The books are great and before you manage to read through 4 books the 5th will probably be out.
Even if every season is 1 book you would have to wait till 2016 before being up to speed with the story.
So if the story really grips you and you want to know all there is to know, buy the books. They are good books afterall.

Cheers man I'll deffo look into buying them.
I started reading the first book after the first two episodes and I'm so glad I did! It's really fleshing out the plot and the back-stories for me, since they clearly can't include everything in the space of one hour episodes. Very enjoyable book
http://www.hbogo.com gave access to several more cable/dish providers yesterday. If you just added HBO for Game of Thrones, you might as well make the most of your money and check out some of the older series. Rome is probably the closest to Game of Thrones, but all the other series like Sopranos and The Wire that have been on HBO are there too, and the excellent miniseries like Band of Brothers and The Pacific.
I would like to extend my thanks to teamliquid in general, as well as everyone who posted/created this thread. You have brought me 2.5 hours of entertainment (and much more to come) I would have never otherwise seen or heard of. Thank you.
They updated the cast section on HBO, so you can look the new characters up after episode 3 or see how your favorite looks. I guess they keep updating as they go along which is an awesome concept (you might have drowned in the flood of characters otherwise XD) http://www.hbo.com/#/game-of-thrones/cast-and-crew/index.html
yay I actually have seen ONE of the new faces in a movie concerning that + Show Spoiler +
The actress who played Tonks will play Osha (a wildling woman)
According to The Smoking Gun, Michael Podniestrzanski and his cousin, Joshua Ross, "got into a verbal altercation" about which of the HBO show's characters were going to win a battle.
The verbal disagreement then turned physical, with the report indicating Podniestrzanski took a swing at Ross. As the fight continued, Ross reportedly "ended up getting thrown into the front window during the altercation."
Well Lancel Lannister is suppose to be a pretty boy who is young, And pretty much all the actors in the series are pretty boys. Also most Lannister are suppose to be beautiful.

I agree. It's just that in that particular image on the HBO profile, he looks very female, which is kind of comical. I think it will be different when we see him moving and talking.
I really hoped that Cersei would look better, and more like Jaime, since they're supposed to be twins and all. But I guess that's really hard to do, someone who can act and look good and look like someone else and fit the role.
