People used to refer to the big three shounen manga as One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach. However, it's been a long time since Bleach has been in the top three in terms of manga sales. I can't remember where, but I saw sales reports of recent manga sales by volume. One Piece is still solidly in the lead, followed by manga from other genres. Naruto was in the middle of the top 10. Bleach was near the bottom or even not in top 10 at all. The anime getting cancelled is another sign that Bleach's popularity is no longer in the top 3. Whatttt? Anime cancelled? Hahahaha awesome. Anyway, which mangas are the most popular in WSJ? Bakuman is gone (could have placed really high), the only 2 with long-running series are KHR and Beelzebub.
I find Freezing to be moving along at a good enough pace (chapter release) and to be good enough to deserve a relatively high spot. Good action, likable characters, some pretty cool storylines. The art style (a lot of tits and shit) put over the heavy violence is a bit hard to get used to, but it's definitely not bad enough to stop reading. I haven't read Beelzebub, but KHR definitely releases enough and is better than a lot of other mangas. Especially the newest arc, I can see it moving out of obscurity.
Maybe we could have a poll or something in a new thread to decide and talk about the top mangas (not including the big three).

Read 30-ish chapters, gave up because I found the storyline boring and disjointed. Different opinion haha. If you want tits and shit, there's better sources. KHR has a storyline that is broken beyond redemption. The protagonist is a one-trick pony just like Ichigo. At least the artwork is good. Mangaka is a female, has a lot of detail to the art, also explains why Tsuna's cambio forma is a fucking pussy (literally). Beelzebub is awesome, my current favorite series. Good action, awesome humor. You should read it. How could I forget Gintama..... Most awesome series hands down. BTW Freezing is released monthly, while the others are released weekly in WSJ.

I've been seeing Freezing release at really random periods, ranging from a few days to weeks apart, but usually releasing multiple chapters at once. I'll definitely give Beelzebub a try though. Thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks for the recommendation. That's because Freezing didn't get scanlated until long after it got noticed. There's still a backlog of chapters, so release frequency is simply determined by the scanlators. The other series get released on a weekly basis, shortly after publication.

I think part of what made Bleach awesome at the beginning was how unfamiliar we were with the characters, so each time a Captain appeared we'd be like holy shit this is some scary shit. Who remembers how fucking awesome it was when Kenpachi first came out of nowhere and the screen fuzzing and Ichigo suddenly being all like FUUUUUUCK (like the first time you ever played Diablo 2 and Mephisto shoots that ice ball at you that takes away 90% of your health). Now we've seen all the Bankais and all the new enemies basically look like people coming out on a gay fashion parista we no longer feel any excitement or nervousness because we know the formula is just going to be the same - main character acting bravado, some super move which is supposed to hurt them but it doesn't, main character does some attack which the bad guy is shocked about, bad guy then saying: "Hurr hurr hurr, is that all you've got?" Bad guy transforming into some new form with some new special attack that they will happily describe to the main character, main character saying: "I will not let you harm my friends," rehash, rehash etc.

"link me to Ichigo Kurosaki." "I will take responsibility."
Looks like Ichigo is going to have to bail their asses out as per usual.

wow bleach is still so fucking bad.

The only purpose everyone but Ichigo serves is getting their ass kicked to show how powerful enemies are before Ichigo comes and saves the day.

Captains are total one trick ponies.
They have forgotten how to hit the enemy with their swords.
|
also forgot how to cast spells apparently
|
Yeah, and that one powerup called shit-something that no one has used in ages.
|
Ichigo has to fight all the Quincy captains by himself, calling it now! JK he'll probably get help from his crew: Ori/Chad/Uyruu/Yorochi/Kitsuke who probably have sick powerups atm
|
The whole series is just Ichigo failing and winning and becoming really OP and failing to even more OP shit and becoming even more OP
Everything else is an elaborate way to prove the point. Watch soul society get destroyed and ichigo becomes god and restores it because he is a mortal shinigami or some shit.
|
So now that they can't use bankai doesn't kenpachi become the most op character?

Just catching up now on all of my mangas after about seven or eight months of hiatus from manga and anime and...what...lol. Bleach seems to have no concept of power levels. Kubo just instantly switches power differences as he wishes to advance the plot, their relative strength makes absolutely no sense at all =__=
But lolol kenpachi :D
|
Yes, they better inform Zaraki to not use his bankai. I have to admit that I'm just reading this hoping to see Zaraki sticking his naked sword into some quincy's eye.
Also, I'd like to see some Vizards pulling masks and going freaking melee against them... If this end up being Ichigo vs the whole Quincy relevant characters (you know, the soon to be fodder), will be disapointing... well... not really, I can see that coming.

This manga needs moar Kenpachi now. A lot more.
|
Ichigo is going to try and pull a Fairy Tail and 1vX the entire enemy army and completely trash them. Calling it now.
