I was more under the impression that Law's room allowed him to pull off the illusion

They didn't even notice that a room was active so they'd obviously not expect Law to be able to do anything

1. DD is cocky as hell, he thinks himself invincible 2. I don't think Observation Haki is something passive. If you don't have it activated (which in this case he surely wouldnt have, again point 1) you dont notice shit

I think it is passive. Remember when Luffy, Zoro and Sanji were in the auction room, on fishman island, they all felt the same thing. I don't see why they'd have it activated at that precise moment.

Seems like the best option yes.

On the other hand, DD might have just considered the sudden switch to actually be Law's death, which is why he was so sure he had died.

Yeah Doflamingo has so many abilities pulled out of thin air, it has almost reached Bleach levels of absurdity. Might as well restart One Piece with Doflamingo as the protagonist with the interesting backstory, setting out into the unknown world collecting nakama along the way.

This is not really a Bleach level ass-pull.
Doflamingo reconstructed his internal organs the same way he made a full and complete clone of himself.
|
Not really, all of his abilities are string based. Its all about how hard a user trains his fruit power. I'd expect to see alot more elaborate abilities in the future of OP.

This is a good thing you know. If anything, I've loved how the Doflamingo crew was portrayed this entire time. They've got lots of backstory, they're a unique crew, almost a family, and not entirely black and white. They're special and that's a good thing. Richness of characters is great. Luffy's fruit is very elaborate as well (think of how gears 2nd and 3rd work). I LOVE that other characters are given elaborate abilities and backstory, etc. as well.

I think one of the biggest things that Law said during the chapter is that Doflamingo doesn't actually treat his family like a family; the crew members are there because they're useful

They're all ready to put their life on the line for him though so there's gotta be something about it that makes them feel like they're a family

and his observation haki seems to be quite lacking, he got kicked by sanji which he shouldnt, he is rather easy to surprise. might be his weakpoint.
Law's "sacrifice" (he still isnt dead anyway, he just lost his arm - maybe franky can fix this issue^^) wasnt useless at all. DD just keeps his oragans alive with strings, he really is injured. I doubt Luffy is on DD's level when both are fully fresh (yet).

his abilities are pulled of strings. it makes total sense. unlike bleach / naruto shit which comes out of nowhere every time

Calling it now, the attack Law used on Doflamingo just now will be what eventually defeats Doflamingo in his fight with Luffy. Doflamingo himself said his ability wasn't actually regeneration or healing, and pretty much just did emergency first aid on his organs, stitching them together. So the wound is still there. It hasn't healed. So whats going to happen, is Luffy and Doflamingo will throw down, and eventually at the climax of the fight, when it seems like Luffy is going to lose, the strain of the battle will cause Doflamingo's wounds to open up, defeating him.
+ Show Spoiler +Thus proving Zoro>Doflamingo
