If you come in here looking for "anime recommendations" then please refer to this chart before posting: Anime Recommendations (as of may 2014). We also have an IRC channel called #tladt where we all hang out. The channel is on Rizon, not QuakeNet! Feel free to check it out. TLADT discord is Discord.gg

For currently airing anime, please see Anichart.net

Berserk
Hajime no Ippo
Monster
Gankutsuou
Texhnolyze
Planetes
Boogiepop Phantom
Honey and Clover
Mushishi

Reccomendations please

if you liked honey and clover, you'll probably like nodame cantabile

Try Eden of the East? Same studio that did Honey and Clover

story is COMPLETELY different though... but its interesting... i was expecting something closer to honey and clover especially because chika umino did the character designs but... nope...

EDIT:

By Kanon 06 you mean the remake yeah? I think I may have seen 1-2 episodes of that but never finished. I think it was on the same lines of "Air" if I am not mistaken which I liked quite a bit. Any seinen in the past 2 years that you guys would recommend. Manga recommendations would be good too and will take less time to dl

Edit: Preferrably something finished , I do not like waiting for weekly episodes or chapters.

Kanon 06 is still a great anime, in my opinion...but I've never been able to get myself to watch it a second time (even though it's sitting on my hard drive). The fox arc was kind of weird...and having to rewatch that isn't an enticing thought, for me.

That arc was kinda short, could have gone one or two more episodes imo

Really? 'Cause when I watched it through, I couldn't wait for that arc to end. I liked it as a whole, but the way they panned it out was tedious for me.

I wish I had this in my high school days when the anime nerds walked around campus with those things strapped to their backpacks. -____-;;

Every time I saw one of them, I had to struggle to repress violent urges.

I love anime, and probably watch just as much as any other anime dork, but I just don't understand how you can get so far in to the point that you lay down a massive shunt like that between yourself and the rest of society...

BTW, while I'm procrastinating on my term paper, I might as well ask about this as it's been confusing the shit out of me for the longest time...

What the hell is the big deal about the Vocaloid program thing? It's a pretty cool idea (even though the voices sound like shit), but why are the characters and images from it hyped up so badly?

I see Vocaloid-related images fucking everywhere on English sites...which I don't get, because 99% of the English-speaking and anime-watching community cannot speak, read or write Japanese, so it's not like they'd be able to use the program, anyway.

So...could someone please explain this weird phenomenon to me? lol.

Vocaloid = creating songs through 'pre-recorded' and 'modified' voicing. Real actors do all the notes/sounds, then redigitalize them, then create songs.

They sound beautiful, and the characters don't look that bad either. That's why.

Yeah, I looked up what the program did, and even listened to some of the songs (and videos) on youtube...I still don't get how it's blown up as big as it has. ??

The character designs are definitely fun, but I didn't think that could be enough to create a hype wave that large...

Is there like background story attached to any of those characters or something like that?

Nope. But it's Japan. Anything that sounds/looks/feels good = popular

I think cosplaying is fine when people who can actually pull off the characters they cosplay do it...but even then, it just looks wrong on anyone not Japanese, or at least Asian. I think that's more of a cultural thing than a physical thing, though.

And about the Vocaloid thing...yeah, in Japan I can understand it completely, but I don't get how it became so big in the English speaking world...especially as there's a huge fucking language barrier barring foreign use of the program. At this point I'll leave it as an unanswerable question...lol. I don't think an answer exists that will satisfy me...haha.

They do it to have fun and garner a bit of attention. It's like having a key-chain on your bag that the people who share an interest with you will connect with. The same reason why you and I wear a T1 Adidas shirt in public, or a Stimpack shirt.

In the end, Cosplayers are just regular people like you and I who just want a bit of fun like at a halloween party where you dress up. Instead of Halloween, it's an anime convention. Seriously, its nothing to get a sudden urge of violence over.
