If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

@Gobe: You can take a look at my list. Everything from 10 till 8 is definitely watchable, though there is some mecha and sports in it. Several of the 7ens are fine as well, Casshern Sins, Claymore, RideBack, Aoi Bungaku Series(two stories at least) etc.

"Seinen" is a genre, it's not really about how old you are. Azumanga Daioh may be targeted towards 18+ males, doesn't make it a seinen.
Regardless, I agree with a lot of your MAL scores

Seinen is NOT a genre. It's a demographic. A genre tells you what the show or media is about, aka sci-fi, fantasy, horror. Seinen doesn't tell you that. Seinen means it's aimed at 18-24+ year olds, and will consist of a variety of genres.

That's what I see as a problem and that's why I agree with ZenithM. Like regarding anime, it depends on where the manga was serialized, in a seinen, shounen or whatever magazine. So even if the anime is darker and bloodier, it would still be a shounen if the manga falls into that category. Aa! Megami-sama! is for <15 years old, why is it in a seinen magazine? It just makes no sense to me.

Damn, here I was hoping the 8-10s would be shit. But it's actually all good stuff aside from like F/SN anime out of the ones I've watched.

Also I'm suprised you've watched Akagi and Baseball Akagi but not Kaiji. Shame on you.

Why watch Kaiji when you can ask cheep to videocam ZNF playing mahjong?

Kaiji isnt even about mahjong.... ;..;

It is about moe suffering, what's your point?

Uh, Ah! My Goddess, is definitely Seinen. Harem shows that show more skin, show more blood/death, or have a more romance based focus instead of just fun with friends Harem tend to be Seinen.

It does make sense, just not the sense you are looking for. Its just that everyone, for some reason IDK why, likes to use those terms to describe content within an anime. When in reality, "Seinen" has absolutely nothing at all to do with the content, with how dark, bloody, or "mature" it is. Which is why terms like "Seinen", "Shounen", and "Shoujo" are by far the most useless ways to describe an anime ever. I don't really think this is an argument either, unless you want to argue with a dictionary :/

It wouldn't be Kaiji, it'd be watching the KugiRie loli from Saki. ZNF has already confirmed how he's 100% like her.

Hmm, well yeah, that's the definition for the word "seinen". I have still a hard time classifying K-ON as seinen, even if that would probably be this show's main demographic group. That's why if you look for the "Seinen" genre on MAL (which is what everyone links anyway :D), you will find what Gobe was looking for: less cute girls and haremish stuff.
When I see an anime tagged as seinen, as you said, I expect a variety of genres, but not all of them either.

Yeah, I know that as I wrote in my first post regarding that matter. And it's definitely no argument, just something that I can't be satisfied with, that I can't understand.
But in one thing I have to disagree. If someone says XY is your typical shounen anime, I definitely know what it's about

Somewhat true, since Shounen stuff tend to be more alike than Seinen stuff. But then again, I know people who claim to be "shounen fanboys", but insist the term only applies to DBZ clones, and therefore refuse to watch other shounen stuff like Gundam or TTGL because "not shounen", lol. Things like that is why I just really dislike those terms in general, since everyone means something different when they use them.

I feel like the only place the words Shonen/Seinen/Shoujo/Josei apply usefully are to drama and romance.

Otherwise useless.

Just finished The Breaker...

Holy shit, I seriously am interesting in the sequel and can't wait to start reading it. But I just felt that "part 1" was too short, it felt a bit rushed.

Will "New Waves" also be this fast in progression?

The last like half of it (the whole final fight scene) is pretty quick to read through, as it's pretty standard fighting series stuff imo.

I dislike New Wave, honestly, I kind of gave up on it. I also disliked the second half of the original Breaker, since the draw for me was the mystery surrounding the characters, but instead what we got was "lol 50 chapter fight scene" and then a character and story almost reset and a bunch of new characters I don't particularly care for. Was kind of frustrating to me.

Make them watch Death Note (they will probably love it) and then tell them it's shonen. Problem solved.

Finished watching GitS: SAC, both seasons as well as the Solid State Society movie. I think it was a great watch, and while I really liked the original movie and Innocence as well, I think SAC ends up being slightly better as a whole mainly due to the fact that it's a lot longer. And also because of the Tachikomas. I just love those guys. The Tachikomas and Batou are easily the best characters.

On to getting started on Inganock for real, I've only read a little bit so far but the atmosphere/setting seems really cool.

Just finished The Breaker...

Holy shit, I seriously am interesting in the sequel and can't wait to start reading it. But I just felt that "part 1" was too short, it felt a bit rushed.

Will "New Waves" also be this fast in progression?

That was fast as fuck.

Haha, it was too good to stop reading.

Fuck me though, I have a massive assignement for Wednesday and I just can't look away from the computer screen.

Watching Phantom Arc of Votoms and it feels like fan service more than an actual story, not that I'm complaining since I wanted that in Shining Heresy. By fan service I mean throw backs to the original Votoms story, recreating original scenes with slight variations and better graphics.
