I would recommend some Ensiferum for you then, if you havnt. Its more of a folk metal band especially on the old albums, but thats where i went after Wintersun. Also its Jari's old band.

I'm also gonna get into Frosttide, if only because of their badass cover of one of my favorite songs:

For curious and people looking for new, less known bands. Band: Manipulated Slaves [metal-archives link] Country: Japan Genre: mix of thrash/power/melodeath Recommended album: Over the Black Ocean Why it's good: mix of genres, but quite tasty. They have some cool thrashy elements, some melodeath riffs and two vocalist: male and female. Nothing superb or extraordinary, but it goes along quite well. Finding their stuff is hard :< http://vimeo.com/49130494

a) a 'strong' female lead singer b) melodious guitars (think Iron Maiden). I don't like my metal overly thrash/death'y, too much of the palm muted power chord strumming as a crutch or too much of an emphasis on 'virtuosi' guitar playing. Is there anything you can recommend? edit: What I listen to in terms of metal at the moment: Iron Maiden, Rammstein, Alter Bridge, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson. So I guess relatively tame stuff as far as you're concerned, but I've been traditionally been more into rock (and not even necessarily 'hardrock').

Usually I don't hang around in this thread but I was bored and the first thing that came to my mind reading your post was this beautiful work of art here: http://mapofmetal.com/#/home It's great for exploring different metal subgenres and getting a rough feeling for what genre you might have overlooked ![]() The only CD I bought in recent times that might fit your points a) & b) would be Beautiful Sin: You might wanna check out Doro/Warlock for oldschool Hardrock/Metal with a strong female lead.

I guess the REAL Nightwish (while Tarja was still part of it) should be perfect for you. They have awesome female singer and their guitarist Emppu can keep up with the Iron Maiden guys. I'm at work atm so can't link youtube stuff, but if you search for it pick anything that's not from their latest album. My personal favorite track is Walking in the Air so if you're interested I'd start with it. EDIT: Now that I'm home here it is: EDIT2: Rofl, that Beautiful Sin song sounds exactly like:

here is the closest the Beatles ever came to Heavy Metal. i think its their best song Oh Darling... and ill finish off with something that might spark up some discusion. imo, Heavy Metal was born on this day... Led Zeppelin took us from cookie cutter 3.5 minute songs about love and harmony and told us women were the creation of the devil and the cause of all human suffering..... let's see Ed Sullivan edit that... as Jimmy Page simulates jacking off on stage ...

To me, their last three albums felt like the same song with slight variations for three hours. Dark Passion Play really broadened their scope with Tuomas infusing the old with the really old and also with the new, and in four days we'll get to see if Floor will go the route of Anette with her vocals or do something completely different.

Eh, Anette was on two albums and Once has few best songs they have imo. There's two new songs out, Elan which has been playing for some time now but doesn't really excite me all that much, the second song just released sounds much better though.

Poet and the Pendulum was by far the greatest thing on DPP, with Imaginaerum it was a bit more even but that's just a result of the songs themselves being all over the place.

Band: Lost Eden [metal-archives link] Country: Japan Genre: melodeath Recommended album: Cycle Repeats Why it's good: outside of Sweden, the best melodic death metal comes from Japan. They have bunch of bands that aren't just using sweet melodies and keyboards, but instead create a solid melodeath with just "basic" instruments. Lost Eden is not mind blowing, nor super creative or amazing technically, but a good band that is worth checking out.

I enjoy Black Metal from time to time but the fact that I've been listening to this non stop for the past 3 weeks is a testament to how incredible this album is. I like to name their style "Cultured BM" ![]()
