? Aren't they already doing that? I mean sure fine, if they have more episodes to make up for this stuff I'll be less peeved, but srsly. It's really disappointing to wait what, 2 years, just to see the same episode like 4 times.
If they make up for the episode numbers lost then you have no reason to be annoyed at all, less peeved isn't enough. You can complain about a lack of content, but as we see with endless eight, they are only repeating the happenings of the episode. Other factors like voice acting and animation suggest that they are inserting new things instead of reusing the old, the kind of thing one would do if the only goal is to skimp on work. So really the only point you can complain about the series itself would be looking back at the conclusion of this season and evaluate it as a whole. You can certainly complain about how they implemented Endless Eight now, but I don't feel like it gives us any indication on the value of the whole affair.
What? I can be as annoyed as I want about endless eight. I'll still be annoyed at it (less so) even if they make up episodes. I don't really understand your point, especially when you tell me I have no reason to be annoyed if they did make up the episodes (new episodes won't suddenly make Endless Eight better). I don't want to see the same thing over and over again (no I don't give a crap that they're redrawing/animating/w.e). Endless Eight alone isn't Haruhi, so if you think I'm complaining about Haruhi then it's not that. I'm complaining about Endless Eight + Kyoani being trolls.
Except I specified that I was talking about the season and consequently the Haruhi series, the tones in this thread isn't that Endless Eight was stupid, it is that KyoAni has fucked up the series completely.
Though I suppose that puts our complaints to be about different things rather.

If not, then all the complaints are really invalid, they aren't cheating with recycled animations or anything. They just made a really bad decision, probably decided that if they got away with airing order from season 1 they can get away with anything.
Patience, patience.
I think it's worse that every episode is fully and thoroughly produced. That means they think this is a good idea...
Well I can see its point...they tried a bit too hard here :p Plan backfiring on a rather epic scale, in a bad way.
they are fucking up the series completely. If I ever reccomend the series to someone in the future I'll have to be like "Ignore the 8 episodes of total shit in season 2." Its ridculous to think they've got some magical episode 9 or 10 or whatever thats going to make me go oh this season is suddenly good again!
Any way you look at it endless 8 as they did it was one of the most retarded things I've seen a popular anime do and its hurt not only the entire kyoani reputation, but the series as a whole.

But how about some good anime movies? I just realized that some of the best anime I've ever seen were all movies, even though I haven't seen many of them.
I've seen Akira, the Patlabor movies, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, of course the Ghibli movies and shit, and I just saw The Sky Crawlers. I'm DL'ing the original GitS movies (and 2.0).
I haven't seen that many either but namedropping some obvious ones that isn't Ghibli.

I don't remember any that really jump out that aren't those titles Except The End of Evangelion, but you've probably seen that too. Other titles... Grave of the Fireflies and Origin: Spirits of the Past. For other cyberpunks, you need to watch Spriggan and Metropolis.

I watched and enjoyed most of what you mentioned (including GiTS 1 and 2). I would recommend Appleseed and Appleseed 2004 (? - I think it was 2004). The latter was produced later but you should watch it first if you want to watch them in timeline order (not particularly important imo).

I won't say that Disappearance will make you think that Endless Eight was good, I've said myself that it has really gone too far. Was the repetition retarded? Eh, arguable, the very presence of the Disappearance plotline gives a reason to it. Was doing it 8 times retarded? Yes, but they've gotten away with a pretty screwed up airing order in the past, they might have decided that, the hype and the cultism about Haruhi means they can get away with this too. They were wrong, but the mentality isn't that flawed. Like I said, we can look upon this affair much more easily after the season is over, perhaps making arguments like "This repetition caused them to drop content that should have been there" and such. But looking at it without knowing what the future holds and claiming doom is fairly pointless.
Though we've all had our share of moments when we exclaim that MBS will ruin SC2, I suppose this is only natural.
Someone mentioned Nadesico, that was a really good anime in its own way...if we define the anime to mean Ruri and her constant baka baka and the plethora of content they never showed in theatrical or animated release. The parody will be difficult to spot though, in the context of animes from that time it is much more apparent. From recent years, dunno, first time I watched it I never quite felt the parody as much as I did the pain of watching a show held together by one character :p
Yeah, I liked it, but only after thinking about each episode.
Also, I have a Haruhi question, and I apologize if it was discussed before. As someone new to the series, I've watched the first few episodes in Haruhi order, but want to know if that's the best idea. Would it be better to watch it in Kyon order the first time? What about the 2009 episodes?
If what you know isn't from reading (or in other words, you don't know what is going to happen), then that has no particular bearing :p
For season one, I recommend viewing from the broadcasting order, it was done that way as to break up the monotony that would've resulted from airing it in chronological order. With season 2 (or 1+new), I'd suggest following the broadcasting order again, largely because the issue from season one should be more or less solved with the increased content.
About Nadesico, yeah, if you think carefully about all the stuff that were added in you'd fine that it is really a reflection of the kind of things we see up to that point. If we give it the benefit of the doubt (and from reading the light novels, I can't help but feel that's looking at the situation too optimistically), it becomes quite a good parody. One of rather different style from the stuff we see nowadays and with completely different jokes, but parody nonetheless. Without that though, it has little merit on its own except for Ruri. Somehow she became the most fleshed out character of them all, go figure. The way they approached the movie and the game also suggest against the parody idea, though it can't really be denied that's possibly one of the goals.
If nothing else though, baka baka is immortalized.
Endless Eight is just a chapter in Haruhi that is the same fucking episode replayed 8 times. It's slightly different each time, but still contains for the most part the exact same fucking content.
So basically, just imagine watching something 8 times from different angles and a slightly different voice track.
i didnt bother going through 103 pages to see if it was already posted but has anyone seen "sword of the stranger" ? its a full length anime film. has some crazy animations in the action scenes

Is the movie itself any good?
i say its really good. i have seen it on DVD. liked it a lot
Hahaha at the Lucky Star clip. I watched the series in its English dub and it was my favourite anime just behind Haruhi Season 1. I just couldn't get used to the Japanese voices that clip though.... The English voices just sounds more natural to me. Oh well, I guess I have to get used to them for the Lucky Star OVA since Bandai isn't dubbing it...
