Black or White Expected movie about a white grandfather who was subtly racist. Got movie about life and a possible mess that comes from it. The movie was not cliche like I'd expected it to be.
The East I expected this movie to be about how the operative would realize she was working for the wrong side and would turn. + Show Spoiler +She did of course, but she didn't become an anarchist, but rather tried to solve things within the bounds of the law. I think it was saying something about the consequences of revenge and breaking the law. It was nice.

Yeah I've watched a bit of MST3K and also Rifftraxx- very good stuff. I suspect this could be riffable, but it would probably be better in a group setting. I watched it on my own so it wasn't exactly wall to wall laughter due to 'it is so bad it's good.' I mostly found the storytelling baffling, but if you watched in the right mood it might be funny. At least I didn't find it 'so bad it's boring.' Those are the worst sort.
Oh yes, it goes by different names. The Archer and the Sorceress is the one I saw, but as that image shows The Archer: Fugitive of the Empire is another title for the same film.
edit.
Oh, ok my favourite thing in the entire film was in the second! opening credits where they have a montage of barbararian camp life. So they pan from people making fires and such. And then one shot just has a bear fighting barbarians. Then next shot back to regular camp life. It was the best!

Just stumbled upon 'The Imitation Game' after just having read a Turing biography.
Fantastic film, an absolute recommendation. The 'facts' at the end of the film are a bit embellished, but otherwise it's a great representation of the fascinating and tragic life story of Alan Turing.

We red boxxed Saint Vincent last night, I was interested to begin with but the writer director was on the Nerdist podcast in the last couple of weeks and it really augmented the experience. You know where the story is going, it is fairly standard thoroughfare in that respect, but it is very entertaining. I would liken it to Bill Murray as Bukowski with a heart of gold.

The Duff Too predictable. Probably for high schoolers.

Chappie Personally I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected, but it was not too bad. Let's say the biggest flaw is that the director tried to put in too much into the movie.
The first half was quite interesting and had some messages about life, conscious, development of AI etc. The second half basically threw it all out and became an action movie.
Character development was also a little bit unpolished, same problem with district 9 imo. The music score is quite forgettable, which is disappointing.
CG is amazing, it just keeps amazes me. I also loved all the tiny details everywhere.
in short, the movie had a lot of promising moments, especially the early half. The second half isn't bad, it just didn't fit in as one movie.
6.5/10

Just saw The Imitation Game
Im still speechless, one of the best movies ive seen in quite some time... I didnt leave a theater this "shocked" since inception.
If its close to the real Turing or the history, it doesnt matter.
Godlike movie, godlike actor.

Guardians of the Galaxy
Incredibly tacky/cheesy. Special effects were okay, nothing that'll wow the normal viewer over the age of 16. Don't think I'd watch a sequel if they decide to make one.

Divergent series: Insurgent
Quite possibly the biggest waste of money and time. Acting was bad, action choreography was bad, the world is full of cognitive dissonance, sub-par CGI. It's a an abomination frankenstein that takes bits from Hunger Game, Maze Runner and Twilight and shouldn't have been allowed to exist in the first place.

well you really couldve known that from watching the trailer..

I knew about Turin because of his test (we study that in CS). Didn't know the guy helped breaking enigma. Loved the movie, thanks for the recommendation.

V/H/S Viral:
I love found footage movies. I liked V/H/S 1. I tolerated V/H/S 2. I hated this complete and utter garbage. The overarching story was nonsenical boring gibberish that didn't even tie the shorts together. Every short sucked. + Show Spoiler +One of them-the stupid skateboarding one-was actually the worst short film I have ever seen. I mean, holy shit was this bad. And not even so bad it's good bad, just bad.

I'm surprised there is no thread for this here.

Didn't find any thread about TV shows so im gonna post here. I've recently started to watch Malcolm in the middle again. This show is so damn awesome.

Chappie
Boy that was a mess. The script for this one can't decide if it's an action movie, an intelligent film about your upbringing and conscience and A.I.s and stuff or a comedy about badly acted thugs. Chappie himself stroke me as very annoying, probably because of his stupiud high pitched voice, the characters were unbelievable and the whole antagonist plotline was so stupid it deserves special praise for most forced conflict ever.
Focus
was better but forgettable at the same time. Just a mediocre movie about theft and stuff with no real kick whatsoever. Mostly enjoyable. The best part about this one was that for once the imdb rating actually reflected the strength of the movie....

Predestination
Somewhere between Looper and 12 Monkeys. Less plot holes than Looper and much more 'contemporary' than 12 Monkeys (ie it has no sense of humour). The story was interesting, the acting was excellent throughout, but it wasn't an outstanding movie by any means. Better than average. Better than Looper lol. Sarah Snook really is excellent in this.
|
oh i just watched that too
Predestination like Looper, go watch
Guardians of the Galaxy like Firefly, decent, i didn't connect with it (probably coz i've seen that stuff before) but its very solid and high-content which makes it rewatchable
Godzilla 2014 raises to 2/10 literally because i felt sorry for the people who had to work on it. a disgusting waste of human resources
13 Assassins modern samurai blockbuster. entertaining only in a mild way because it lacked something. watch it if you want a super-modern samurai/swords movie
Anime series:
Parasyte like Death Note. gripping and compelling, though with one or 2 (unexpectedly) bad episodes. a must-watch

saw the 3rd Hobbit movie.
Not that good. Some epic battle scenes, but that's basically it.

Cobbler with adam sandler : I find the 5,7 imdb score a little low. I liked the movie and give it a 7,2, maybe because it promotes trades in a society that puts learning trades in a not that positive spotlight most of the time.
