Seriously? Southpaw is better in just about all aspects. Creed is decent, but absolutley nothing special (and its a fairytale...)

...well I guess we disagree. Southpaw is a great example of shitty writing that goes nowhere. Gyllenhaal does an amazing job trying to carry it but the script really lets him down. Creed is 93% Rotten Tomatoes whilst Southpaw is at 60, average viewers also prefer Rocky 94-77. Stallone's even got an Oscar nomination and the film made the National Board of Review's top 10 for 2015. Southpaw is better in very few aspects... and being a modern 'fairytale' doesn't make a film bad.

I agree on the Creed film i thought it was great. The only other boxing film i liked was the Christian Bale The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0964517/ worth a watch if you haven't already.

Yeah I'd forgotten that one but I did like it, Million Dollar Baby and the early Rockies are the only others I really enjoyed. Wasn't a big fan of Raging Bull

The Fighter is my favourite combat sports movie. Creed was ok. Rocky 1 is the best of the Rocky series.

I must have watched a different movie then most people when I saw Creed, I was uncontrollably laughing the entire time at how bad the script was. My headline for the movie would be "Rocky spends more time in a hospital hacking up a lung then teaching boxing" No one else was dying laughing at the part where they start driving quads and motorcycles around the guy near the end?

I went with my friend who absolutely loves rocky (im indifferent) and he was fucking PISSED at how bad the movie was.
But then again he really dislikes "black culture" and the movie was clearly intended for that audience (the previews were all kevin hart movies/ barber shop/ etc.)

But oh well, a lot of movies appeal alludes me. I didn't feel ripped off at all though, creed was the best unintentional comedy ive seen in a while.

And yea the fighter is a really good boxing movie.

Star Wars Episode 7

during their attempt at "suspense" when Han Solo was with his son on that thin platform and he drops the mask... i was thinking...
there is no way this evil guy in the black mask can become a good guy and side with Han Solo.. because there are not enough bad guys to keep the bad guy side going.

i'm not expert om "jedi theory" but that ex-storm trooper guy shouldn't have been able to last 5 seconds in a sword fight with Han Solo's son.. whatever his name is.

i didn't buy the "love connection" between the ex-Storm Trooper guy and the girl with the brown eyes...however, they acted it out well and made the best of a bad set up... kudos to those 2 for turning something garbage into something "ok"

Galaxy Quest remains better than every Star Wars movie ever made.

Thanks for bringing Jacky Brown to my attention, for some reason I saw quite a lot of Tarantino's movies but i had never heard of it.
Just finished it and it was amazing, Pam Grier is magnetic in it, one of the best female role i've seen recently.

The Revenant is going to have everyone talking about Leo and Oscars but really, the acting is secondary (plus I think Tom Hardy was better.)

The directing, cinematography and sound direction are the stars of The Revenant and they're just absurdly good. Every single shot can be studied for what it was trying to accomplish.

It's not a film for everyone. Some will find it too slow, predictable, surreal or even too intense. But if you like thinking about what goes on behind the camera, I can't think of a better example in recent memory. I thought the acting and action were awesome as well, but they weren't #1.

Watched Sicario lately, would recommend it, emily blunt was useless in it but you get Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin they are quite ok in my likable actors list. It is basically a revenge film with some drug trade elements in the story.

I agree 100%.

I think overall the cinematography was what stood out the most to me. I struggled a bit with the pacing of the movie, because it felt like a lot of it was these really beautiful takes that just took forever.

If you go into The Revenant expecting an action movie, I think you'll be sorely disappointed. It's a good movie (not my favorite of the year), but it's not a fast-paced action movie.

However, one thing that frustrated me when I was watching it is that some of the audio was out of sync with the actors' speaking. I get that it can be hard to edit that properly, but they put so much effort into the visuals that such a careless blunder seemed really egregious.

I liked Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow but i just didn't buy her character in Sicario. They tried too hard with the rough, unhygienic look... you could see past it right away. Awesome movie nevertheless.

You know what's the most amazing thing with the Revenant? They've done all the shots using only natural light. That's like super hard for a movie. Truly a next-level cinematography.

Plus he uses things like lens flares (the real kind, not JJ Abrams kind) and breathing into the camera, that you'd normally try to avoid. He finds use for them.

Just came back from my viewing, I think they actually hit the camera during the last scene lol
I love the cinematography so much, some of them are as perfect as it could be imo.
the pacing is slow and some audience will start talking and moving around

The Force Awakens

Utterly predictable, mostly recycling old ideas. Added nerd nostalgia porn. Kinda funny at times though, and effects were done well.

The Martian

I guess I'm bad at suspending my sense of disbelief. Leave all critical thinking behind and hope that is enough. Maybe it's just that the editing makes it look dumber than it is. But overall a good example of the kind of situation where vlogs and selfies are acceptable -> when you are stranded and dying on Mars.

I really liked The Martian except for the lack of human drama. The script really suits Ridley's interests: he's a director who likes to lay out the plot and themes in an almost mechanical fashion, and The Martian is purely about the logistics of saving the protagonist. However, I found it almost absurd that none of the astronauts had meaningful reservations about going back and the only resistance at NASA HQ was the perfectly sensible observation that Watney would probably die anyway, so why risk the lives of others for an infinitesimally small chance of saving him.

The Revenant

Like a Cormac McCarthy book put to film. Beautiful cinematography, tense and brutal action, good to okay acting, and some interesting themes keep it a worthwhile movie. Felt it could have been shortened a good 20-30 minutes though, and Tom Hardy is still difficult to listen to with his muffled Bane voice. Don't know if this will be the one to give Leo his Oscar, but as a film it's good, probably one of the better in 2015-2016.
