That's unfair to say yo. You can't be like "Oh if you don't like it, then just don't watch." There are people who watch because they like finishing things they stat. There are people who are told "dude, it picks up after episode X."
The idea that you shouldn't bother rating something just because "thousands of people tell you otherwise" is a ludicrous notion that basically says "If you don't think the same way as everybody else there's just something inherently wrong and you just weren't in the target audience so fuck off."

Taste in anime is actually one of the most inconsequential and stupid tastes among the other different kinds of tastes (movies, books, food, music etc) that are probably just a little bit less inconsequential than anime.
Just a quick peruse on ANN and MAL will give you an idea of how badly people like to shit on other people's tastes for the worst reasons. The biggest problem is that soooo many people (not pointing at anyone in this thread in particular) treat anime as if it's in some kind of vacuum that exists without the presence of books, movies, other forms of media that can be compared and so the baseline standard for anime is just an anime that's better than the usual bad...which is sad.

You know why I don't watch something like Bleach? Because I'm not the target audience. So if someone was to ask me "What do you think of Bleach?" I'd have to answer "I don't know really it's not my kind of thing". I wouldn't answer "it was shit 0/10" because that would be a lie. So why you'd feel it would be fine to watch something obviously not for you, then say you didn't like it and thought it was terrible I really don't know. It's like going through MAL, picking a show that has "Comedy, SOL" in it's genres and going "Well I don't like comedy or SOL but I'll watch this anyway" and then being surprised you don't like it. It's not dumb reasoning that if 100 people found something funny, but you didn't, that the one who probably missed the humour was you. It's dumb thinking you're the correct one in that circumstance.
Also if you watch a 23 (was it?) episode anime that you don't like the only one who really loses is you.

So what you're saying is that just because a majority of people think something is funny and you don't, there's something wrong with you, or you were just stupid and did not get the humor.
Let's forget the fact that humor is one of the most hit or miss forms of entertainment out there, and just think about that statement for a moment, that just based on how many people like something, if you don't conform to that, there is obviously something wrong with you.
OR, if there's nothing wrong with you, it's that the anime was just not intended for you. Those are the only two reasons why something is bad to you.
Alternatively if there's an anime that a lot of people ignore/disregard, that means by you liking it, there must be something wrong with you.

Sure, but I don't see why you can say you have a rational hate for something and then go turn around and say someone's evaluation of another show is wrong just on the basis that there will be "thousands of people telling you you're wrong."
Granted, I think Sentenal's hatred for Lucky Star is pretty unfounded, but actual hatred for other shows are not imo.

Usually the answer is no, because it's not really what Americans like. But plenty of British people think it's great. That doesn't make it bad because as an American you didn't find it funny. That's just how it is.
