Flew west coast US to EU a few weeks ago and got to watch this! I am a car enthusiast and I have to say this was a great movie! 5/5 Will watch again.
also watched (either on that trip or the original EU to US trip a few weeks earlier)
Elysium 2/5 I might have just REALLY not been in to mood for a movie with strong political undertones... Wolverine NR, I got bored after 15 minutes... Red 2 4/5 The humor clicked with me. Now You See Me 3/5 Not bad at all. Kept me interested about what would happen next.
I know there was more but can't think of them...
Recently watched Warrior 4/5 not a bad MMA movie even though I had to remind myself that of course Hollywood couldn't make the fights as realistic as I would have liked (as an MMA fan).
and re-watched Training Day 3/5 Not as good as I remembered but still a solid movie
(edit: reading previous pages reminded of a few of the other movies) The Exam 2/5 Semi-interesting psychological drama/thriller(?) that was cheapened by the ending Pacific Rim 2/5 Yes, it had giant-mech-robots vs aliens, still 2/5. (Obviously neither of these two movies left much of a mark.)

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit

imdb score: 6.6 as of now my score: 1/10
Unbelievable. Today is Chinese New Year and it is one of the few movies that still have seats. Checked the score from imdb and thought to myself, can't be too horrible, right? At least Keira Knightley is in it.
But God was it awful. Unless you are extremely into cheesy stories (as cheesy as it gets) about counter terrorism in the US or maybe a fan of the book, I totally would not recommend you to watch.
These are the things that if you like, then this movie probably is for you: Russia is the bad guy and they are still stuck in cold war mindset A character blessed by the writer who can out smart and out fight anyone Logic is to be abandoned when required
I don't even know if the movie is supposed to be serious or a comedy at some point. he carried two people (full with military equipment) to safety after the helicopter got hit by a RPG rocket and seemingly falling from extreme height. A few years later, he managed to defeat not one but two trained assassin. He also managed to completely out smart the whole CSI department. he also has a phd in LSE.
These sort of stuff happen throughout the entire movie.
I didn't expect this but holy hell, this movie is the second one that I regretted watching, last one was Twilight (first one). Waste of money and time.
Let's compare these two movies: Twilight has better music, better scene taking and rubbish BS fantasy setting and horrible romance. Jack Ryan has extremely poor camera work, plot progress, and horrible BS stuff happening.

Castaway on the Moon was a gem. I went into it it knowing nothing and was just bored browsing Netflix one day. Very surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
+ Show Spoiler + Lone Survivor - This was alright I guess, had some good action in it. Might just be me getting bored with these formulaic military movies over the years. Either way, the guys story it was based on sounds interesting (it was supposedly way worse than the movie portrayed) so I might check the book out eventually.
+ Show Spoiler + Captain Phillips - This was pretty good. Very tense and kept my attention easily. Didn't really like the last part though, they just spend too much time in that damn lifeboat imo.
+ Show Spoiler + The Wolf of Wall Street - Decided to check out the newest Scorsese movie since there was so much praise for it. This was good, interesting story behind it and DiCaprio was great in it.
+ Show Spoiler + A Legend is Born: Ip Man - Compared to the other 2 Ip man movies I have seen, this would be the worst I think. The few fight scenes it does have are done well but besides that I was pretty bored with it I think. I still have The Final Fight to watch of the Ip man movies so hopefully that will be better.

Thor Dark World Would not recommend. On the weak side even for Thor movies.

Would I like it if I liked the Bourne series?

Its literally one of the worst movies I have ever seen, and its a damn shame that Kenneth Branagh not only acted in it but directed it. The "plot", more like an idea sketched on a napkin by an inbred high school student in between his therapy sessions, is so retarded that I actually felt physical pain. I know spy movies can be dumb but this was just spectacular idiotic. If you saw one of the other Jack Ryan movies, where neo-nazi austrians smuggle a nuclear bomb into America to have America and Russia started World War 3 thus achieving the rise of a Fourth Reich that somehow would mysteriously survive all the nuclear strikes onto Europe, youd think that it was the low point of the Jack Ryan universe and youd be so so wrong because THIS Jack Ryan is at least 10 times dumber.

Saw the Wolf of Wall street tonight.
I have mixed feelings about it. I'd still say it's an "ok" rating for me. Leonardo is great in it, it's interesting since based on a true story (or the book relating the story actually, written by a professional salesman/liar). The duo Leonardo+Scorcese is still there for the charm and Jonah Hill gives another strong supporting role performance. However, I thought it was too long. We get it, people love these story of a nobody raising up to unbelievable heights of money+drugs and then crashing down (Scarface, Blow, 99F are all movie that are hard not to think about when watching the Wolf). But the problem is that by now, I know that story and 3 hours to tell it felt too long for me. My main issue was the first 1h30 of it, or the rise to power part. I was starting to get really fed up after a while of the alternation of Yelling / Naked body / Yelling / Naked body / Yelling / Naked Bodies. There were some really good scenes in this but sadly I felt that in between it was just fillers.
So all in all it was alright and for me is saved due to it's "biographical" (no matter far from the truth it is) element and acting (god I think I can't love DiCaprio more) but it took way too long with not enough diversity and as a result I was far from being blown by it

American Hustle - very fun, fantastic characters (Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence for me were notably outstanding).
Her - Smoothly made but I was expecting it to hit me more or have more surprise or weirdness or something. Didn't leave a lasting impression--especially compared to, like, Being John Malkovich.
Frozen - This is the best animated movie or kids/family movie I've seen in years. Really a fantastic film. Pretty much everything about it is class and not much to find annoying (which is rare for me with this kind of movie).

American Hustle Doesn't seem all that memorable but a good movie. Character development is good. Story is fine.
Story has holes and is weird if analyzed though. Weird movie.

watched a few korean films in the last couple of days.
![[image loading]](http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1Ew9KbLwoIQ/Ua_1tpHAvcI/AAAAAAAAIq8/ZH_UAcF1DJ8/s1600/NEW%2BWORLD.jpg) I usually don't like gangster films that have that undercover cop/detective storyline, but i have to say that this movie was masterfully done. All of the actors that were in this film were great, but hwang jung min, the guy that always says "brother" was the standout. I don't think foreigners will understand but the way he talks with his accent and constant cursing was just hilarious and completely felt right with the character. Choi min sik(old boy) was great as usual and lee jung jae, who i didn't see much of in the past played his character very well too. New World is one of the best korean gangster films i've ever watched. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
![[image loading]](http://hallyuuk.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/miracle-in-cell-no-7.jpg) Miracle in Cell No. 7 is basically the story of a mentally handicapped man living with his daughter but getting wrongly accused of rape and murder against a child. The daughter and cell mates try to convince the judge that the man is innocent. The highlights of the film are the moments between the daughter and her father. The little girl in this film used to be in the welch's grapejuice commercials and was just so cute and adorable in the film. I do think the older version of her, Park shin hye had a bit too much screen time. I understand how big of a star she is, but she wasn't needed in the movie for that long. The handicapped father also does well and the sacrifice he makes in the end is pretty damn sad. Overall, i feel like this film had all the right ingredients, but something just didn't feel right. I feel like it could have been much better, but wasn't. Still recommended, but not as highly.
![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/04/The_Yellow_Sea-p3.jpg) Basically only watched the Yellow Sea because two of my favorite actors were in the film; Ha Jung Woo(Nameless Gangster) and Kim Yun Seok(Tazza). Thought i would really enjoy the film but in the end, i felt a sort of nothingness. The plot doesn't really make too much sense and its not realistic at all. There were a few very enjoyable scenes such as the one where Kim Yun Seok uses a pig leg bone to beat the shit out of people. Film did give me some insight into the yanbian province of china. Its a place thats completely autonomous from china and people with korean descent live there. Only recommended for those who love action and don't really care about plot.
![[image loading]](http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zOQhoblKCnQ/T_bj7ObuyuI/AAAAAAAAF9Q/cjmbi4UTrtU/s640/yeongasi.jpg) Film is about this parasite that infects people and makes them go crazy for water. I don't think korea has ever had a biological "apocalyptic" film such as this and so I think its a very good first step to take. that being said, this film also had a bunch of plot of holes and stuff in general that didn't make sense. The movie wasn't good enough to cover those plot holes up either.
Going to watch a few more korean films later on so maybe i'll write about a few more of them.

Protip: Korean posters that have no English on them don't tell people that speak English what the movie is called.

Thanks for the recommendation. I also enjoyed more than any other movie in quite some time, and I am not even exactly sure why. I think part of it is the contrast between the 2 rivals, Lauda and Hunt. Both actors were also great, especially Brühl.

Ender's Game (2013) - 6.0/10
![[image loading]](http://static3.businessinsider.com/image/52091d31ecad04686b000021-1200-924/enders-game-3.jpg)
I expected this to suck. Then it started off pretty decent; they were actually following the book well without changing stuff for no reason. Then they just decided to skip over all character development and any explanation of what makes Ender a great commander. This probably could actually have been good if it was like an hour longer, but as it is, it's just more garbage.

Spoiler alert + Show Spoiler + Yeah... I was rather annoyed that they skipped basically all of the battle room - and I thought it would be confusing for people who didn't read the book to suddenly see Bean using a rope and some arbitrary things like that out of nowhere.
It's not like the movie even felt long. I would have been happy to watch another hour of it.

Agree. It felt like the movie was on fast forward and skipping the parts of the book that made it to what it is. Such a disappointment.
Also, watched Thor - The Dark World
![[image loading]](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7e/Thor_-_The_Dark_World_poster.jpg)
I want to find the guy who came up with this movie and punch him in the face. Such a money greed Marvel these days. I'll never watch Marvels comics movies anymore(mayyyybe only an X-men movie about Apocalypse). I won't support this bullshit.
