What's the source for EG buying secret?

It's been a rumor floating around for a while, N0tail pretty much confirmed it during the Starladder group drawing. EG and Alliance were drawn for group A, N0tail asked "Oh is it gonna be an all Garfield group~", then said it wouldn't be once TT was drawn.

That's the source of TT not being EG, not of EG buying Secret. I don't know if there is even an origin to the rumor that EG is picking up a team, it's just something that has been going around the scene for a while. Doesn't mean it didn't start from someone with inside knowledge though.

The point is that the players actually approach AG and ask for contracts cuz they know he offers better than anybody else. AG isn't like actively recruiting up to 4 or 5 teams lol, they come to him.

Lets hope that is true, I don't want just one person owning all the teams

Garfield has more money to throw around than anyone else in esports. No matter what the game is, if he wants the team he can buy the team without a second thought. Back in 1.6 he was buying teams during LAN events.

My hope is that Valve limits teams per owner to 2 at most for TI5. I don't think anyone wants to see one person owning a third of the main event.

The thing is, to causal viewers, they can't tell the difference. You see how big of a distinction he has made the brands of EG and [A]lliance. EG is a "USA" team. Alliance is a Swedish team. If you didn't have previous knowledge, you'd think they are two completely different teams.

Although I can't say this with certain confidence, I feel like Garfield is trying to do the best for the game, at the same time maintain his business. As long as all his teams remain independent and are trying their hardest against each other, I don't see a huge problem. (For now.)

(But I also really do hope that other teams can maintain their top teams, healthy competition is always great for any scene.)

But it means there's a Garfield team in the tournament that's not EG or Alliance, and there's only one other unsponsored team.

Nothing changes when EG own all teams. Only easier to get sponsored events like the pizza.gg stuff we used to have.

I mean I'm sure liquid would have a dota team too if Valve approached them and offered them a free slot in TI5 for whatever team they wanted to sponsor the way blizz has done LOL

Yeah not sure why there's such a delay between g1 and g2 in a simple bo3

Except your statement is completely baseless, when EG sucked with their old roster prior to TI 3 they didn't get any free slot at the event.

? the point was blizz did that for liquid lol.
valve aren't that dumb

When people say Garfield I imagine in the back of my head the cartoon cat counting his e-sports money and munching on lasagna.

I always thought Garfield was Scrooge McDuck swimming around in dollar bills.

a self-righteous scrooge mcduck. Every once in a while he comes down to talk about how he's friends with black people and it's totally inappropriate to say slurs or be racist.

Then he goes back up to bury his head in the gold as Stephano hits on 14 year olds and Mason continues to use slurs.

It doesn't matter if they are actually independent or not. Valve got lucky in last TI with EG losing to VG. Imagine if they reach that last game qualified and lose. Or even worse, pull a Liquid and "save strats".

A monopoly isn't good for the scene, it's just going to drive every other organization out because they can't compete with his money.

At this rate, games will be going until 2 AM local
To be honest I think few can afford Dota teams because the prize pools are extremely high.

If we go back 2-3 years you saw so many organizations in Dota because a team would only cost them like $2000 a month in salaries and travel here and there.
