Unless you mean because she unconsciously acknowledges Squealer as a human being after learning about the bakenezumi or something? Even though, I don't see the point of sacrificing Saki (who's from the start treating them with respect) to save a pile of goo who killed many of her kind, including parents and friends. She can't atone alone for the whole human species' sin and she deserved a bit of happiness at the end. Would have felt more than gratuitous. + Show Spoiler + Yes, she should have died for consciously acknowledging Squealer as a human. imo it would have been a beautiful testament to their ideals of non-violence. Saki should have passed away, willfully, due to the death feedback. Of course, I prefer for her to live as well, but as far as the story goes, I think it would have been a more powerful ending.

Maybe she can recognize him as Squealer, but due to his state can no longer recognize him as human or even a Queerat.

They were able to kill queerats because they were deformed enough to not be acknowledged as human... but what if someone still strongly believed that queerats were humans and killed one? Would they die? imo if Saki died after killing Squealer that question could have been answered too. Remember, Maria's kid died because he killed a queerat, which basically confirms that the death feedback is all mental (he thought he was a queerat and died because he killed a queerat).

I think Saki was able to kill Squealer because she didn't really acknowledge him as a human, even subconsciously. I wanted the ending to be the opposite of that. :p On March 28 2013 09:02 Nagisama wrote: + Show Spoiler + Just means subconsciously, Saki is just as racist and discriminating as the rest of humanity in that world. + Show Spoiler + ilu

I just think it's possible that she wasn't able to mentally acknowledge him as human or a queerat because he looked like a piece of jello when she killed him.
