What the hell is the big deal about the Vocaloid program thing? It's a pretty cool idea (even though the voices sound like shit), but why are the characters and images from it hyped up so badly?
I see Vocaloid-related images fucking everywhere on English sites...which I don't get, because 99% of the English-speaking and anime-watching community cannot speak, read or write Japanese, so it's not like they'd be able to use the program, anyway.
So...could someone please explain this weird phenomenon to me? lol. No one actually brought it up, so I guess I'll revive that line of though. To be honest, I am not too sure myself, but the doujins on the vocaloids tend to focus on the fact that they are programs who will do your bidding. Now, project that onto a real setting and you get something that a good amount of otakus dream for (probably). Absolutely no idea about why it shows up on English sites though, moe perhaps? To be fair, Miku (in particular, the others less so) does generate pretty neat pictures every so often since enough people poke at the topic.

It is defined not light hearted, Konadora mistook sentence transition, one fault of mine. Kino's journey is quite deep and philosophical with some very strong themes within each episode, some of the themes dark and relating to solitude, lack of communication, war, censorship, greed, every episode covered a lot of themes, but the overarching theme is definetly positive . But overall really great anime that I would recommend to everyone.
Edit:Konadora if you thought it was ok you might want to rewatch it again as you may have not appreciated it well enough.

I just don't get why it's so big in the English-speaking world. But I guess it's as you say...moe character designs and ear pleasing (annoying for me...except for one that I thought was nice) songs. Like I said before, I just had no idea that character design alone could carry something so far.

Like I said before, I just had no idea that character design alone could carry something so far. It does look like a pretty neat program, though seeing it in English would be pretty unlikely imo. I do recall there being some Miku song done with everything in Japanese-English, sounded quite hilarious because it was so freaking odd. :p
In the English speaking world, though...meh? Hype and moe carries quite a long way even here, half of the hype about like, Higurashi or Lucky Star or even k-on are hype generated there and transmitted here. Someone mentioned 毒電波 earlier, that might as well as be the reason for all I know -.- Miku songs...can be good, or if nothing else, highly entertaining, if not pleasing to the ears, but the character design probably did the most. In terms of Japan though, imo, it is turning into a phenomenon quite similar to that of Touhou, where fan popularity and continued production of fan-made material continues its popularity and spread it to other non-fans.

Bah I had a post typed up and lost it somewhere when I was editing ><
With Kino no Tabi, which I also recommend to everyone, as the themes are quite universal, I'd like to say that if possible, look for the light novels. If memory serves, there are fan translation projects for it (there might be official commercial works, but I can't recall offhand). One of the biggest strength of the series is in the way the narrative shifts to fit the situation, something that the anime worked on but could not exploit as well as text could as a medium. One of the stories, largely about free speech, was pretty much done in a series of mock newspaper articles and columns, something that we simply won't see in an anime. So if possible, after trying the anime and perhaps liking it, people might want to consider looking for the light novel versions.

Read Shamo. Its serioiusly one of the most out there seinen manga i have ever read. Its about a guy who does brutal, badass karate with a mix of streetfighting. Now at this point its invovling other martial arts, and its all very interesting, realistic, and dark.

so, anyone else enjoying the new FMAs pace? compared to the first anime, it's been moving mucho faster, which i kinda like.

its ok... seems a bit redundant with the original- i didnt feel the original was too slow
unlike the new dragonball kai... which is AWESOME- each episode is like 20 episodes of the original dragonball z..

Hi boys and girls!
I turn to you with an odd request.Id like to read some description about a few anime ill list here. As u can see from the Titles im more of a drama, indepth anime.-lover and one of my friend reccommended these to me. What are your toughts? I would appreciate any feedback thx.
Boogiepop Phantom (Boogiepop wa Warawanai) TV 2000 12 Charcoal Feather Federation (Haibane Renmei) TV 2002 13 Claws of a beast (Kemonozume) TV 2006 13 Kaiba TV 2008 12 Now and Then, Here and There (Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku) TV 1999-2000 13 Paranoia Agent (Mousou Dairinin) TV 2004 13
|
I really liked Paranoia Agent a lot. It's my favorite anime. I don't really want to describe it since I don't like spoilers of any kind, and it's only 13 episodes, but you do have to watch the whole thing.
I know a lot of people are big fans of Now and Then, Here and There, but I didn't like it at all. It's one of my least favorite shows, in fact. In my opinion it undermined itself badly and failed to keep its themes consistent, which is suicide for a show that tries to be serious and dramatic. Once again I don't really want to be more specific, and it's also really short so you may want to give it a try anyway.
The others I haven't seen, but a friend whose taste I respect really liked Haibane Renmei.

I said Kino's Journey was light hearted as in, if you compare it with something like Phantom (the more serious-plot stuff). Kino's Journey did focus on all those 'wonder-about-what-life-is' and stuff, but I didn't find it all-that-serious.
@Pokerface: If you like drama, I suggest 'Kurosaki' or 'Bloody Monday'. Loved those a lot.
