Oh well. It's no masterpiece, but at least the animation is amazing! Did you expect a masterpiece from an evangelion movie? I haven't seen anything from the universe of Gundam Unicorn (the other series), but I am still able to enjoy Unicorn. Of course, there's still some stuff I'm missing I'm still pondering over the movie I watched yesterday (Evangelion) and trying to figure out what it was about... Why would you jump into the 3rd movie of a series without having watched anything else? While Gundam Unicorn is part of an already established universe/timeline, it isn't a DIRECT sequel to anything. While on the other hand, Evangelion 3 has that '3' there for a reason. You should use your brain some when deciding to watch things. Don't be a shithead. I watched Iron Man 2 in theaters without seeing the first one. I don't think I missed anything for not seeing the first one except for some details about Tony Stark and his relationship with whats-her-face. You did miss stuff, but it isn't like any of that is as required for Iron Man. The same can't be said for Evangelion. Don't be a shithead. Overall Sent, and TL anime lovers, is Evangelion as a whole worth more time? Like I said earlier, visually, I was very pleased (I've asked once for something visually good ^^), but story wise, I am confused. Personally I'm not a fan of Evangelion, and liked the Rebuild movies slightly more than the TV series/EoE. I would say that the TV Series/EoE is worth a watch, if only due to how important an anime it is.

A lot of very talented people work really hard to produce terrible anime, but you don't sing their praises. Conversely, if Evangelion became a masterpiece by accident, that shouldn't make any difference either. I'm in the camp who saw the show when it debuted, thought it was meh, and put it away. When I rewatched it years later, I realized how much I had missed. You might say it isn't deep, but I feel like all of Eva's depth is organic and comes from the characters' natural behavior or little things thrown in randomly, as you mentioned. It forces you to pay attention and rewards you for doing so. Other series often attempt to recreate this atmosphere, but can't, because when it's overly manufactured it comes off like teenage angst. Author's intent pretty important mang. Also, I told myself I'd watch the TV series before I finished my 300th entry on MAL, and since I just finished #294, I think I'm gonna get started soon. Yeah, watch it. You'll probably enjoy it since you always have that sad face emoticon. I was depressed as fuck when I watched it (first anime I watched, cause of the thread on TL and cause I was depressed) and it was great, kind of just depressed me more though lol. I got my shit sorted eventually though.
