This thread is fantastic, so far I've watched 3 movies from those recommend here and aside from cube which was just okay they've been FANTASTIC.
Survive Style 5 and The Man from Earth are 10/10.
Next up, Adam's Apples, The Lives of Others and Love Exposure (particularly excited about this one)

aka. noroi

generally I'm not a huge fan of horror films because the story usually doesn't make sense, and it's been a while since I've been genuinely creeped out from a film but this movie does both really well.

It's shot in mockumentary style (kind of like blair witch project except a bit more polished) with this paranormal reporter going around japan researching these seemingly random phenomena involving ghosts on variety shows and kids with psychic powers which you find out later are all connected. There were definitely a lot of creepy moments in the film (involving kids, pigeons, dogs and this old lady O_O ) and the film's pretty long for a j-horror because this one actually attempts to develop a story.

also another plus is that the japanese celebrity that gets cursed is extremely hot

So yeah even if you're not a huge j-horror film fan, I'd recommend this.

Really good movie. And a chance for people in the USA who watch it to contract some hype about the World Cup

Edit:

And something more classic now.

The best scam movie ever created.

Pretty interesting thriller/detective movie.
Time is precious. Waste it wisely.

Really great movie, don't know how many people know about it!

I watched this my senior year of high school with my film making class. We had the opportunity
to watch one of the films in the Sundance festival. The thing that really stands out is how the movie is shot. It's a documentary but slowly evolves out of that, it's a really cool transition. Oh and don't let the fact Michael Cera is in it fool you.

I always wondered about her scene with Dimitri Martin. I know they've performed together before and Dimitri Martin was just fooling around here but it seemed that the girl genuinely got irritated with his schtick. That she was not amused at all and made it clear to him. But that got him a little irritated as well so he continued on until she eventually spat water on him.

I have no idea if what I just saw was good or bad either but it left me feeling completely drained.

Leon is hardly a hidden gem ;\
Still an awesome movie though. It was made before Natalie Portman forgot how to act.

For those of you who are going to watch Leon: The Professional for the very time, watch the extended, directors cut version. It contains 25 minutes of additional footage that didn't "test" well with the US audiences.
