The Man from Earth

A very good film, one of the best (at least for me) films I've watched. And the whole plot happens almost only in 1 room. :D

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0756683/

Here's one of the reviews from IMDB:

This is by far the most unusual movie I have ever seen. I am a die hard Sci-Fi buff and found myself wondering why no one has released a movie like this before. I was totally engrossed... the story pulled me in like a Black Hole, I found myself wanting more and more.

This film is tantalizing, not to your eyes, not to your ears, but rather where it counts the most...your brain. What a breath of fresh air, I felt satisfied in the end and invigorated. If I had paid 50 dollars to see this film I would not have been disappointed.

For anyone who has an intellect, is open minded and ready for an adventure born of thought, Ideas and possibilities, make absolutely certain you do not miss this film.
All candles lit within him, and there was purity. | First auto-promoted BW LP editor.

City of god and tropa de elite comes to mind. Two very good films centered around crime in rio. One from the gangsters perspective and one from the other sideish Most recommended.

Edit: yeah, thank you for smoking was amazing. Really one of these surprisingly good films.

Second The Fall.
And don't make fun of me but: Doom surprised me. I thought it would be horrible, but it was pretty entertaining.
If we hit that bull's eye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate.

Badass movie that is a nice alternative to the matrix type movies:

Watches this recently (I believe last week) but and on the dvd box it says: "forget the matrix, this movie will blow you away" and then some source in small print, but I still fail to see how this would compete/rival with the matrix in any way, these films are totally different, even though it might be the same genre.

How to Train your Dragon is one of the best films I've seen!
Doom was also pretty good. It was a good watch, only because it was just so silly.
Most of the films posted look good as well.

My Brother Tom. It's a Dogme 95 esque film about a guy that lives in the woods. Impossible to track down, but on Google Video I think.

Devils on the Doorstep. Pretty amazing Chinese movie about Japanese occupation. Might be difficult to track down.

Alejandro Jodorowsky has two movies called "Fando y Lis" and "The Holy Mountain" that are unlike anything you've ever seen: (sort of NSFW)

"Sonatine" and "Withnail and I" are both awesome as well, but I don't know how well known they are.

I thought OP said it was a list of movies you thought was bad but actually were good?

Films are like foods, some people love them others hate them, apocolypto was good though. I feel its underrated.
When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
