Phil Ochs: There But For Fortune
![[image loading]](http://www.cmmug.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Phil-Ochs-There-But-For-Fortune-1.jpg)
Extremely engrossing documentary that just gets you more and more invested as it goes along the tragic life of IMO one of the greatest American heroes. And it really draws out the point of the late 60's as a turning point in the course of America, I was really struck by how much you can see the genesis of our current national state, the way-paving, in the assassinations, Chicago, Nixon, etc..
Also check out his music, it's one of a kind. My introduction playlist: http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/playlist/Phil Ochs/50099771?src=5

I got to watch it after I read a review somewhere stating that the Vengeance trilogy by Chan-wook Park is like Toy Story compared to this one. And I have to agree. The acting is superb. The movie is tense and entertaining from the very first seconds to the very last. One of the best movies I have seen in my life. Masterpiece. I think that is the same actor in (The man from no where) he plays the bad guy

I haven't really gotten the movie out of my head since. I remember when it first came out my friends told me it was garbage so I didn't really give it a chance but WOW were they ever wrong. It's a great show, a little bit cheesy at times and it's certainly over the top but it's all in a good way. Revenge movies are just the greatest. If you're like me and didn't give it a chance when it first came out go watch this movie. :D One of the best movies ever made. And you can't call it cheesy if it was intentional Tarantino hasn't really made anything decent since then. Anyways, pretty good alien invasion flick, thought the triffids were pretty interesting. Also, there is a deserted hospital scene at the beginning of it, now I kinda see where 28 Days Later got it from.
Read the book. Infinitely better. Also what's up with you and these old-ass movies? Show nested quote +On March 01 2011 08:58 Sm3agol wrote: Really weird movie for me now. First saw this about ~15 years ago, and I had the hugest crush on Portman. Now, 15 years later....i found she still looks amazingly cute to me....and now I feel like a pedophile, lol. I am pretty open-minded in this regard but Portman was a child, if you are sexually attracted to a 12-year old girl something is just not right.
Oh meh, it's entirely due to me watching it when I was the same age myself, imo. I don't normally like 12 year olds, lol? That's why I said I found it so weird upon rewatching.

I watched "I am number 4" recently got to be one of the worst films I have ever seen

The Karate Kid is on Netflix now.... even on xbox

Never seen a movie like this one before.. The movie is one big conversation on a very interesting topic, keep an open mind watching this.

I've seen Once recently and I liked it. It's nothing new but it has some GREAT songs and it is adorable and natural. I liked that in movie in english I could hear czech (I speak it) and undestood what Marketa(Name of actor, not character) said to her mother and also I understood the quote "Miluju tebe"

Need to thank this thread for recommending this film (although it might have been one that started "unusual films...") for some reason i just didnt choose to watch it for a while, but I'm rlly glad I did. Reminded me slightly of K-PAX in some ways, was a really interesting watch.
And to suggest a film Watch Papillion, it's really quite good. Or, All The Presidents Men.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys.

For your own sake, do NOT watch the sequels. The original is a top-notch theatrical release by Don Bluth, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg. The sequels are kiddie direct-to-video tripe with none of the same talent.
If you haven't already seen them, watch The Fox and the Hound, The Secret of NIMH, All Dogs Go To Heaven, and Cats Don't Dance instead. Coraline, Bolt, and Fantastic Mr. Fox are more recent and also quite excellent G-PG range animated films, although they're not traditionally animated.
Treasure Planet is also pretty excellent, and despite being Disney it's heavily underrated.

Save the Green Planet. South Korean movie that is EXTREMELY entertaining, but really doesn't fit into a single genre. It is hilarious at times, while others will have you somewhat disturbed.

Agreed. Acting from the 2 leads is really great. Russell Crowe is just sweet sweet good.
4/10
Very bad until the end, which was good, but it doesn't make up for the previous 90 minutes.

Amazing movie, from the storyline to the visuals to the soundtrack, every bit of this movie is just spectacular.

![[image loading]](http://karana23.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/3-10-to-yuma.jpg) 3:10 to Yuma - Nice Western movie, reminded me a little bit of Red Dead Redemption in places. Crowe was amazing.
![[image loading]](http://images.wikia.com/zombie/images/e/e4/Shaun-Of-The-Dead-Posters.jpg) Shaun of the Dead - Thought this was a little overrated. It was ok, it had some pretty funny moments, but it really didn't do much to get me interested.
![[image loading]](http://thestarceleb.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/departures_movie_poster.jpg) Departures - A Cellist loses his job so he takes up doing departures, preparation for burial for the dead. Very touching movie.

Trolljegeren aka The Troll Hunter
Interesting, but similar movies have been done over and over again. I'm really tired of this 'young people decide to make a documentary' or 'someone has a hand camera when bad shit happens' movie style.

Exam
Again an interesting movie, but the formula is getting old here which makes it all too predictable. At least they didn't repeat the same mistake as they did in the first installment of Saw - that is taking the action out of the room. And the ending is craptastic.

One of these days I will listen to IMDB. Terrible, trash movie. Gahhh, so stupid.

My IQ dropped a few points from all the stupid.

I just watched Fight Club (had just read the book so far) and i thought it was a great book adaptation. 9/10
Couldnt believe it was also a Fincher movie, the guy that made my all time favourite movie: The Game

![[image loading]](http://images.moviepostershop.com/winters-bone-movie-poster-2010-1020549245.jpg) Winters Bone - Decided to check this out after hearing about it on the Oscars. Incredibly fucking bleak for the most part. Jennifer Lawrence was fuckin great, hard to believe she has no training in acting.
![[image loading]](http://blogs-images.forbes.com/marketshare/files/2010/10/waiting_for_superman3.jpg) Waiting for Superman - Talks about the public school system in the U.S and its faults. Incredibly informing though, and it's depressing when you realize that the vast majority of the kids in the U.S have to put up with this shit.
![[image loading]](http://i.clevver.com/fullphoto/83975/500/950/the-king-of-kong-a-fistful-of-quarters-movie-poster-1.jpg) The King of Kong - Can't say I have ever been interested in Donkey Kong since it was before my time, but if you enjoy old school games, this is an enjoyable trip down memory lane for the most part. Billy Mitchell is such an ass though.
![[image loading]](http://brusimm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/127-Hours-movie-poster-James-Franco-stars.jpg) 127 Hours - One guy and a video camera along with a boulder and the occasional gecko, or ant. Not exactly a stellar cast, but Franco somehow makes it work. One scene in particular made me cringe because it was like you felt his pain in the situation, anyone who has seen it knows what I am talking about.
![[image loading]](http://www.moviepostr.com/img/movie/2724/tae-guk-gi-the-brotherhood-of-war-taegukgi-hwinalrimyeo-2259-poster-large.jpeg) Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War - Korean war movie. Two brothers from vastly diferent circumstances in life get conscripted to fight. This movie was fucking intense, violent, and sad at the same time. Just an amazing movie, everyone should check this out, now. If anyone has netflix go rent this asap.
