Well I finished the manga, and I gotta say it was below average overall. It had some good and cool moments but not nearly enough to redeem it. I also didn't like what the did to Yomi in the last arc ;/. Reviving in such a retarded way -.-;
Also, any word on the last 5 chapters of Usagi Drop? I'd like to finish it.
I read the manga a while back after watching Ga Rei Zero, and ugh. The manga is just super, super generic. Also, they practically ruined the dramatic ending of Ga Rei Zero since Yomi just revives in the manga (yeah yeah, the manga was written first, but it still feels like a horrible plot element). The only reason I finished the manga was to get closure for Ga Rei Zero, and even then, I feel like it was a waste of my time. You could really tell that the ending was rushed.
Whoa, my thoughts exactly. The ending was too obviously rushed, and the manga as a whole was sort of meh. It did start out with a nice premise, but I feel that it sort of got ruined...
The beginning of the manga did not impress me at all. I mean, it starts off with an accidental kiss. -_- The atmosphere of the manga in general was pretty horrible, especially after viewing Ga Rei Zero.
Yeah, the premise was good, and Ga Rei Zero showed us just how good it could be. The manga, on the other hand, waffled around for a long time before doing anything remotely interesting with it. In my opinion, the content of the manga did improve around the middle, but then the rushed ending kinda spoiled everything. The entire last arc could've been cut out with no harm done to the rest of the story.
You really must have the same taste as I do, because I stopped reading that after 20 or 30 or so chapters....in fact I'm sort of a semi-jack-of-all-trades in that I've read or heard of most mangas, but am not as accomplished as you guys. That being said, I trust your judgment, and upon reflection (this wasn't too long ago but I don't recall that well because I didn't read much of it), it really was pretty wishy-washy.
Call it rose-colored-glasses-esque reflection, but do most of you guys think that manga as a whole has sort of died down recently--i.e. that the "golden age", so to speak, has passed and all we're left with is generic and/or recycled and/or boring stuff? I have friends who read/watch more than I do, though I know enough to understand easily the gist of what you guys are discussing. They're conviced you guys are crazy/perverse though heh.
Anyway we've been sort of bemoaning the lack of freshness and creativity and whatnot lately...and I'm wondering about your guys' opinions on that.
It's really difficult to make sweeping generalizations like that though. Yes, it seems like more older manga which are recommended in general, but the reason they are recommended is because they are good. It's entirely possible that there was just as much shit back then as there is now. Besides, its not like aren't any awesome new series. For instance, Shinigami-sama ni Saigo no Onegai Wo is relatively recent (2009?) and I can confidently say that its one of my favorites.

Hmmm right, right. Also it might be because the "greats" are usually separated by a few years or so, etc., and it's probably my lack of perspective; there weren't a ton of amazing mangas coming out one after the other or anything like that, for sure. A lot of the longer series are sort of becoming a bit silly though, imho

Can you write a tsundere trap guide?
What about a tsundere harem trap guide?
Clearly it should be a tsundere trap loli harem guide.
We gotta add Yuri Mechas in there too somehow.
Nanoha is the only 'Yuri Mecha' show I can think of. Unless you count Symmetrical Docking as yuri.
wait wat. there actually was yuri mecha? i don't... i don't even... why is that... erm.. wat?
are you thinking actual "yuri mecha" because Nanoha just has yuri and "mecha," but it's not yuri mecha. unless you want to classify magical girls as being part mecha, then yeah, it's yuri mecha.
Don't fool yourself, Nanoha is a Mecha show cleverly disguised as a magical girl show.
Edit: Additionally, every single production of Nanoha since its creation has made it more and more obvious.

Well you're the mecha expert, so I'll take your word for it. But yeah, Nanoha Vivid and Force have lost all traces of being a magical girl series.

The closest Nanoha series was to a mahou shoujo series was when it is still just Triangle Hearts 3. Every anime has made it simply Mecha, but with 'mahou shoujo' instead of mechs.

It is an Ecchi Manga about a photographer and the girls he takes pictures of, the story can be neglected but the art is worthwhile, and i figured since the latest chapter (24) features a Loli with S&M interest it belongs here xD
apart from that, HOLY CHECK what is wrong with the author of Gunslinger Girl (the Manga) you are not supposed to do that with your main characters Oo

I thought Triangle Hearts was more of a martial arts/guns kind of thing than it was magical girls?
Nanoha posing as one of the most underrated and overpowered mechs of all time

3 and the nanoha gaiden placed more focus on magic, also that's kind of my point
