What Maisie knew
A little girl is caught in the middle of her parents' custody battle. Heart-wrenchingly realistic.
Alexander Skarsgård and the girl actress, Onata Aprile, especially, are good in this one.

Riddick
[image loading]

Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick's past.

This is pretty much a reboot of Pitch black. Its set 5 years after The Chronicles of Riddick, but it has the same setup. Riddick and a few other have to fight and survive the night from monsters, in order to escape the planet. Surprisingly enough, the movie last 2 hours, but the part about fending off the aliens is in the last 30-35 minutes of the movie.

I loved Pitch Black. To me it was a great Horror, sci-fi suspense movie, about a hard boiled villain that needed to group up together with a bunch of civilians in order to survive a mystic alien creature that comes out at night. (mostly)

All of that was destroyed with The Chronicles of Riddick, where we learn he is a super alien thingy, that has super human strength. Guess the director/producer couldn't get the evil convict act to work again, or to be bothered to write a script where his character could be the "hero".

Which is surprising to me since the three movies are written and directed by the same two people.

Anyways. The third instalment in my opinion is a lot better then the second one, since the whole furian aspect seems non existent in the movie, other then a vague explanation to what he is doing on the alien infested planet. He does resemble the old Riddick, but the movie still seems like a dirty rip-off the first one. Don't know what David and Jim were thinking making a movie so identical to the first one. Meh.

The Host
By Stephanie Meyer

Decent. Too much kissing. Some really nice scenes and glow in the dark rock formations.
Seems to try to hard to make sure that if the original is successful they can make sequels.
Movie about aliens that take over bodies of humans but some humans fight back. Humans and hosts live together. One particular host learns to feel and wants to feel more.

Warm Bodies
Zombie movie
Some zombies learn to feel. One zombie falls in love with a human girl. Zombies and people must learn to live together so zombies can become human-ish again.
Comedy. Decent as well.

This Is The End

I watched this after mixed reviews in this thread on it. I was one of the ones who liked it, was a pretty funny stoner movie as i call them lol. Very funny in parts, and kept a decent level of film up during it. Some people i can understand why they did not like it though. I suggest if you want to watch this that you go in to expect to just laugh for 75% of it and nothing else and you will enjoy it!

First Position
A film documenting the story of child ballerinas and how tough life is for them. Eh. Kinda entertaining but I don't feel like I learned much. I have a deeper respect for the background ballerinas from Black Swan though. It seems they all try pretty hard if they're professionals.

Yesterday, me + friends went to watch Don Jon at the movie theater.

I haven't seen something that bad in long time

The thing is, its not that bad (as some critics will try to make you think), but neither is it good. It doesn't stand out anywhere. It is not creative, it is not visiually appealing (unless you want to watch porn?). It didn't lead me to any intellectual discussions or thinking and/or it didn't engage me with its universe... basically, it did nothing
I felt like it tried to convey a message. But if it did, it did it poorly.

One of the more ridiculous and funny movies I've seen. Very enjoyable parody of kung fu movies.

Filth

I have seen this movie recently in a preview in the theatre.
It begins like the story of an overly ambitious and immoral cop, using every little filthy (dirty doesn't apply here anymore) trick to be promoted and soon escalates to a wicked trip through this cop's mind.

Prepare yourself, since this movie is one of the most politically incorrect movies I have seen in some time, but due to that is hilariously funny. Though suffering from some longueurs and a sometimes depressive tone, this movie is still worth watching.
Be advised that it contains all sorts of strong language, drug use, violence and nudity (I just mention it for those prudes out there).

9/10

PS: Boy did I feel filthy after that movie.

Shame (2011)

If you like Fassbender then I think you'd love this movie. The soundtrack is amazing. There is quite a bit of nudity in it as well, although it's tastefully done. I would also recommend not watching a trailer first. If you watch the trailer there's a couple of moments that seem quite impactful, and you might find yourself waiting for those moments to occur instead of allowing yourself to be immersed in this man's life. I'm having a hard time describing it because I don't want to give anything away. I watched it myself knowing nothing, and I ended up loving it. Just turn it on, and sink into it.

Great movie indeed. It made me notice Steve McQueen, and I'm going to keep a watch for whatever movie is he making in the future.

Closed Circuit

A high-profile terrorism case unexpectedly binds together two ex-lovers on the defence team - testing the limits of their loyalties and placing their lives in jeopardy.

Its an exciting thriller for sure, but I felt it lacked a proper ending that would wrap the movie up nicely. I liked the acting, I liked the plot, but the somewhat slow pace and an ending I didn't feel suited the movie well, makes the movie rather disappointing.

However, its still a fine crime, thriller movie that can entertain you for a an hour or so.
