Southpaw is a great example of shitty writing that goes nowhere. Gyllenhaal does an amazing job trying to carry it but the script really lets him down. Creed is 93% Rotten Tomatoes whilst Southpaw is at 60, average viewers also prefer Rocky 94-77. Stallone's even got an Oscar nomination and the film made the National Board of Review's top 10 for 2015. Southpaw is better in very few aspects... and being a modern 'fairytale' doesn't make a film bad.

I went with my friend who absolutely loves rocky (im indifferent) and he was fucking PISSED at how bad the movie was. But then again he really dislikes "black culture" and the movie was clearly intended for that audience (the previews were all kevin hart movies/ barber shop/ etc.) But oh well, a lot of movies appeal alludes me. I didn't feel ripped off at all though, creed was the best unintentional comedy ive seen in a while. And yea the fighter is a really good boxing movie.

Even at 45 years old Pam Grier is a goddess. Thanks for bringing Jacky Brown to my attention, for some reason I saw quite a lot of Tarantino's movies but i had never heard of it. Just finished it and it was amazing, Pam Grier is magnetic in it, one of the best female role i've seen recently.

The directing, cinematography and sound direction are the stars of The Revenant and they're just absurdly good. Every single shot can be studied for what it was trying to accomplish. It's not a film for everyone. Some will find it too slow, predictable, surreal or even too intense. But if you like thinking about what goes on behind the camera, I can't think of a better example in recent memory. I thought the acting and action were awesome as well, but they weren't #1.

I agree 100%. I think overall the cinematography was what stood out the most to me. I struggled a bit with the pacing of the movie, because it felt like a lot of it was these really beautiful takes that just took forever. If you go into The Revenant expecting an action movie, I think you'll be sorely disappointed. It's a good movie (not my favorite of the year), but it's not a fast-paced action movie. However, one thing that frustrated me when I was watching it is that some of the audio was out of sync with the actors' speaking. I get that it can be hard to edit that properly, but they put so much effort into the visuals that such a careless blunder seemed really egregious.

It is basically a revenge film with some drug trade elements in the story. + Show Spoiler + Basically like an alternate version of Taken haha I liked Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow but i just didn't buy her character in Sicario. They tried too hard with the rough, unhygienic look... you could see past it right away. Awesome movie nevertheless.

You know what's the most amazing thing with the Revenant? They've done all the shots using only natural light. That's like super hard for a movie. Truly a next-level cinematography.

Just came back from my viewing, I think they actually hit the camera during the last scene lol I love the cinematography so much, some of them are as perfect as it could be imo. the pacing is slow and some audience will start talking and moving around

Utterly predictable, mostly recycling old ideas. Added nerd nostalgia porn. Kinda funny at times though, and effects were done well. The Martian I guess I'm bad at suspending my sense of disbelief. Leave all critical thinking behind and hope that is enough. Maybe it's just that the editing makes it look dumber than it is. But overall a good example of the kind of situation where vlogs and selfies are acceptable -> when you are stranded and dying on Mars.

Like a Cormac McCarthy book put to film. Beautiful cinematography, tense and brutal action, good to okay acting, and some interesting themes keep it a worthwhile movie. Felt it could have been shortened a good 20-30 minutes though, and Tom Hardy is still difficult to listen to with his muffled Bane voice. Don't know if this will be the one to give Leo his Oscar, but as a film it's good, probably one of the better in 2015-2016.
