Forgot to mention that I am watching Fairy Tail and watched Bleach (but I quit because of filler chapters not only episodes -.-) Did anyone have animes in mind which are similar to them? :D
One piece Im fucking serious. Like most things its starts off pretty slow and bad but its one of those shows that gets better and better the further it goes.
Agreed ... One Piece is basically THE most advanced (not to say the best) Shonen. Storyline is great, character design makes every one of them pretty unique, it includes very good emotional moments, it's funny as shit (like really funny, can't count how many times I laughed out loud so hard) and it's developing on a scale that will probably give it the most epic ending of all Shonens ... in 10 years One Piece only has 2 problems for someone who's not already familiar with it IMO:
- it's fanbase: too many "new OP fans" that are basically brainlessly bashing every other anime than One Piece, this gives the impression OP fans are retarded kids and doesn't give credit to the fact that the most expert anime population on Earth (Japanese) do consider OP as the Holy Grail of Shonens.
- it's lenght: We're more than 550 episode into it and we're only halfway through ... For a newcomer, I'd advise you to start reading the scans so you don't loose anything of the story (really there's no "trash" arc in OP, and every single character we saw in the past gets more important in the future, so really there's no point in skipping parts of it), before you can decide whether you want to keep reading it or start watching it
Keep watching ;-P, it gets alot better. I believe it's up to episode 12 or so right now ( am not quite up to date myself), after that really go for brotherhood. It's such a good anime.
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood!!! it has a rough start but if u stick with it i guarantee you will love it
Screw you all. One day someone will see the light.

Just watched the two OVA episodes of Denpa Teki Na Kanojo. Damn, I love stuff like this. Such a shame it's just these two episodes and that's it. No third episode, no anime series. Makes me sad, I want more of yummy crazy people...
I know, right?! It's so so good and I actually hate that I cannot get more of it. Apparently there is even a book which revolves around Yukihime too, really want to read that cos she seemed interesting + Show Spoiler +
even though we didn't get to see much of her in action in the second episode.
Edit: Looks like time to pick up the stuff that (pre)airs today for summer season.
Yukihime book? I want it, she did seem pretty cool. Any idea of whether it's translated to english or not?
iirc the series got thrown up at Bakatsuki but probably stalled. Yukihime vol is vol 2 so if they ever got around to actually translating it should be done pretty fast.
Unfortunately author left the series on vol 3 and left other series too, and there seems to be no plans to do the last book left (they threw in a shot that hints at the events but that's it), so basically Seikai syndrome here.
Yes I am responding now because I just saw the post.

I was going to read vol 1 while going through this month's if anything good shows up and I need something else to read for breaks, except not.

I found a cool new chart on /m/ about the VN if you are curious about stuff: + Show Spoiler +
As for the TE anime, I'm not gonna fight and argue every episode from a VN stand point. I'm just gonna masturbate to the giant robots.
BTW, if any of you want to know the sense of "DOOM OMG ALIENS ARE GONNA FUCKING KILL US ALL" that the VN gives off, here is a cool youtube video:
Well, I have started playing now, thanks for the chart. I'll probably end up only doing the two required routes of Extra since, well, while I find Extra entertaining, I'm really here for the giant robots.
Oh well, time to say goodbye to IRL, thank God I have absolutely nothing else to do :D
What a let down with a crap finale. Yeah, you don't want to open up more questions and story points, but you're not getting a second season so all you did is leave a sour taste in my mouth. Shitfest ending.

I've watched a little anime(only subbed) and I want to get back into it but I was wondering, do you guys prefer subbed over dubbed when watching anime? I know some people who think that your not getting the best experience while watching dubbed anime because of bad voice actors. Is there a general rule of thumb on this? Any shows that must be watched dubbed because of great voice-over and any shows that must not be watched dubbed?

I can't think of a single anime where dubbed was even close to subbed. Then again, I tend to just stick to subbed so I might have missed a decent one, but in general dubbed seems to suck.

There are some good dubs, but in general, most subbed shows are better voiced. But its all opinions, anyway. Some people love their dubs.

The author actually takes big risks in his story, characters are ok and there's a good amount of funny moment that reminded me of One Piece (those "not just a smile" funny moment but really laughing out loud). I personally started to watch it quickly after watching Code Geass which I found to be one of the most awesome animes I've ever watched, and as far as tastes goes, I loved FMA Brotherhood, Death Note and Elfenlied too ... don't know if it's enough for you to trust me
Otherwise give a shot at Black Lagoon, quite different but really interesting storyline, much more mature from the beginning.
I... What?
TTGL is a solid show. Nothing novel/new, but was still fun and a good watch. One Piece is by far the best of its genre. Much better than Naruto/Bleach. Better than Fairy Tail too. Its worth the 500+ episodes.

Baccano was better dubbed imo. American voice actors did a better job with 1930's American accents than the Japanese ones, go figure. Disney's dubs of Miyazaki's films are also on par with the original Japanese. Disney actually hired A-list Hollywood actors to do the voices instead of the bums off the street that usually get used by western distributors.

In my opinion ( and many others I might add) cowboy bebop's english dub by far exceeds the japanese dub. Steve blum is the best actor they could've chosen for Spike, the rest of the characters have also been voiced extremely well too.

i grab your post on the way and would ask you how does it get after the fish island arc ? i found it extremly boring (reading scan, ended up flying through them then ended up stoping altogether) and so i don't find the will to finish it and read the next arc.
i don't realy know why i didnt like it, maybe too long, maybe no great action, maybe lack of laugh...
i realy hope i'll find the will to finish it (hell i didnt bought all the books until now to stop here, or did i ? ) but this arc is just too hard for me.
how is the next arc and wont i miss too much on the story if i skip the fish arc ?
samurai champloo dub was pretty good imo, watched it in english first though, later a second time subbed but switched to the dub again because i liked it better.

Fishman Island arc isn't that bad. If you are reading the manga, you should be able to just fly through it. Sure its not as epic as stuff leading up to it, but the stuff leading up to it was Marineford! The final battle of the arc is a power-up showcase, and the end of it is pretty good with its build up. The end of the arc basically has Luffy + Show Spoiler [end of arc spoilers] +
picking a fight with a Youkou like how he did with Crocodile at the start of the Baroque Works arc
. The current island they are on has Law and Smoker, and some other new dudes.

All dubs have what my friends and I call a "burger" feel to it. Most of the time it throws of the intensity of the va and the general dialogue of the show pretty badly. Champloo is one of those shows.
