Like I said, most people here don't like it, or at the very least think it's overrated.

But regardless, that just means they're having fun, which is a primary reason why Code Geass is so popular. So unless you say that people are not having fun watching it, I don't see how it's a pointless argument to make. The reason why CG, along with so many anime are popular is because they're fun to watch, for one reason or another. Not everyone can sit down and deeply contemplate rich and complex themes and appreciate those things and digest them as easily as something simple like CG. Also, I'm well aware that deeply contemplating rich and complex themes and appreciating them can be considered "fun" to some people, but we're talking about shows like Code Geass so it's best not to mention those things because I'm sure they don't exist in that show anyway. It goes without saying that people who enjoyed Code Geass thought it was fun. But I'm pretty sure there are also people who do not consider it fun. fun adjective informal amusing, entertaining, or enjoyable: it was a fun evening Whether I consider a show amusing, entertaining or enjoyable, i.e. fun, is entirely subjective. It's like saying "ice cream tastes good". On February 20 2013 08:01 thezanursic wrote: Okay how about this I really don't understand all the fuss behind code geass because when I watched it seemed really shallow, putrid, deplorably written and no character development. Now I hope that I'm not breaking some kind of wall or taboo, but I really want to know what the TL anime community thinks about this particular anime because I never really understood and I still don't why something so bad can mass such a legion of fans (except the room) No, you see, it's FUN. Oh dear, my friend just finished SAO and is calling it awesome. I guess I'll have to... educate him. + Show Spoiler + Considering that he found ALO to be awesome as well, I don't have a lot of hope.

I don't want to offend anyone, but anime fans aren't (or at least weren't - this is part of the problem, new popular people liking "your" thing and you having more refined taste)the most average/normal people. I would even wager that a lot of those guys were the nerdy guys in highschool without many friends and experiences like other people and formed many defense mechanisms as a way to cope. Now, on the internet, someone who clearly has "worse" taste than you is trying to tell you something, you feel like the authority, like the one with power, like the one who's right, and you want to clearly show who's the alpha dog. It's finally you. If somebody tells you that people should just enjoy what they enjoy, that's kinda breaking the whole superiority thing for you. Anime was always there for when the real world betrayed and hurt you, it was an amazing experience for you that normal people didn't know about. You take pride in having good taste and having spent a lot of time refining it. Meh. I could probably word this better if I tried, but I think that's part of the reason why anime is such an "elitistic" hobby. + Show Spoiler + Inb4 >projecting Is it just me who think that the original post was a joke but people take that seriously?xD And ya, anime/manga is a torture. I hate myself for being a fan of Guyver and Five Star Story. I hate that young me who read the first page of these manga.
