Tesla had seen a script of their review, which is true. Top Gear have one day to film a track scene, and tee's simply not enough time to do both a review and filming in one day. But that doesn't mean they haven't tested the cars beforehand. They actually thoroughly test the cars both on the track and several days off before every test, sometimes weeks. Tesla was in the wrong in the story you're thinking of. edit: to put it another way. They didn't break down on the track on film day (although Jeremy noticed a clear cut in power), but they put that in because that's what happened in the review they did beforehand.

I heard that that was only an excuse after some public pressure (the first reaction was to simply deny the whole thing) and that the actual records stored in the car tell a completely different story, there was absolutely no breakdown ever. could you reference where you read that? I'm all for clearing this story up.

According to Top Gear Magazine the series starts in January. On 21 December 2013, Jeremy tweeted: "The Top Gear Christmas special will air in March. But I have made a programme about PQ17. It airs on January 2nd."

There are real reviews in top gear? I always thought of it as a "take it not too serius" comedy show with cars.

Yeah they do try sometimes Micro Jackson, you always take their reviews with tongue and cheek though, but most of what they say about the car is very true it just comes out a bit silly to some people. They seem to review the big boy cars better than they do the mid tier cars though. Like i think most Jaguar cars that have been reviewed and tested are always better than when they review a Renault Clio or the new Fiesta for example xD
