Well, here's what's clear: Most of this season's episodes have been called "shit" by almost everyone.
They make this episode clearly stating that if something seems like shit, you've probably just outgrown it.

Sharon's speech either means that

A) they've gotten tired of South Park and have "outgrown" it and stopped caring so much

B) or it means that the show wont change so if you don't like it, just shut the fuck up and stop watching it. and the ending was pretty much just a "fuck you" to the fans.

imo it's B. They just recently resigned their contracts for another 2 years. And on many occasions they have given "fuck you"s to fans. And also, why would they talk about "cynical asshole" types being terribly annoying for 90% of the episode if that wasn't the point they were driving at? They haven't bothered to be subtle about anything in the last few seasons. or ever really lol

I agree with what has been said regarding the conversation between Randy and Sharon. I suppose you could add to the theory that Randy trying to enjoy the music represents Trey and Matt's inability to write (and somewhat understand) the show like they did when they were younger. I know I've changed a lot since South Park was first aired. These guys are now entering middle age, naturally their minds have matured and it must have become a lot harder to create the show compared to when they were younger.

I hope they end it here. It seems that the message in this episode that if this is not the end, it is the beginning of the end. It is obvious that Matt and Trey have other things on their mind, I mean they worked their asses off on their Broadway Show and its doing incredibly well.

I would hope this is the end. But if it all is just a big troll, then maybe it was just a way of waking some fans up a little bit and making them realize that South Park is not going to go on forever and maybe they'll finish off the last 7 episodes. Either way, I liked the episode it seemed to me a bit of a wake up call for all the people who complain about the show. Matt and Trey never had to make the show, they wanted to.

Well this is the last season on their contract, I don't think they've been renewed yet, but even if they got the offer, they probably won't take it, although there is still a TON of money to be made from south park.

EDIT: Wow I didn't know they resigned for 2 more years. I guess people will just have to deal with it, I for one will always enjoy sp, but its clear it doesn't feel the same as stuff from say, season 8-9. (I was too young to watch the earlier seasons xD.) I'm getting old.

Very interesting episode. South Park has done something I've been waiting for for a long time: Something different. Even if this episode may only be the announcement that they'll continue with their style, and everyone who disagrees may go suck it, they've done so in a manner that's unique for the show.

LOLOL. Just watched the latest episode. The SP people are so brilliant, the entire ep was just a giant fuck you to all of the fans complaining about this season. The part where the doctor was explaining to stan that he was a cynical asshole because he was growing up was hirrarious. I can just imagine all the ppl who didn't get the message and complained about how shitty the episode about shit was.

Stan is south park.... I don't think it will happen without him. I think this episode was a statement about theirselves. I don't think the show is over. Maybe the last season though. At their website it says the next episode is oct 5th.

Also they obviously like the song Landslide. But it is a very amazing song.

To be honest, if it was their core fanbase becoming older, why do we still like the older episodes? Matt and Trey are kind of wrong on this one. They have gone downhill the past four or five episodes. Their style changed from really absurd stuff to run-of-the-mill popculture parody.

I'm pretty sure they write their best material when they aren't trying to bring out an episode a week relating to current event type issues. The early seasons related more to the characters and less to the issues. It seems recently they have thought of an issue that has come up and just use the characters as a vehicle to portray the issue.
