If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

Air Kanon Clannad are shows that you really need to be familiar with that style of VN to enjoy. It's thoroughly Japanese shows as opposite to stuff like FMA which have a more universal appeal.

I liked kinda the first half where nothing happened, because nothing happened. It was just this guy who was/had been travelling.

Yeah it got progressively worse as it went on, but I still didn't really like where it started. I thought it was incredibly stupid that the entire town was comprised of only women and young girls. It was bad enough that when one male character showed up I correctly predicted who he was in relation to the main characters just because he was a man.

Actually, that doesn't look complicated at all. What makes it LOOK complicated is someone panel lined the shit out of that thing. The vast majority of black lines on that thing aren't from different parts, but rather inked in with a Black Paint Marker.

In general, simple Gundams (like the original, Ground Type, Mk II, etc) and Zaku variants are by far the simplest Gunpla to put together, since they are the ones that Bandai has had the most experience in producing, not to mention their designs aren't complicated anyway.

Thanks for the Votoms list Sentenal. Have finished the Last Red Shoulder to Shining Heresy. I think I enjoyed Roots and Heresy the most, Armor Hunter was an interesting take on Votoms though. Shining Heresy + Show Spoiler +
does indeed explain the ending of the main series and is a little sad. Kind of wish Heresy was longer and more old characters showed up, but the story did wrap itself up nicely. Although the way Chirico shot the Auxiliary Brain was a bit eyebrow raising, but at this point it was not surprising since Chirico's plot armor was part of the plot so it made sense.

Some of the other sequel OVAs, like Alone Again and the Phantom Arc have more old characters showing up, especially Phantom Arc. + Show Spoiler +
Chirico's plot armor can be eyebrow raising if you don't keep in mind its part of the plot, and his inability to die mostly just leads to him being alone and suffering forever, which is kinda depressing.

Oh, yeah I fucking hated how he was the only dude, except for that guy who gives him the cake. Who was that guy? I thought he was the main girl's ghost dad at first.

He was. That's what I found so funny, is that I knew he was the dad as soon as he came on screen.

Yeah it was Kemono Souja Erin, I think we've been over it a few times already. Also iirc it was like Souma/Kaal and not Spazerbot that did the additions, the bot might've generated the pic.

I just recently finished watching that. As someone who doesn't really enjoy all that much space opera, it was really good.

Consider all the dodging from last week you need to be done with like, Banner 2 now. This ZNF.

Well, to be fair, in my limited anime experience most shows have girls outnumbering boys. Which at first is kinda annoying, but you get used as just being one of cliches (can't think of better word for it) of the art. Air, however, is just one guy in the land of women and little girls. Yeah it's a bit more extreme.

Gobe, if you want shows where it's not always girls>boys you could try Mushishi, Texnohlyze or Shinesaki yori. In Shinesaki yori it might be hard to tell at first but there are actually three guys and two guys in the friend group. Also, Texnohlyze and Mushishi are more out there in terms of not being regular anime, where as Shinesaki yori is closer to home, so to speak.

It's not really about more guys than girls as it is just not a stupid and obvious lonely dude fantasy of a world populated only by attractive girls that randomly give the main character an undeserved amount of attention.

It's always been like that. Thinking that it's a recent development is just having rose-tinted glasses. The issue is just that some of the studios that used to not do that have converted, and that's where most of my (our?) rage comes from. Again though, in general if you want mature-oriented stuff you're probably better off looking at films and OVAs, the latter of which are basically mini-movies (long production time, high budget, not movie-length). A good example of this point is Rurouni Kenshin - the manga and TV series are both very shounen and targeted toward like prepubescent boys, but the OVA is very dark and definitely not for kids.

There are some manly anime out there :D
I think there isn't a single woman in Akagi, and there must be one or two in Kaiji (for a combined screen time of like 30 seconds).
