Yes it will spoil the mini series, but then again it well enlighten you on things and doings that were not aired on the series. I'd recommend reading the books tho!

Well no wrap-up naturally since, and I'm sure most people who follow the show already know, there will be a second season.

Well one could start with the first book .. that wouldn't spoil a whole lot, then maybe I could make a decision to read more after that

Was anyone else pissed that the dragons were actually wyverns?

yea but most series puts the main story lines to a standpoint. Like the drathraki storyline, that was wrapped up pretty well,it had an ending that closed the chapter of that storyline, while of course presenting a new twist to move the story on. This is something that viewers are comfortable with. The rest felt more like we left them midbattle which seems to displease some people. Dont get me wrong though, I am not one of those people, I was just trying to understand them

Each leg costs 100K to animate. Wish they used that extra 600K for better stuffed heads tho.

Is it worth it for me to read the books first? I'm intending to read the books anyway, but I find that TV shows are usually a lot worse than books... Is this the case with GoT? To summarize, books or TV show first?

For that alone I recommend the books first.

But my point is they are not real. You could have a ten foot rock and call it a dragon if you want, its there story to do with as they like. Complaining because the dragons aren't how you pictured them in your minds eye is a bit precious, they can't do everything exactly how everyone wants it.

Standard dragon is 4 legs and 2 wings, then you get drakes and wyverns and wyrms and all that jazz that are deviations on that. Although wyrm is just a slang for any dragon in some stuff...

Between game of thrones and walking dead, i find little else in TV as gripping and interesting. united states of tara, breaking bad, rescue me, always sunny, camelot, weeds(w00t coming next week!!! final season..maybe), entourage..none of those are interesting to you?
on topic..Pretty epic ending. I kinda had the feeling back in like episode 3 or 4 when she first put the egg on the fire and didn't get burned that that was a huge foreshadow for the ending of the season.

Near the end you are starting to approach my point. Not everyone reads d&d or whatever the shit, the only thing that is actually agreed upon by humanity is that dragons are lizards with wings. And I am sure that even that could be taken at liberty. Last I heard there wasn't some ultimate authority on dragons.
edit: i take back my other shit im not really sure lol. but i've seen all diff kinds of dragons in my day

+ Show Spoiler +
There's no "standard"dragon. Depending on who you ask you'll get wildly different depictions of dragons. For example the chinese dragon doesn't even have wings. Just because its in the monster manual doesn't mean its the definitive dragon.
Edit: I can't believe we're having this argument.

I would watch the first season (if that is what you are asking), then read the books, just because you won't be potentially bothered by any of the changes they made, and you will have faces to attach to all the names when you read. Then read book one and decide for the rest.
I don't think you need to wait for season 2 and beyond to read the rest of the series, and once you start reading you probably won't want to stop at book 1. I guess the main thing is how closely you need a TV show or movie to follow the book to enjoy it. Some people can enjoy both book and show, even if there are changes they don't like or agree with, and for some people the changes become such a focus that it ruins it, even though they might have liked it if they had never read the book they are comparing it to. It seems that MOST of the readers have found the majority to be a faithful adaptation, even though there are lots of discussions on changes that some did not like.

Pretty much exactly what i was trying to say. There is no ultimate authority on dragons and anyone trying to argue otherwise is being silly.
