They raid many areas with different cultures and take 'slaves'. Also in one culture it is normal for women to wear clothing with one breast being shown.

I don't believe the books gave a specific ethnic look alike for Drogo and the others other then the fact that they were more sun/wind burnt.

I'm pretty sure they put in as much nudity and sex as possible in this episode. The plot was rather bare and the whole, "Well, if you knew the books..." isn't a very good counterargument to that fact.

Small tiny request to the way we're doing spoilers. Any chance that if you're spoiling a book you can put down which book your spoiler is regarding? I only ask because I've read all of book 1 and am about halfway through book 2. So i know that there's some spoilers i can contribute discussion to but am fearful of opening one and seeing spoilers for the rest of book 2 and all of book 3 or 4. Just a small request that i think will allow for more to contribute to discussion if they haven't read the whole series. Thanks!

Also, Drogo forcing Daenerys to do the nasty wasn't really accurate. She was given the final decision on it and wanted it. Drogo may be a savage, but he has a tender side.

My only other gripes were small: Robert not fat/tall enough, Winterfell not large enough. The Others looked kind of meh.

Overall I thought it was fantastic, but I'm a fanboi to the extreme.

I think it was a necessary change for non-reader viewers given how little screen time each character got. Trying to portray her as going from terrified to willing without all the other details present in the book considering she gets a total of about 10-15 minutes screen time for the whole episode probably would come across as completely unbelieveable to non-readers. Especially considering in the book + Show Spoiler +

chapter 23 she is being forced against her will into daily sex to the point that she is considering suicide. Going from terror pre-wedding, to appearing to want it, to basicly rape and considering suicide, to love would be very hard to make convincing given the time constraints of the show, especially with no inner monologue to know her thoughts like the book gives.

Meh, the scene with Tyrion & the prostitutes has significant meaning. As does the scene between Dany & her brother. As does the wedding scene. Also, boobs are nice. No problem with the nudity.

The ratings are out- 2.26 million in the first viewing, a total of 4.2 million for all Sunday night repeats. EW says that it's 'good but not great', but evidently enough for HBO to pick it up for a second season (among other factors of course)!

It seems to be doing great internationally too- the pilot is the highest-rating episode ever in the channel that shows it in the UK (http://ww.guardian.co.uk/media/2011/apr/19/game-of-thrones-sky-atlantic-ratings) and rumor has it that HBO has already earned back around 1/3 or 1/2 of the budget through the international rights alone.

Clash of Kings is my favorite book of the series, can't wait to see how they adapt it!

Despite my excitement, I had hoped for 12 more episodes instead of 10. I can't wrap my mind around how they plan to squish all the storylines of the second book together in 10 hours. :\

As far as I understood it they will take as many episodes as needed to cover the books. Frankly: anything else would be pretty dumb and destroy the show.

According to GRRM's blog announcing the season 2 pick-up, it's only going to be 10 more episodes again (http://grrm.livejournal.com/211736.html). I really hope it's not final and they extend it to 12, 14 would be even better. If I'm not mistaken, HBO series usually only have 12-14 episodes per season?

If you think the season is gonna be such a hit you renew after the pilot episode why would you also not take as many episodes as you needed to make sure you covered the story of the books to do them justice and keep the rabid fan base?
