Just because something is cute doesn't mean it's for females only. K-ON is classified as seinen, meaning for young males and even for older males, and is published in a seinen magazine too. The fact that there's almost no male characters in K-ON further emphasizes that it's for males. However, that's not to say some females don't like K-ON. When I went to watched the K-ON movie in Japan, I was expecting 100% males, but there were a significant amount females in the theatre too. Also, there's a difference between moe and slice-of-life. Just because Ika Musume and Working are slice-of-life, doesn't mean they're "moe-crap". Yeah, I'm definitely sure that K-On! is targeted toward males and is seinen. All of the people I know that have watched it and liked it are guys. I'm pretty sure that some girls think it's creepy that guys watch this show to see 2D girls giggle, scream moe moe kyun!, and look cute. I like K-On! though, it's more of a watch-when-you're-bored rather than watch for a plot. I'm definitely not one of those girls. I loved K-On! There was something so lovely about the series. Especially some of the quieter moments. It had a nice balance of fanservice moments, comedy and sentimental bits which really cheered me up whenever I watched it. Plus the character designs were cute imo due to their relative simplicity. Heck, I even own almost all of the nendoroids, and have K-On! posters on my walls. (I felt the same way about Oreimo too. Those two titles got me back into anime again last year due to their aesthetics, and the ease of watching them aka. they're both kind of relaxing.) By contrast I'm also a big fan of titles like Gantz, Elfen Lied, Tenipuri, Ao no Exorcist, Tiger & Bunny etc. I also prefer horror manga such as the work of Junji Ito. Variety is definitely the appeal of anime/manga for me personally.

My comments about girls not liking K-On! is based on my experiences in the US, so anime viewing isn't really "cool". I don't know how it is in other places though. I do agree that K-On! always cheered me up and never failed to deliver when I was sad. When depressed, I always watched K-On! and whenever unmotivated I listened to "Don't Say 'Lazy'". It only bad at the start haha afterward it doesnt get any where near as bad....atleast that is for the nudity. I understand what you mean since hte first 5 min of elfen lied is pretty sickening gory and the main character in Gantz a mega pervert but.....I think many can agree with me that the nudity get mellowed down more as the story progressed but I cant promise the violence lolz I personally love it because it shows me right at the start how gruesome an anime can get or how far they are willing to go. The more gruesome an anime is the harder it is the predict the ending and how the story will flow since they arent trying to limit themselves to anything. I think that the best thing about gruesome anime since you never know what going to happen :D EDIT: I also decided to put K-on on hold as an emergency anti emo removal. Since some of you are saying that it can help cheer ya up. I can definitely see that happening. Therefore I am off to start Ouran high or Seitokai Yakuindomo!
