Yeah, they tried something new with the India episode and made it not a road trip. In short it failed and it sucked: -The cars they bought were really nice and they ruined them -It had 60 minutes of stupid skits -They rode on a train after the first bit with the cars and weren't really in cars until the last 40 minutes)
Only the last 30 minutes felt epic which was classic Top Gear road trip along with some bits in the middle about Indian traffic.
I watch Top Gear for scripted and unscripted car stuff, not for silly an hour of silly skits. I can understand it for certain segments and the Top Ground Gear Force special but not good Top Gear road trip material.

I agree, the food deliver, riding on train, the party parts were pretty boring. Last bit was better.

I think there's one of the winch scene.

I agree , there was no <<magic>> in this one.. Vietnam..Amazon.. they all were spectacular! As someone staded , too much comedy(and stupid one) and not enough love for the cars.
But i do not wanna judge because i remember in a video last year they stated that they had enough of fans demanding more of this , more of that and because of that they took a large break last year or something like that.

pretty much this.

Somehow, the cars worked too well, that was rather disappointing.
There were some funny things but the shenanigans didn't seem spontaneous or that natural as previously.
Still, better than most stuff on TV.

Yeah, I kinda am tempted to watch it again but...

I quite liked it, especially near the end of the episode.
and as usual Time Of India did not like it...

The India episode was disappointing, but I suppose we have been spoiled by previous specials which were absolutely brilliant. That said they are still pretty good at generating controversy.

Top Gear India special criticised for 'toilet humour'
A Top Gear special in India was "offensive" and full of "toilet humour", the High Commission of India (HCI) in London has complained.
The 28 December special featured jokes about food and trains and a Jaguar car fitted with a toilet seat on its boot.
The HCI has written to the BBC after it was contacted by "too many people" who were "very upset" by the programme ...
The diplomat cited an "offensive" banner placed on the side of a train - reading "the United Kingdom promotes British IT for your company" - which read quite differently when the carriages were parted. Even though I should know better by now, they always get me with their signs

I found it a pretty enjoyable episode, I agree it was a bit lacking in the car department but it was pretty funny in general and amusing that it has caused so much offence, both in India and the UK.

Good stuff on the episode wiki page
Series Eighteen is expected to start airing on 29 January 2012 with seven episodes,[1] following on from the 2011 Christmas special which aired on 28 December 2011.[2] In the special they take a route across India, the first of the many countries Top Gear plans to visit over the course of the new series, according to Jeremy Clarkson. Shooting in India began on 2 October, with the first leg of the shooting beginning in suburbs of Mumbai.[3][4] The show was also seen in Lecce, Italy with a Noble M600, McLaren MP4-12C and a Lamborghini Aventador.[5] Hammond announced during the Top Gear Live shows in Birmingham, that additional recordings for the new series had been done in the USA.
In the January 2012 edition of Top Gear Magazine, it featured a preview of what to expect in series 18. It included a piece where Richard Hammond drives a NASCAR safety car for a real race, later going on to drive an actual NASCAR race car. The magazine also featured a part of some of the power tests to expect, including Jeremy Clarkson driving a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Edition, a Mercedes SLS AMG Roadster and a Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale. Hammond meanwhile will drive a 2012 BMW M5 F10, and May will have a Vauxhall Corsa Nurburgring Edition. Another feature is going to China to test drive Chinese cars, Italy in 3 super-cars, Lamborghini Aventador, Noble M600 and a McLaren MP4-12C. Also James May is taking a trip to USA to test sports hybrid supercar Fisker Karma, meet AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson and drive his 1928 Bentley Vanden Plas LeMans Tourer. According to Top Gear Executive Producer Andy Wilman, boys are going to northern Sweden as well, where they will race the new Ferrari FF across a Silverstone-shaped ice track. Also Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond will attempt to film a car chase sequence for The Sweeney. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Top_Gear_episodes#Series_Eighteen

I've seen a few episodes before and I recently started watching Top Gear from the beginning. I'm now halfway through 4th season. I'm a little behind when it comes to the lore of the petrol though. I've signed up on the Top Gear website and there's some good stuff, but nothing really complex and no real feel of a community...
So the obvious question arises: What's the TL for cars and/or motorbikes, the perfect place to get all the news, the reviews, the caripedia, the community? Preferably EU based but if it's as awesome as TL I don't really care as long as English is used. Thanks for any help.

There are a number of owners club forums floating around, but no collective forum as far as I know of.
You could try the finalgear forum, a cars + top gear + other car shows site.

I dont think there's such thing as a TL for motoring. Yes finalgear has some active general automotive forums. Jalopnik is a good read sometimes as well. Lot of stuff is spread out on car magazines' websites and specific brand/model forums, I guess.

I use Jalopnik and Autoblog (plus Wheels magazine) for all my auto news. I think I'm pretty up to date!
