This could be a stretch, but maybe the key is the CC himself, so when he was killed (I'm assuming it was permanent and real), it opened the gateway to the Palace, which might explain why the Zero Squad didn't interfere until after the battle.

Well, okay. I'll try to explain properly.
There's this guy named Kaien Shiba. He was the brother of Ganju and Kuukaku, who you'll probably remember from the Soul Society arc. He was the lieutenant of Ukitake, and it's implied Rukia was in love with him.
Now, he died a while before Bleach starts, so we've only seen him in flashbacks. There have, however, been several characters in the story remarking on how Ichigo looks very similar to Kaien. Ukitake and Byakuya have both said to, and Rukia is hinted to agree. Interestingly, neither Ganju nor Kuukaku ever comments on this, even though they were siblings.
Because of this people have been speculating for years (oldest thread I found was from 2007) that Ichigo might actually be a part of the Shiba clan, due to Ichigo looking like Kaien, Isshin (his dad) sharing some similarity to Ganju, and Karin (his sister) looking a bit like Kuukaku. Would also explain why Kuukaku and Ganju didn't comment on his looks; they might have already known he was a Shiba from the start.
Now, there has never been an official confirmation of this, and a few chapters ago it started looking like Ichigo is probably part quincy, something that has (hindsight being 20/20) been hinted at since like chapter 3.
Now, about the wikipedia link: "The Hachisuka clan (蜂須賀氏 Hachisuka-shi?) are descendants of Emperor Seiwa (850-880) and are a branch of the Ashikaga clan and the Shiba clan (Seiwa Genji)."
Now, notice the family crest? You know what has been Ichigo's "mark" since Soul Society arc? Also, as if that wasn't enough, the article mentions a Shiba Masaaki. Guess who else is named Masaki?
Not to mention, in this chapter Kuukaku shows up after being gone for ~350 chapters and talks about how "Uncle" will be sad that they let Ichigo go to the Spirit King. We've never heard about an uncle before, but given this, it probably refers to Isshin.
So basically, it's mindfuck because we've had a major hint to a ton of stuff that people have wondered about for AGES, publicly available since forever, just that nobody (or at least very few people) caught it.
Oh, and since the Shiba clan used to be one of the Four Great Noble Houses this would also explain Ichigo's insane (and previously unexplainable) "power supply" that he's had since the start of the series, which is another thing people have been calling Kubo out on since forever.
Man, that turned out insanely long lol :D

Also made me remember how much I hated that flashback with the evil kaien and stuff :D that was dreadful.
Compelling post it was a pleasure to read, thanks.

Uhm, zz_ if you have any more insights to share, please do.

My pleasure :D I'm by no means an expert, I just piece together stuff I read from different places and try to make sense of it. And I'm a sucker for these kinds of small details and foreshadowing stuff way in advance.
As for something more, a minor example would be that, as I mentioned, Ichigo is (sorta-maybe-perhaps) turning out to have quincy blood (presumably from this mother's side, since his dad is a shinigami), based on a few lines from a certain character, Well, the quincy symbol is a cross. And guess what you can find on Ichigo's bed, in some of the early episodes of the anime, from back in like 2005?
http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_ltm63qVIdp1r105d2o1_1280.jpg
This might have not even been intended as foreshadowing, but it's fun to speculate Iirc you can also see this on his bed at some point in the manga, but I don't remember where.
If you're more interested I'd suggest looking through some stuff on this page, which hosts a bunch of pictures with (admittedly somewhat poorly explained) theories. Some stuff is just random, but some of it is really interesting.
Anyway, glad you found my explanation entertaining
edited cause I don't remember how to make images fit the post D:

holy shit so much enlightenment in those pictures. especially the picture where Aizen tells Ichigo to "look" at his sword as it crumbles.
So, much, troll, potential.
AND I DOUBT IT WILL BE WASTED

Well, uh... I'm, eh... Fuck... Nope, I can't think of anything to say. Apart from that we might've been counter-counter-trolled all along.
But he better have had a good reason to offscreen Kenpachi.
EDIT: Also, here! http://bleach.bugs3.com/gallery/Theories/1295033416328.jpg Check bottom left. CC more or less confirmed to be alive now :D EDIT 2: Mother of conspiracies, I think I got some respect back for Kubo.
|
Would be great if Isshin + ishida dad + aizen + urahara + bach were all part of the same crew against CC + soul king, using ichigo to gain access to the last :p
Anyway it seems the next power evolution has been announced with his new and different zanpakuto that will be forged Oo

as interesting as taht stuff zz_ found is it doesnt really dig kubo out of the hole since hes said from the start he doesnt plan ahead (like killing aizen then figuring out who killed aizen) and he still adds a ton of characters then never gives them enough screentime and still does shit like letting the CC get one shotted
if he really had all that shiba stuff planned out would have been nice if he had used that effort to plan out the important stuff
|
Im not seeing any similarities between the shiba clan and the manji.
|
|
Also no idea why the fullbringers are even around or how.
Tsukishima was sorta ambiguous but Giriko was split in half from the skull on down. So I guess they all died?
Didnt we establish that the dead dont get to carry memories over to Soul Society? None of the shinigamis remember what they were like when they were alive afterall.

Hey, I'm not saying Kubo doesn't just make up shit as he goes along, but I'm pretty sure that the "I don't plan anything" can also be discarded as bullshit. Or if he doesn't, then he's EXTREMELY good at tying in the new shit he makes up with the old shit he already wrote.

It's their clan symbol, specifically called the Hachisuka Manji.

From Kuukaku saying that she "found them in SS", I think it's fair to assume they all died, yes. The questions that we haven't been answered are:
1q: We've been previously told that it's nearly impossible to find a specific person in SS, since there are so many people there (everyone who has ever died and haven't reincarnated into the real world). 1a: This can be explained in a few ways, off the top of my head: 1a1: Kuukaku might have a way of finding specifics persons. She is quite special, after all. 1a2: All of the fullbringers would have extremely high spiritual power, almost captain level, compared to most inhabitants of SS that has no power at all, which also could explain how one would find them, and perhaps also the next question:
2q: They shouldn't have their memories, like you said. 2a: At this point we're not even sure if they DO have their memories, since we haven't heard them say a word. Maybe this is related to the last question (high spiritual power). Or maybe this has something to do with Tsukishima's ability, which changes the past and your memories of it. Which handily enough leads us to the next question.
3q: We've never had a case of someone dying and retaining the powers they had in the real world. Quincies have died before, and there has never been an instance of someone in SS showing up with quincy powers. Now this can also be explained (since quincy powers basically drain/eliminate soul particles, perhaps they're impossible to use when you're dead, or you would destroy yourself?), but it still leaves us with no precedent.
Either way, the fullbringer's being back raises questions, some of which (knowing Kubo) we'll probably never have answers to. Then again, only time will tell.

Maybe.
Where is the shiba crest shown again? All I see is the mark on Kuukaku and ganju that looks like so:
http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Kūkaku_Shiba?file=E24_Kukaku_Ganju_demostrate_orb.jpg
Also people have always been against people reappearing in Soul Society after death because then..... I mean Masaki would have been resurrected the same way. And Ichigo seems to have know interest in randomly pursuing her even though that would be the thing he should want to do the most on his spare time.

It's not the Shiba crest in the show, it's the crest of the clan from the wikipedia article, which was a branch house of the (real-life) Shiba clan So basically it ties together the Shiba clan with Ichigo. About his mom, yes, I agree, but like I said we have previously been told that it's basically impossible to find a specific person in SS, which is pretty much the main reason why I'm surprised the fullbringer's showed up in the first place.

Wait, wait, wait: If this is true, does that imply that Isshin was the head of the Shiba clan and was banished and turned into a human when the Shiba clan fell? Apparently Soul Society can do that, as that was to be Urahara's punishment by Central 46 for messing around with Hollowfication.

*snip But, people who die DO have their memories intact: the kid (Shibata) that was in the parakeet meets with Chad and they talk about stuff from Earth not too long after the group arrives in Soul Society. Maybe the majority of Shinigami come from children who died during/before childbirth or something similar? That would explain why they don't remember anything from Earth and maybe while there can be births in Soul Society...or nope, Kubo is just a troll.
