I finally watched the movie after the DVD came out. What was all the hype about? It's a good movie, but the plot and the motivation for the characters was really thin especially the relationship between Saito and Cobbs, young men together? and why would Yusuf risk his life for something that did not really concern him?
The ending was more of a hook/ gimmick, kinda like the Sixth sense.

There is no such thing as risking one's life in inception. You don't die in a dream. And if you watch more closely, Yusuf was tricked into joining the team.
|
so imo the movie is about inception being done by the character Miles on Cobb. the whole movie is in Cobbs brain and the objective is to to plant the idea that Cobb needs to get over his wifes death and that it's okay to come back home to his kids and move on. the movie itself is just the inception being played out. If you think about it Miles was taught by the military and was on a different mastery level than Cobb and he taught Cobb what he knows so could of easily been done.
something to think about, this makes since to me but most people don't look at the movie this way still think it's about dreams...

I have one question after re watching it
How did they get out of the first dream level? After the Van drops in the water, and they get out and are on land and are talking, it just cuts RIGHT to the plane?
Did the lady on the plane provide a kick for them? Or was the plane landing enough of a kick?

You see it the same way that Saito wakes up on his own in the train at the beginning of the movie.
After a certain time the drug they were pumping wears off and they wake up.

If you liked this movie I bet you love "Shutter Island".
It's about a island where US worst mad people are sent. Now dicaprio goes with his assistant to search for a person who escaped. Very nice and smooth storytelling and good directing. I love the cast and visual point of the movie.

I kind of liked shutter island much better. More emotions, and better story. Inception was so much mindless dream action I was kind of bored. Have you ever dreamed a really boring dream, just hoping the night would end so you can wake up? Kind of feel the same with Inception although it was worth watching. I just dont like so much mindless action.
I think it was worth watching Inception for the sole purpose of watching South Park's "Insheeption" episode that was released a few weeks ago, some good moments there (and some bad ofcourse when south park tries too hard to diss the movie).

I really liked the idea of living in your own dream world. What Mal and Cobbs did, anyone would have done. I mean why not. Not much for me to criticize this movie for. Enjoyed it throughout the whole movie.

I love Inception solely for all the fantastic memes that arose from it.

I agree, Leo di Cap is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. He only picks quality roles with quality scripts.

Or he's actively picking roles where people can question his sanity, because that's easier for him to act?

This movie was really cool but failed. I don't remember any of the characters names either but the main characters wife committed suicide to wake up. Basically even if she did think she was in a dream she could still WAIT. If she waits she gets a longer life and gets to see her kids. If she kills herself she might be really killnig herself or possibly getting back to her real life earlier. So overall that was a huge problem and plothole which ruined the movie for me. It was still a cool concept with good character/story/graphics but the whole reason the wife killed herself made the entire story stupid. And the resolution was kinda shitty too with "youre just a shade" blah blah blah.

The point is that (it's implied) Cobbs spent a whole lifetime in limbo in order to save Saito. Spending another 50 years in the limbo world is a pretty huge when think about the fact that he wanted to get back to his children ASAP.

???
Cobbs went after Saito and Saito got old waiting since time is much faster on the deeper dream level he was on. Cobbs didn't wait, Saito did. Thats why saito was old since the few seconds Cobbs was in the higher dream world decades past for Saito.

After seeing that thread I went on and googled what was the real ending of the story cause I remembered arguing with a friend that it was all a dream and he said it was all real.
On IMDB there is alot of Q/A and a big pool that is almost 50/50.
There is alot of reading on what could be pointing on real/fake but all in all I'd say it was true and Cobb was not dreaming at the ends.
It seems that at the end of the credit you can hear the totem falling and there is also that ring that Cobb wear when he is in a dream that you cannot see at the end.
Still interesting too look at all theses comments.

I'm glad i saw the one where all was true. I would have been extermly pissed off with the other ending because it's so obvious. Actually i was afraid of this happening.

I thought south park was dissing the average joe who claims to understand the movie.

It's all a dream. Mal woke up, Cobb is still dreaming.

I liked the idea, but I disliked the plot. Feels like they really missed out a lot of parts that could've been done so greatly. Also, my logic complains at certain moments in the movie such as the dream gravity-thing in the snow world or the whole time aspect thing going on but they're in dreams to begin with so I guess it shouldnt be logical. Others from that, well I liked the acting and the effects.
