Why is such a pain in the ass to find ebooks online? Is there no free ebook edition of One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich? Why is it not on Project Gutenberg? Why are there so many fucking parasites on google trying to collect my email in return for some shady download of something that use ebooks in their name?

Acquire a Kindle, bypass shady scams, profit

Or I'm sure you at least have a device that can use the Kindle app. It's actually really good in comparison to most other ebook sources.

How does that help me with actually obtaining the free ebooks?

They have a lot of free ebooks on the Kindle, but usually it's only classics D:

It's not. Look at your private messages.

Edit: Also gutenberg is only going to give you books on which the patent has expired, and it's not the case of Ivan Denisovich.

Edit 2: Thanks for the reply below, I wasn't familiar with the differences between patent and copyright.

Remember that _One Day_ wasn't published until 1962, any English translations would obviously be later and not in the public domain.

By classics I meant books that the author has been dead for at least a hundred+ years (for instance you can get Frankenstein and The Republic for free).

Public domain is what you mean.

Just finished "Excession" by Iain M Banks.

I really like his style of writing Sci-Fi and this was one of the better one he's written, even though one of the subplots were a bit so so good.

Anyone ever read any of his non Sci-Fi books?

What did you think of the Deleuze? I read that earlier this year but haven't ever really stumbled upon anyone else that has read Cinema 2 prior to seeing this.

Trying reading As I Lay Dying from Faulker in English, can't understand shit. I think it is the first book that I dropped because I couldn't read a sentence without understanding it properly (I mean, LITERALLY). The others Faulkner's work are easier to read?

I'm sad to read that; As I Lay Dying is one of my favorite novels. Can't say I'm surprised however; Faulkner's claim to fame is his attempt at matching difficult to describe situations/perspectives with language that does its best to "get at the truth of things", which basically leads to a fair amount of prose that teeters dangerously close towards gibberish. I'm going to go out on a limb here and recommend that you avoid Faulkner until you feel extremely comfortable with your grasp of complex English, both written and spoken. You could give his most famous work, The Sound and the Fury, a try, but considering that a major part of the book deals with the mind of a mentally handicapped man, I wouldn't get your hopes up.

I bought One hundred years of solitude and read the first chapter to get a bit of relief from my long books, but my gf borrowed it to me The beginning was really excellent.

Tell her to give it back or else you will leave her in solitude for... one hundred years!!!

I started reading this. Pretty good so far.
