Pacific Rim was amazing, watched it for the first time last week. All this talk of cinematic techniques and standards is just pointless. I watched Pacific Rim to be entertained, and I was entertained. That makes it a good film as far as I'm concerned.

I liked Hobbit desolation of smaug for what it was, I suppose. I haven't read the book (and I plan to this year) but the biggest thing I have against it is that it's one story split into three movies from a single source. Does anyone know if this was because fans of the original trilogy had wanted to see more of the lore and atmosphere from the books to show up on the screen and this was an attempt at that? One scene that struck me as such was Thorin entering the bar near the beginning (the flashback scene I guess?) and them showing shots of the patrons, the cat, the layout of the room, etc. when that wasn't really completely necessary. It added just a moment to an otherwise long film that could have been conveyed more succinctly. (Yes, I saw that the sign said Prancing Pony! lol) That's really my only personal complaints with the film.
Just watched Reacher the other day on Netflix, it made me want to read the books it's based off of. Felt like a good use of 150 or so minutes if you want to watch an action / investigative movie.
A friend of mine said that the biography that Wolf of Wall Street was based off of is a mind-blowing read so that's probably also on the agenda as a movie to see and book to read.

The Hobbit movie(s) doesn't only draw its story from the book called "The hobbit". It draws from all the background stories presented in other Tolkien works. I haven't watched the 2nd movie yet, but the first one was full of stuff never in the book. Thats why its so long. The hobbit (book) is actually quite a simple story and wouldn't need more then 1 movie to convey.

Just watched The Wolf of Wall Street and i have to say i really enjoyed it. One thing that i liked and at the same time disliked was the fact that it didn't really condemn Jordan's actions which is good that you have to come to your conclusions but at the same time i fear that a lot of people see it as black and white and might take Jordan as their role model to life or whatever since the message wasn't really spoon-fed to them. I can't believe how often i've heard people quote the famous Gordon Gekko line in non ironical way and it just pisses me off to no end. In todays day and age i just hope people would steer away from the personal greed bullshit... oh well /end stupid rant :D

Watched "Her" - I loved it, but wanted it to be a little creepier. It gets really sad though. Phoenix is on a roll lately.

Joaquin Phoenix is probably my favorite actor working today and I can't wait to see him re team with Paul Thomas Anderson in Inherent Vice. Just watched Wolf of Wall Street and it despite the movie feeling a little bit long at times, I had a great time watching it. I laughed way more then I thought I would too.

Yeah, that movie will rock. Wolf was so ridiculously funny, and it's the best thing Scorsese has done in a long time. American Hustle might not be as well made, but the characters are actually worth caring about and the last half is incredible. I watched both last night... Was like 6 hours lol.

No people dislike it because we wanted to see the hobbit not Peter Jackson's fanfiction with over the top action scenes.

The Princess Bride Cool story. It's the movie with the scene where the guy says "you don't start a land war in Asia." It's aged well for a classic.

After a painful breakup, Ben develops insomnia. To kill time, he starts working the late night shift at the local supermarket, where his artistic imagination runs wild.
This is one of the better British films I've watched in some time. Its well written, well shot, and the actors were amazing. It pretty unique in the way Ben character starts to flow away from reality and makes up this world where he have supernatural powers, he uses for artistic means, seeing how he is painter. A good watch. 8/10
Carrie (2013)
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/v8I9ufv.jpg)
A reimagining of the classic horror tale about Carrie White, a shy girl outcast by her peers and sheltered by her deeply religious mother, who unleashes telekinetic terror on her small town after being pushed too far at her senior prom. I haven't watched the original, so cant really have any bias whether or not this lives up to the source. I'm usually a big fan Chloë Moretz, I loved her in "let me in" and "Kick Ass". But this movie was alright. She performed well, but the movie itself lacked something. It was over way too quickly, and I felt robbed of a more intriguing story when It was done.
The movie needed a better plot, then the already overdone, evil teens bullying a poor girl. But I guess it was still fun seeing Chloe kicking ass. 5/10
Escape Plan
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/5ui3yIA.jpg)
When a structural-security authority finds himself set up and incarcerated in the world's most secret and secure prison, he has to use his skills to escape with help from the inside.
I think its awesome that my childhood action heroes are still going strong. Lord only knows when Someone with the same amount of impact on our action movie culture with arrive, but luckily we still got Sly and good 'ol Arnold to keep us company.
Sly plays a guy who breaks out of prisons for a living, to test them out, to see if they live up their standards. Suddenly, he gets offered a job that pays very well, and offcause, he cant say no to that. Lord and behold, he gets betrayed and ends up in some super prison designed to break people down, sly now have to do what he does best. Break out.
The whole setup reminds me of 90's action movies, and pared with arnold the movie is indeed entertaining, but that being said. I feel like Arnold is dragging the movie down a bit. Not to mention the Twist at the end. 5/10
American Hustle
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/NqAGdfD.jpg)
A con man, Irving Rosenfeld, along with his seductive British partner, Sydney Prosser, is forced to work for a wild FBI agent, Richie DiMaso. DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia. Actually quite enjoyable, Its always a pleasure to watch Christian Bale unfold himself completely in a new character, and nail it every time. There are still a handful of other Bale movies I like better, but its a well done movie that deserves a view.7/10
State of Play
![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/4Dg91BN.jpg)
When a congressional aide is killed, a Washington D.C. journalist starts investigating the case involving the congressman, his old college friend. Personally one of my favorite Crowe movies. Its a really good political thriller that leaves you satisfied. Crowe plays the experienced senior that tries to help an old friend that is being caught in a political scandal when his lover dies tragically. Usually I'm not a big fan of Ben Affleck, but he was actually decent. 7/10

Wanted to see a german movie for a change. Stumbled upon this one:

Was really good in my opinion. Kind of "stanford experiment"-ish where a professor tries to teach what is an Autocracy (or its rise rather) to students believing the modern world is done with it. It goes a bit unrealistically fast but the point of the movie isn't lost by it. Good actor, good pace, veryinteresting subject... two thumbs up for me, recommended. Obviously, see it in original version.

Wasn't it based on an American experiment rather than a book ? Ha nevermind there's also a book.
