Wow that's kinda surprising since SAO novel is extremely popular

I don't think the SAO novels out-sell the Horizon blunt weapons lol.
|
Actually I am pretty sure SAO novels outsold Horizon, at least from Amazon.

It's not though. It has to be repeated so that everyone who watches and likes that show feels bad for it.
Watching/reading GAO is, no if's ands or buts about it, exactly like reading/watching Twilight or Shades of Grey. It's pure fanfiction/insertion with bland characterization that appeals to angsty teenagers and other such undesirables.

Wish fulfillment isn't exactly bad when it comes to entertainment, nor does SAO tries to be more than what it should be, at least, until Alicization, but by then the point should have been thematic enough to make a degree of sense. There are parts that are trashier than others, but really it hits par far as this market goes. There really isn't any reason to hold it up to any higher standard than what one would judge LNs with, that is, unless you are shauni and everything must be compared to b-rated flicks.
As for glop, lol, I hope people would give it a rest already. The guy wasn't even published by that point, writing porn for a wish fulfillment character is probably one of the easiest ways for you to sell your writing. Look at Key and how they caved in with LB:Ex. It isn't published because it isn't professional and it got taken off the guy's site, what more do people want?

From my point of view anime is either escapist or simple entertainment, with the rare genuine examples of art. SAO is, plain and simple, escapist/fantasy fiction written so the reader can put themselves in the POV of the protag and imagine/live out that world. I don't think it was intended more than anything else, and if it really makes you feel that bad that others are enjoying themselves doing so then I can't help you.

The more people that watch and buy crap like GAO we get less actual quality anime from series that actually have good characters or story. So if you like GAO you are literally killing anime.

Light Novels like Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria or Daiyuuden, or Visual Novels like Baldr Sky, Muramusa, Sharin no Kuni, Inganock or Narcissu.

K-On is the only real complete MOE series that's sold incredibly well, it's among the top 10 anime sold in the last 10 years. OreImo is the only other thing I would call a Moe show in the top 50.

Those aren't obscure titles, except maybe Utsohako. SAO is not an anime original series it's a light novel series. Like 80% of anime released is a light novel or visual novel adaptation.

Must be hard to not write about dango. Considering the average quality of anime, I'd much rather anime being dead instead of watching things I like get butchered.

Less actual quality like what? If you start listing fanservice anime I'm going to lose it. Light Novels like Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria or Daiyuuden, or Visual Novels like Baldr Sky, Muramusa, Sharin no Kuni, Inganock or Narcissu. Uh..."quality anime." You just gave a list of obscure titles that I assume you like. And the only difference between all of those and SAO is that SAO is popular. I don't follow. Those aren't obscure titles, except maybe Utsohako. SAO is not an anime original series it's a light novel series. Like 80% of anime released is a light novel or visual novel adaptation. I actually wouldn't want to see half of the stuff you listed in anime form lol. Also Daidenyuuden probably could get one if it ever finishes, author has been churning it out at a much slower rate. Must be hard to not write about dango. Considering the average quality of anime, I'd much rather anime being dead instead of watching things I like get butchered.
I wouldn't either I'm just giving examples of stuff that's better than GAO that could get an adaptation.
Edit: And yeah there's IS, Love Hina, Fruits Basket, things like that in top 50.

Glop Art Online. Okay I think that joke is dead at this point. Okay I'm waiting for some water to boil right now so I'll take the bait.
Ya but as you so kindly put it in the previous response to me (cbf finding it) and truthfully, you are right.
Although I DO like SAO, anime caters to the Japanese population and well, more so the otaku's. They are the people that buy all the figma, manga, LN's, DVD's etc.
The people that don't live in Japan, unfortunately no matter how much one doesn't like said anime, won't change the fact that certain animes (actually most animes) cater to a particular group. The group you said previously.
At the end of the day, it's about making money. :C

Well I assume you're speaking in terms of quality of the anime adaption but also quality of the source materials. VNs are 99% obscure and only known by otakus, don't kid yourself no one else in Japan follows them outside of the few that make it gamer "mainstream" like Clannad or steins;gate. And if it's doujin,it is also by definition obscure. SAO sells 100k+ per volume, the ones you've listed don't really rank on a quick glance of the charts. And they're still all on first glance fantasy stories with the exception of being even more tropish/bland than Sword Art Online. Popularity is what gets you adaptions, I still can't see your point.
