My speculation: Eren is not the only one capable of controlling the titans. We have established that the titans do not eat humans for food, they do it for whatever other reason to destroy the human race. Therefore I'd say that there has been another source that made titans attack the humans constantly, eating them. | ||

EDIT: OH MAY GERD just realized that ape-titan doesn't have this power. if you remember correctly, he couldn't stop a titan from trying to eat the person he was trying to talk to (so he just crushed it but that's another thing). ape-titan can't bend titans to his will like eren (or to a lesser extent, annie) as of now what's the most confusing to me is why berne/theotherguy don't want eren to have this power. | ||

EDIT: if wave is right and the titan-shifters do "smell" like a human or are otherwise detectable by titans then surely that means they are misleading the titans as well i.e. they are infiltrating everyone. does that mean they are on some third side? and if so what does that side have to gain by destroying humanity? the whole reason why they had to camp in the trees for so long was becuase they had to wait for night becuase they didnt want to risk making the run while titans were active also remember the captain guy brought a ton of titans to intercept the kidnappers and the titans immediately started attacking the armoured dude (WAY before Eren used his ability) the reason Annie wasnt attacked was because she worked alone she rallied some titans and led them to the scouters like how she brought Titans to the wall when giant dude kicked the door in only time we see armoured titan during the first breach was when he tackled the door, he probably found a safe place to transform, got up to speed then used 3D gear to GTFO before any titans noticed him just realized that ape-titan doesn't have this power. if you remember correctly, he couldn't stop a titan from trying to eat the person he was trying to talk to (so he just crushed it but that's another thing). ape-titan can't bend titans to his will like eren (or to a lesser extent, annie) too soon to jump to such a conclusion, the other titans seemed to pretty much ignore him unlike the other titans they attacked also so far the power has only been able to drive them in a frenzy at a target there may not be a way to make them back off, and ape titan may not want to use a technique for something so insignificant | ||
