http://myanimelist.net/people/10231/Koike_Takeshi Is this guy responsible for Redline feeling so authentic? That movement, camera angles and straight immersion. There was so nice scenes too like the cig seller, those little chicken heads comin at protagonist and about everything of that mafia boss.
Watched Gurren Lagann because it was in the suggestion list and from the description on Sentenal's blog. It is the funniest, most entertaining mecha series I've seen, but manages to have a serious plot while throwing logic out the window. Fighting spirit being the main driver for Simon's Lagann is silly from a realistic standpoint but is really the essence of mecha and anime protagonist in general. It allows the story to have a pretty large focus Simon's character growth which in turn makes his Gurren Laggann stronger as opposed to being a skilled pilot/newtype/using a better mech.
A lot of negative comments about the show seem to about + Show Spoiler +
Kamina's death and how he made the show, but I think it was a unique direction for the show to take compared to flash back or episode one type motivations. Kamina was an established character so when he died the viewer would feel sad too as opposed Simon's family being killed in some tragic past by the villain (even though that technically did happen too).
I enjoyed the second half of the series as well even if it had less humor and was more serious. The ending + Show Spoiler +
was an interesting mixture of sadness and happiness killing off a lot of side characters and even Nia. However I would still consider it a good ending.

I watched 1 episode of Gurren Lagann and it was weird to be honest! I'll probably give it a few more episodes before judging it though

Glad you enjoyed it. If you liked it, you should check out some of the other Super Robot stuff I mentioned in my blog, particularly Gunbuster (as its made by the same company that did TTGL). ^^

It's a weird show you were not wrong to think that. It's also a inspirational show if you enjoy Kamina's endless optimism and Simon's attempt at emulating that spirit or you might just think it's corny. Even though it's silly the show does have some good although ridiculous fight scenes. I would at least give the series until episode 3 as you'll understand the basic premise of Gurren Lagann and from then on the series keeps the plot moving quickly. Episode 5 where they introduce Rossiu is probably the slowest episode, but it becomes an important part of the series.

Already on Gunbuster because of your blog haha although the series seems to have a pacing problem because of how short it is. It's only 6 episodes long but + Show Spoiler +
Episodes 1-3 main character is useless then suddenly episode 4 first time piloting the Gunbuster saves the world. I do like the environment of Gunbuster with it's attempt at scientific realism, but Noriko's character growth felt unnatural.
