Thank you! I appreciate it.

Botamo is out. Good riddance to a gimmick character.
The U2 fight ended up just being sidelined. Meh.
U10 was clearly outmatched and their end indicated as much. They went out with much more grace than U9, I will say that much for them.
Next episode looks pretty cool.

Next episode better be all fight, no talking. I'm trying to see some good fighting finally.
Gohan shined the second half. Hopefully he can get some rest and recover some energy. He's gonna kill frost ^_^

No evil smirk this time and the U10 angel seemed very sad. Hopefully next one is good, this one almost felt like a filler to me...

As an old fan of sailor moon , that exchange between rebrianne and 17 made my day !!!!

Same, but that was basically it. This episode was actually somewhat supremely bad. The fights were generic as hell and it felt like an extremely low effort episode. Was half their team on vacation? The interns had to throw together an episode?
The fact that they had the exact same "you missed" "lol no I didn't!!" attack in 2 different fights, in the same episode, felt incredibly low effort. Like wtf.
I am deathly afraid that Goku's SSG transformation is going to make me bury myself alive. How are they going to do the SSG transformation?
In the manga, isn't red the fast one and blue the strong one? Maybe the anime is finally doing that? But Goku looks distinctly god'ish. I can't help but think the anime is going to have SSG be a much stronger form of SSB.
But if Goku is able to pull out SSG, why is he using it on someone other than hit? Am I supposed to believe he thinks this rabbit is a strong enough enemy to justify using that much ki? Why in the world is he helping hit?
In your classic FFA scenario, you only help an opponent when it is for the sake of doing damage to an opponent that you could not manage on your own. It is often for the sake of making sure a stronger opponent is brought down to your level. So WHY are they teaming up against the rabbit, who was already shown to be quite weak in the pride troopers backstory episodes?
I am terrified. I really think the next episode is going to be even worse.

Super for me is pretty much GT, watch it for the cool moments, dont think its cannon. Just wanna say tho, im still very hopeful for the goku vs jiren match, would be nice to see vegeta rematch hit too.
|
So far this tournament has been worse than GT for me, it is incredible bad even for an anime.
|
You must have high expectations or something, I enjoy it. I am enjoying super a 10000 times more than GT. I like GT, but it was way too Goku focused and lots of silly moments.

Not big expectations, but watching fillers, no sense battles, and mediocre power ups make things look just dumber.

There's little tension in these episodes for me because you know it's all being set up for some combo of goku vegeta hit jiren toppo and frieza facing off at the end

+ Show Spoiler + No. Blue is much better in everything except the fact that it gets weak really fast. Red only makes Vegeta look fast, because he transforms into Blue in a instant to avoid attacks, to save ki, and transform into blue for surprise attacks, he does the transformation so fast that Goku Black doesn't even notice. Vegeta got the idea from the way Goku beat Hit. Goku was Red during the whole match except the very last moment.
Later Goku took Blue even further, he injects all of Blue's ki into his body in order to contain it, gets all beefed up and his able to fight fused Zamasu, but eventually Blue's ki starts to leak from his body.
So I guess Blue is like SSJ3, a really powerful transformation that doesn't last.

So, probably a good time to do a "where do we stand" on all the competitors.
U6 and U7 are mostly still at full strength. Both look pretty stacked. U11 is down to just four, including Jiren, Toppo, Fake Beerus, and a fourth random. U3 lost their ace and they're probably going to be tossed aside in short order. U2 had their episode, and I don't think they're going to surprise anyone. They will get eliminated eventually. U4 will probably see some play. They still have their two invisible fighters and we don't know who their ace players are. But they lost players randomly and I think that the sneakiness won't do them favors in the long run.

I think my gripe with this tournament arc is that there have been no decent fights as yet, just Goku sandbagging with not enough of the unknown fighters being presented as a real threat.
The shoutouts to other anime are fun, but squash matches are no fun. They could have matched them against the U7 non-saiyans and at least then have the uncertainty of who would win instead of Goku being "I'm a play with you and pretend I can't teleport, or SSJ1, or kick. Now I remembered I can do that stuff I win".

Now I remembered I can do that stuff I win". The way I think of it is that this tournament is an arc. Being an arc, rather than a fight, there are dips in action. It's kind of like past series with a martial arts tournament. Not every episode is a fight since there are the episodes that go between matches. It's hilarious just how much time is left, though. We're not even 25% of the way done lol.
|
I feel like there was a better way to handle this tournament in general. Watching it, you don't feel this sense of it being a huge battle royal with a short time limit, it feels like a long, drawn out series of fights with characters who I don't know, don't care about, and who don't put up a fight, all the while there's no real scenery. I think it could stand to use more zoomed-out scenes, show more of the chaos and the scope of what's going on, give me a sense that there are several battles happening at once. So far it's pretty disappointing in this regard.
|
I have to say that on the contrary, I'm very much enjoying this tournament arc so far. My quibbles are all minor right now. All eyes on how they choose to end this arc, because that's my big gripe with the Goku Black arc.
|
I hate how they have only been fighting for 12 minutes. TWELVE FUCKING MINUTES. There is no sense of urgency here. Besides a quick monologue, this feels like a backyard brawl with the boys. Surprised Beerus or Champa haven't cracked open a cold one yet. Just doesn't get you invested.
And Goku+Hit vs Jiren+Rabbit is the next fight to take center stage.

No way Jiren is fighting for real already.

The Goku Black arc had a lot of other issues that triggered me (like the inconsistencies of everyone's power between each and every episode) even beside the ending. So far I'm okay with the tournament on that front. It just needs more tension.
The problem with showing Goku fight people is that we know he can beat almost everyone in the tournament in an instant, so if he gets 'pushed back' by that one girl because he doesn't transform, well who gives a shit? He's not gonna lose to those plebs. But it's a lot more believable that there are fighters (like Obni last episode) who could give Gohan a good fight without holding back 95% of his power. Or Piccolo, or 17. And honestly nobody expects Goku to get eliminated, but any of those guys may very well be next. You can use that for tension. Not Goku.
|
Yeah, they should use Goku less. Or give him a more meaningful opponent. But they're mostly just saving the best for last I guess?
But this isn't much different from the early rounds in the Tenkaichi Budokai arcs. Goku won't be losing to Manwolf or Pamput or Krillin or whatever. That also had no tension but like this, it was still kinda fun.
