SPOILER WARNING If you only watch the show, this thread will spoil you of future events in HBO's Game of Thrones. Thread contains discussion of all books of the series A Song of Ice and FireClick Here for the spoiler-free thread. |
the series was good but it will never be as good as the books. although i'm really curious about how they will show some of the scenes. + Show Spoiler +like how daenerys got unsullied or backwater war or the shadow of mellisandre or the stabbing of jon or the red wedding or the assassination of tywin lannister or the events in dorne or...or...or...or but i'm kind of hopeful because they were largely fateful to the book and successful in many regards.
btw any news from the new book?

What do people think about the exclusion of the Tower of Joy dream from the HBO series as well as the exclusion of the repeated "Promise me, Ned." thoughts that Eddard has? I feel like both of these things are pretty pivotal in the Rhaegar + Lyanna = Jon theories and the show skipped over them.
Done on purpose to draw out that plotline in later seasons or simply excluded because they were deemed not important? I have a hard time believing that later but I'm interested in what other people think.

wow rob killed didnt see that shit coming i must say. noone of importance died in so long shit just blindsided me. I quiet liked him too, unlike Ned who i mostly felt indifferent towards.

I don't understand why Martin get so famous for killing off characters. Compared to authors like Steven Ericson, Martin is a soft-hearted man.

I doubt that killing off characters is the only reason why Martin is getting famous

That plot line really has nothing to do with the main story. Well not yet anyway. Given what happened at the end of DwD who knows if we'll ever find out.
I really can't see HBO doing a lot of the little intricacies of the whole series. There are so many little things that could be explored, that would be awesome but they probably won't have time for. The Tower of Joy dream in the book sure was a great way to start a chapter. You admire it more throughout the series as you find out how much of a boss Ser Arthur Dayne is.
|
Yeah, you just can't expect them to put all the little things in. There are so many little things.
I feel like if anything, the show will just make it obvious when the time comes. In the book, all the hints for R+L=J are so subtle, theres no way they'd pull that off in the show. They'd probably take the same path as they did with Renly being gay.

So because I was "spoiling" things talking about Margaery in the other thread, I come here to ask you folks.
Do you think of Margaery as an "innocent little girl" or a scheming crazybitch who will be on the same level as her grandma the Queen of Thorns eventually?
I don't see much innocence.

Well do you think she was actually being a little cheating whore on Tommen? I don't. I believed that she was innocent and wasn't fuckin everything in sight. One possibility is her and Loras might have a thing... who knows. She definitely seems like a schemer though.
|
I think there may be a bit of scheming, but no mastermind level shit. She definitely seems to be trying to get Tommen onto her side, as Cersei clearly saw, but everything else Cersei saw I believe was just... crazy.

Pretty sure she isn't Loras' type.

Just going through the second book. When Arya "frees" Harrenhall and a man asks her who she is, why doesn't she says she is Arya stark ?

And turn the ancillary ones into after meal desserts.

She is wary of the northmen under Roose Bolton. Especially since they cooperate with Vargo Hoat. But this is not very well explained. I think she just senses that she shouldn't trust them.

I hate when people do this.
The only main chracters he has killed off yet are Ned, Catelyn and possibly + Show Spoiler +
Robb was not a POV character and thus he was not a main character. He was simply and important character.
Besides, I'm pretty sure the 5 biggest characters are Dany, Tyrion, Jon, and Bran, and maybe Arya to a lesser extent. And only one of them is in motral danger atm
|
Yeah, I she just thought it better to not reveal herself just yet. Can always do it later if required.
@Eris: I'd argue that Arya is more important than Bran. Bran's got some interesting shit going on, but he's had like... 3? chapters the past two books. I guess that doesnt neccesarily mean that he's less important, but I just don't see him affecting things tooooooooooooooo much in the future. Whereas it looks like Arya is getting into a role to do exactly that.

Have you read ADWD?
+ Show Spoiler +Bran's basically being set up to be a supermage kind of guy, or as I've heard a lot, he's going to be leading the Others. Arya is just going to kill somebody and then decide she doesn't want to be nobody anymore.
