And yeah. Garp totally let Luffy take him out. It was quite clearly implied that Garp stopped his punch despite having the speed to hit Luffy first.

Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but I guess the story demands more tragedy as it's spiraling towards the climax. One Piece has always had dark themes, it's just hidden by good humor, great/fun characters and a number of other elements. I mean the starting of the series had someone losing an arm, Zoro being starved and on the execution block, Nami being a slave to a ruthless pirate and her village under oppression. There's slavery, torture, corruption and a ton of other more serious themes in One Piece, but it's kept in the background for the most part. I mean one of the most emotional and best scenes in the series (in my opinion) is when Nami just gives into her hopeless situation and grief when the her village decides to fight back against Arlong and stabs her tattoo continually until Luffy stops her. I don't see how the series has gotten darker or more serious than that.

Agaiin a hero from the old era, since he is even older than garp and sengoku i guess it isnt too farfetched that luffy will beat him, i mean this guy is in his 70s Pretty interested in the pirate that cut his arm, got sent to impel down, freed by blackbear and then "promoted" to shichibukai during the timeskip, as well. Should be a fairly interesting guy and hopefully he will make an appearance in the manga

Franky so badass Pretty sure his robot will get upgrades along the way but let's slow down abit because we just came back from a 2year timeskip. Major powerups will not happen any time soon.

Does that mean he ate his other leg or he swim back down to find that broken leg instead of fish for some good eating? If I'm not mistaken, he ate it because when the two were stranded, he gave Sanji all his food so he would have enough food to survive. So without food of his own, he had to eat his own leg to survive. I don't recall him having to cut off his leg to free himself.

The anime made it a lot less dark. In the manga, he was able to save Sanji with both legs still attached and healthy. He realized very quickly that he'd need the sustenance and chopped off and ate his own leg, choosing to destroy his claim to fame and end his time as a pirate to save Sanji. It wasn't just some accident that happened underwater like in the anime.

The anime has learned to trust Oda more now and it's been pretty true to the manga (except fillers) for a long time, but it can still differ and that's why we always trust the manga as the true source, not the anime.
