But for the story, for someone that has no background with Evangelion (never watched or read anything), the story made close to 0 sense Wow thx for sharing that. But I cant help imagine that this would be true for anything..... Anyways eva story telling is pretty awful but thats not really new to the franchise. But I think its fair to say that you should watch some of what your talking about in a coherent order before making a statement on it? On May 06 2013 16:40 Blargh wrote:Yeah, and... + Show Spoiler +The whole Rei plot was pretty much revealed to Shinji (and viewers) in about 5 minutes by Kozo (a minor character so far...) which really turned me off. Oh well. It's no masterpiece, but at least the animation is amazing! Did you expect a masterpiece from an evangelion movie? I haven't seen anything from the universe of Gundam Unicorn (the other series), but I am still able to enjoy Unicorn. Of course, there's still some stuff I'm missing I'm still pondering over the movie I watched yesterday (Evangelion) and trying to figure out what it was about... Why would you jump into the 3rd movie of a series without having watched anything else? While Gundam Unicorn is part of an already established universe/timeline, it isn't a DIRECT sequel to anything. While on the other hand, Evangelion 3 has that '3' there for a reason. You should use your brain some when deciding to watch things.

to be perfectly fair, you can watch all of evangelion in the correct order and still not know whats going on

I watched Iron Man 2 in theaters without seeing the first one. I don't think I missed anything for not seeing the first one except for some details about Tony Stark and his relationship with whats-her-face.

To be fair Iron Man isn't quite Evanglion.

Evangelion was so awesome to me when i was 14yo, i didnt understand a shit but EVA/Angels are so damn cool and i love Rei and Misato. Nowadays i watch it because i want to see what/how exactly does Hideaki Anno want to tell the full story when he had the unlimited budget rofl.
My current stance is that Evangelion is not an anime to be understood but something simply requires your love. Either you love it or dont give a damn about it. Trying to understand it is against the true meaning of love: love is unconditional. Or just try tvtrope it, probably the best compilation of well thought out opinions of the anime.
I haven't watched 3.0 but you can tell that i will like it anyway. I appreciate every opportunity to see my rei and misato alive again in official stuffs. And ya, you can probably tell that i have been poisoned by Eva since i was young and i am actually fine about it <3

Ironman 1 2 and 3 concluded their story after the movie was done. The rebuild series were ended on cliffhangers... Its more equivalent to watching the last Lord of the Rings movie without watching the first two

You should try watching, because apparently people either love it or hate it. If you don't like it then just stop watching and if you like it, well then that's great for you.
Sounds like you liked the Eva movie you watched so you should at least give the original a try and definitely watch the first two movies so that the 3rd makes more sense. It still probably won't make that much sense, though, that's just kind of the way Eva is.

If you dont mind character De-development than ya its worth a watch. Episode 14 of the original series is where ppl start to get mixed feelings about the series so if you start disliking it from there then you should drop it. Its pretty intresting watch in my opinion but dont let ppl like Blargh fool you into thinking its SODEEP.
I would guess that Sent will say its not worth it but its honestly more for you to decide.

I liked Evangelion as well, mainly because I was confused as fuck.

Don't know about "deep", but the thing I love most about Evangelion is how much stuff ends up unexplained/up to your own interpretation. Even in interviews, when Anno is asked for clarification on certain insignificant events in the story, he's like "lolnope". It's a series that will stay on your mind forever.

Yeah, but honestly the intent doesn't matter. The effect does. A lot of very talented people work really hard to produce terrible anime, but you don't sing their praises. Conversely, if Evangelion became a masterpiece by accident, that shouldn't make any difference either.
I'm in the camp who saw the show when it debuted, thought it was meh, and put it away. When I rewatched it years later, I realized how much I had missed. You might say it isn't deep, but I feel like all of Eva's depth is organic and comes from the characters' natural behavior or little things thrown in randomly, as you mentioned. It forces you to pay attention and rewards you for doing so. Other series often attempt to recreate this atmosphere, but can't, because when it's overly manufactured it comes off like teenage angst.

TV version of Nylarko W 5 was, in fact, censored. CR wasn't.

Thank god for HS then.
Anyway, finished a huge exam today so now I'm gonna go celebrate by finally reading Umineko, let's see if it makes more sense than the anime...

Author's intent pretty important mang.
Also, I told myself I'd watch the TV series before I finished my 300th entry on MAL, and since I just finished #294, I think I'm gonna get started soon.
