making a wild assumption but i'm guessing fans of the book are just fans of reading. they enjoy reading the details and imagining the scenes for themselves.
i personally like the TV character of Dexter, especially in the past 2 seasons when he's gotten emotional. my favorite random moment is Dexter driving away from the psycho thanksgiving dinner at Trinity's. maybe i'm just terrible with books, but i never get those small pleasures from reading.

Season was kind of disappointing. Haven't seen the finale yet but they tried to create and deal with too many problems also they changed too many things about Dexter's character. Don't really see how the finale will be able to really be for the better and end the season on a good note.

Be prepared for a tremendus wrap-up of the season. They wrap everything up with a nice bow-tie like an xmas gift. They wrap it up so nice and tight that there's no obvious direction for season 6. Personally, I'm disappointed, they set up so many great possibilities and not only did they decline to pull the trigger on a single one of them, they pulled the rug out and made it unlikely that they'll go back in that direction anytime soon.
I completely agree. I'm so disappointed, I'm only going to watch the first 3 episodes of the next season to decide whether or not I'm going to continue watching the show. All that build up and not a single bit of suspense. So disappointing...

+ Show Spoiler +FUCK! I can't believe Deb didn't GO BEHIND THE FUCKING CURTAIN! Lumen left!? Beside those 2 GLARING points the finale was pretty good, but not nearly as good as it could of been.

Finale didn't have much impact. Lame. ;/

Yeah, the season as a whole was a bit disappointing. Like I think you could skip this season and watch the next and there wouldn't be much new information besides Deb and Quinn being together. Although big props for Masuka getting that hot tattoo chick.

terribly disappointing ending. whole season was boring and lacked excitement. too many conveniences.

Man... I don't know about that episode. I really wanted so many different things to happen there. Still as a while I wouldn't rate the season too badly. It had a slow start and got great, and ended with kind of a whimper. Here's hoping for a good season 6.

Finished watching the finale and my first thought was... meh. I was pretty damn excited for the finale but nothing really happened. + Show Spoiler +Random tractor trap was freaking hilarious.

The season felt like it had a great deal of potential, but as it stands not much has changed. Dexter got to help someone, and then they just left. Quinn starts inspecting Dexter, then he stops and that just ends. It's almost the same as it was at the beginning of the season. The only differences are Esther & Cody are closer to Dexter again, and Deb & Quinn are together. All the shit that happened doesn't appear to have made a huge impact in the end which is kinda disappointing.

Yeah, too much buildup and nothing happening from it. Starting with the innocent Dexter killed in the beginning of the season for no reason, Quinn investigating Dexter only to drop it, the whole Liddy story which was then pretty much dropped, and then such a long buildup of Jordan Chase as this big bad villain who takes Dexter hostage at gunpoint but leaves him and Lumen alive to... talk to them? Didn't like that we didn't get clarification about Emily, and that Deb left them behind the curtain, what a copout.
This season ranks last for me, below season 3.

I think I still like this season more than Season 3. Did Season 3 have Masuka jumping air or Quinn's hiccup & fart cat? I think not!

This season was sick good until the finale. Lumen was hot and interesting and added a great side to the show! The way they kicked her off was retarded... It made 0 sense. The car accident... haven't ever seen that before... sigh................. Didn't even kill him in a cool fashion or anything... I've grown to liking the Lumen character and now she's just gone I feel like poor Dexter, heartbroken lonely and confused What happened to my show?

That was a pretty lacklustre season finale. I guess on the plus side that makes it consistent with the rest of the season?
But seriously, this season was so un-Dexterish. I feel like the writers may be a little out of touch with what made the show so great in the beginning. It used to be that the themes and art of every episode drove the plot; Dexter's epic open ended monologues being expressed and represented in the things going on around Dexter.
Now the plot is sort of the point of the show, and they throw in bits of artistic creativity here and there. Season 4 was pretty similar in this regard, but I think it managed to stay in most viewer's good graces because of a good villain and tense plot.
Did you watch season 1 because you were concerned about Deb getting kidnapped, or did you watch season 1 for Dexter's epic badass personality and philosophical monologues?
In season 5 we're presented with the option of either being concerned about lumen killing rapists or _______________ Nothing? Dexter finding a partner is the best I can think of, which has been done before with Lila and Miguel. Conveniently, that entire idea removed itself with Lumen's exit.
This entire season felt like a filler. Filler is necessary when you want to extend a show because you know it will bring in the ratings but don't want to risk making anything serious changes to the show yet.

I got to agree that the build up was a tad too massive, I expect deb to discover them and chose to ignore it, giving her moral dillemas and quinns nose a much bigger role and forcing lumen to stay.
Seems like they should exploit the fact that both Deb and Quinn are closer to the truth in their own ways.

loved all the buildup for the season finale, but didn't really think the finale lived up to the hype
|
I can't believe I actually thought they might finally have Debra learn Dexter's secret. What a moron I am.

I can't lie, I expected better too for the finale

The finale wasn't as good as I was expecting it to be, I still did enjoy the season quite a bit.
Everything got cleaned up a bit too easily for my taste. In seasons past when the seasons ended without threats or tragedies at least they were a bit more dramatic about killing off his season-long enemy.
+ Show Spoiler +My favorite part about the finale was Quinn knowing that Dexter killed Liddy. It is still unclear if he knows/thinks Dexter is a serial killer though. I would've expected more of a reaction from Quinn if that were the case, but at the same time Quinn would have expected Dexter to be shaken up a bit at least if it was his first kill. I think that will go a long way towards developing the relationship between the two of them next season.
Also, some of the conversation between Deb and Dexter after she saw him behind the plastic at the camp hinted towards her knowing it was him that killed Jordan. It almost seemed like she was going fishing for him to admit it to her, the tone of the music in that conversation along with his expressions gave off that vibe to me at least. But, I think they really just love to play into the fact that Deb is so naive when it comes to Dexter and it is just a bit of foreshadowing that she will eventually find out.

finale was very meh, but after 4's i guess we all expected a lot. I expect 6 to be as good as 4 though if not better.
I hear they signed on for 6 and will be getting a pay upgrade for 7.
