Thought last episode was pretty good. It wasn't the stupid type of fanservice where the MC would conveniently trip on something and land on top of the girl with his hands on her boobs or random panty shots.
They were having a festival, so obviously some form of dancing/entertainment is involved. Also, they travel near the damn equator or somewhere close to it that's basically super hot year round. If you think it's fanservice for wearing clothing typical of that area, then there's something wrong with you.
Just because Urobuchi is involved doesn't mean it has to be "grimderp/urobutcher"...
I very much doubt that thing was the true Hideauze that Ledo has been fighting for years. It's most probably just a whalesquid that Bellows mentioned earlier in the episode. They've been shown a couple times that the Hideauze are just some fucked up mutations of squid, so it's not surprising if he confused them.

Don't worry Sent, Urobuchi actually doesn't have anything to do with the parts of Gargantia that aren't grimdark. He will write only the last episode which will be grim and dark and give you mature feelings of despair.
