too bad oda had to brain fart and have shanks' arm chopped off by what is now considered to be less than fodder. also the absolute massacre of kidd makes me question how shanks gets a scar from pre timeskip blackbeard.

To be fair it was more than 20 years ago and Oda had no idea what manga he was even writing. Originally he actually envisioned Luffy fighting the four emperors as soon as he got to the grand line and having the story end much sooner, however, he decided to add the shichibukai and the supernovas and the whole manga just ballooned at that point. That said... there is always the possibility for that event to be recontextualized. We never actually saw what happened to Shank's arm. Maybe Shanks actually lost it to something or someone else. Who knows? Oda has already done this with Bart witnessing Luffy's execution. I personally wouldn't like a plot twist like that but never put that past a mangaka to rewrite old content to create revelations outta nowhere.

Blackbeard fleet ship on Egghead also is exciting, could go in lots of directions whether it's Aokiji or some other captain. All in all, what a great chapter!

Also, does anyone else think Prince looks like Doflamingo/Rosinante? Maybe they're related?

Crunchyroll crashes all the time. CR often forgets what episode you are on so you have to scroll through the whole season too pick up where you left off.

It's so surreal seeing old characters from 500+ chapters ago using brand new powerups like Conqueror attacks. Whitebeard should have waited until chapter 1000 to attack Marineford. He could have destroyed the entire island with a single sneeze. Also, does anyone else think Prince looks like Doflamingo/Rosinante? Maybe they're related? Don't really see it that way, Marineford was pretty messed up and WB wasn't trying to KO the place and so he was holding back but the island was pretty demolished still. Garp seems to be going with a shock and awe approach by hitting them big in a localized area. Very different scenarios.

Plus, uhh, Garp was a 1-1 match with Rodger (and by transitive property Whitebeard) while they were in their primes. We saw like 50% (at best) Whitebeard at Marineford. Garp seems to have aged much better, without the tubes and the like. Oda consistently has said he likes to portray old guys as strong.

And yeah obviously the powerups have developed and been fleshed out a lot since then, with OP going more of a fighting manga route starting with Marineford. He couldn’t use his conquerors per the story but he was at least able to use some armament to punch sakazuki. The sickness at least gives a reason for why someone like squard is able to stab him but I just stay in the camp that it’s plot driven more than anything. Marineford prob looks completely different if Oda rewrites it with the powers known to the story now

Law just established that it can counter devil fruit diseases so I think it might be possible. Blackbeard is the offscreen bonjwa. He looks like a scrub on panel but offscreen he’s godlike
