It's one thing to have a dark side and tremendous power under a calm/nice exterior, but that seems a bit extreme.

So her Shikai is a giant healing manta ray. I'm curious how it's going to be transformed into a weapon of mass destruction.

Preeeeettty much.
It's like Kubo took Unohona. Threw out her character. Made a new character with the name "Unohona" and ignored any issues with plot, consistency or development doing such a thing would have.
This chapter requires headache tablets on standby if you have any attachment to "lore" "characters" "backgrounds" or "story".

I like the idea that she used to be badass and stuff. But did he really need to give her evil shading and evil hair-do to make it clear to us? Its just so cliche.

I LOLed so hard.
To the people who are complaining about Unohana's character being ruined: Have you not seen Dexter? The psychos are always the ones who disguise themselves with a completely different exterior. All the new developments are rather consistent in my op.

Top one is offense. We've known Unohana was a fierce fighter for ages.

Oh god lol we're so going to hell for that one...Bleach has got me interested again with the past few chapters. I hope this battle between Kenpachi and Unohana is revealed to be some kind of training for Kenpachi to finally unleash his Bankai. And correct me if i'm wrong but isn't Aizen kept in the lowest level of the prison?

Exactly what i thought.
Kubo went a bit overboard with Unohana being the worst criminal during the first generation Captain and being the one to master all swordstyle?
Her shikai is a mass healing sting-ray.
Now i wonder what will her bankai look like?

well if u think about it, during all of the arcs from start to finish unhohana was not touched. even aizen didnt raise his sword to her. so ya, not to unbelievable.
zaraki on the other hand got his ass kicked by ichigo. his feelings towards ichigo and unohana. but zaraki takes damage all the time just for the hell of it and it seems unohana avoids damage at all cost. seems about right since she mastered the "art of killing"
as far as criminals go, it was already stated by bach that the original gotei 13 were ALL criminals/thugs, including CC. they only mellowed out when peace came to SS.
the other captains always feared her and it was hinted that her and CC were very close. ud have to ask urself at somepoint why did the captains treat her as s omeone to be feared when she seemed to be a very nice person that wouldnt harm a fly? they never treated her as such, always afraid as if she would snap there necks in an instant. remember when ichigo and unohana was traveling to fake SS together and unohana forced ichigo to let her lead the way? she used fear to do so, not kindness.

i think he actually admires her. which is why he named that pink haired girl yachiru. i doubt he would have named his extremely close lieutenant(someone he is protective of) after someone he hates.
that being said i always did like the more gentle unohana because im super into those types of anime chicks. now she is a female version of kenpachi. not only that but its hinted that she will be killed off. zzzzzzz....

noone touched Unohana becuase she jsut rode the sidelines jsut healing like some budha
if Byakuya can survive all the shit he went through and get such a touching final moments and he dies and then come back then oones gonna die dont kid yourselves

This chapter was...interesting. Basically what Myles said lol. Whatever it takes to advance the plot randomly!

This has to be the hundredth time someones pulled the 'only one can live' line out on us .. don't buy it. Also agree, its cool to shed some more light on Unohana, but lets not lose sight of her 'fake' personality? How about an explanation for how she covered it all up and changed before we dive into things?

she gets sent to Hueco mundo and never interferes with anyone strong and doesnt get back to SS until after Aizen all-killed everyone and does nothing
then when the quincys apear she sits in ehre little base and watchs stuff happen
if we assume shes a berserker who gets her switch flipped by entering battle since shes done everything to avoid battle her switch wouldnt be flipped
there has to be some HUGE reason that makes her so loyal to CC shes willing to watch him die rather than ignore a irect order
