There will be extended editions, and they will be longer, not shorter. Knowing Peter's excesses, I doubt he would ever make a version that is actually smaller.

I hope they release the Short-Cut Version on DVD later for the non-fans. I however was deeply satisfied since I love Extended Cuts. TLDR. Fans wont be disappointed. Non-fans will think it drags but enjoy it still. This feels like an Extended cut.

The first part I'd rate with a 9/10, while the 3D HFR as it stands on itself was for me not satisfying at all. 7/10. At certain specific scenes I was unable to even remotely see what was happening, it was all a big blurr. Mainly during crowded scenes such as a fight or a big group bunched up together at close range did I not seem to get any idea of what was going on. Also, during some scenes I just had the idea the filming was going too fast. As if fast forward was on. I don't know, it just looked rather weird as to how fast a 4 feet dwarf can run over plains. Overall I'd still rate it extremely high, as it did still feel like a LOTR movie with great visual effects, a great cast and ofcourse a great storyline. Hopefully the 2D version will be an even better experience.

by the continuous usage of the same track in a different pace/played by different instruments throughout the movie? Especially when it was sometimes the old LOTR main theme's tune I heard over and over again. Some great camerashots in it on the other hand though! :D Come to think of it! + Show Spoiler + Did anyone else notice the same usage of certain LOTR scenes? Gandalf going nuts inside Bilbo's house, The stone giants in combination with the part where Saruman in LOTR#1 lets snow fall on the mountain ridge to try and kill the fellowship? There were a couple more I can't think of right now. I just found it a bit sad I had to be remembered. As if they weren't able to come up with alternatives.

My opinion is that goblins are to orcs, what ponies are to horses because Sting lights up both in Moria and on the shores where Frodo leaves the brotherhood, Treebeard confuses a hobbit for a "little orc"

It was great and the only flaw was that it felt that they accidently released the Extended Version on the cinemas instead. Non-fans will certainly think it drags, and it does. It should have been cut 10-20 minutes. I hope they release the Short-Cut Version on DVD later for the non-fans. I however was deeply satisfied since I love Extended Cuts. TLDR.
