga is from the S2 anime?

Been rewatching S1 and Im thinking of picking up the manga since I hear it turns "dark" and "serious". =O

Ah, everything I needed to know, thanks. Ill consider catching up on the manga before S3 comes around. S3 was also announced on MAL but still no official date yet, I hope itll be soon. I forgot how much I actually enjoyed this series 2-3 years ago.
