AM and Ursa only lifesteal if you have vlads and that's because vlads isn't an orb but an aura effect.

"Orb" means attack modifier.

Desolater, Skadi, All lifesteal that isn't aura based, Diffusal blade etc are all "orb effects" and DO NOT STACK.

Actually Skadi stacks with lifesteal and nothing else but whatever.

The system is a bit complex to explain simply but the basic idea is that they are "buff placers" that occur on attack and don't stack. So you only buy one on each hero (aka don't buy MoM/Deso on heroes unless you don't need the lifesteal)

E: Erhmagherd i'm slow.

Double edit: Note that Crits, Bashes and MKB procs are NOT orb effects. Also note that Maelstrom/Mjollnir isn't an orb except when it procs (then it overrides other orbs).

Thanks for the answers guys! Now I understand why when I turned on frost arrow autocast on drow, my lifesteal wasn't working. Which now explains why I see people hitting Q and single using many abilities to fit in normal autoattacks for lifesteal. OH THE CLARITY I'M EXPERIENCING NOW. (Not the mana one.....)

Since I've been corrected as far as my inquiry went:

What's the best way to deal with a good CW apart from picking hard counters? At this point I'm thinking Euls/forcestaff on supports and solid ward coverage. Had a few games where i stomped hard with him, feeling like I'm Bulba or smth, even though I'm not that good. Then played against a good CW and he chewed through our team with his ganks (having seeker on opp team didn't help), while creating a ton of room for the rest of his team. I kinda knew we were boned once I realized he was pretty good. Even after i told my team that only chance we have to win is to have good vision and we need to watch for his rotations.. still didn't matter

Force staff for your supports and bkb for your carries. Constant warding and not letting your supports walk around alone is key to not feeding him (same goes for any ganker).

Clock is a good hero, and can wreck in the hands of a good player. But chances are he could equally outplay you with tons of other heroes. There really isnt a universal rule on how to not let the better player ruin your day.

Not sure if he was a better player overall (which he easily could have been, but I've stomped similarly with that hero). Or maybe clock in good hands in general is just strong in my bracket or smth. Althought last game people clearly just did not know how to play vs him. Saw obvious hooks coming for miles, and they kept walking straight.. their logic? Lol you can't dodge that anyway ...
Wish dotabuff let you look up your winrate vs heroes as well, that could be fun

Are treads or phase a better choice for clock? Is it just a matter of preference or is there a clear winner?
And what are your best item choices after getting your scepter?
i was driving down the road this november eve and spotted a hitchhiker walking down the street. i pulled over and saw that it was only a tree. i uprooted it and put it in my trunk. do trees like marshmallow peeps? cause that's all i have and will have.

its highly situational. you dont necessarily want either, sometimes you want arcanes like when your going for a mek and sometimes youl want to sit on brown boots for a bit while you finish a more urgent item. also scepter is not something you should build every game, its a luxury item on clock and often when you get it, it will be the last big item you buy before the game ends.
If you do rush out a scepter you better build some survivability and mana regen so you arnt going back to base/dying after every hook.

Clock is incredibly situational. You can be the mek carrier for your team. You can go phase, arcane or treads. You can build Necrobook, Sceptre, Pipe, Shivas, BKB, Blademail, etc.

Gotta look at the game and figure out what you need. If you end up 1v1 in cogs with enemies a lot, then treads are the best (plus you get to treads toggle for mana when using rocket). If you need to be winning your lane and doing stuff all the time even when your ult is down, consider phase for their added mobility and lane presence. If you are purely a teamfight initiator and practically a support, then mana boots help your team and also help you activate mek if you are the mek carrier (realistically I'd avoid mana boots if you aren't the mek carrier most of the time).

With respect to "big items", I don't have any good rules other than "decide what is going to help your team the most".

It depends how you wana play clock. The general trend for most hero regarding boots are phase=ganking/chasing, treads=straight up engagement or head on fight, arcane=support or better spam ability. Depends how you wana play imo.

When I go aghs on clock I find myself wishing I had built an arcanes (assuming I don't have a bottle). Treads are generally enough mana for a standard clock.

I cannot seem to play a good morphing ever. He just seems so hard to bring online. I primarily play support but I can play carries like luna ld am naix but morph I have hardly won on. I normally go linken to manta to skadi. I can't seem to fight till manta at least. I try split pushing with him too. Any pointers or tips? Or is it just a lack of farm

I am in the process of making a morphling guide, but here is the general things I have learned/discovered.

1. You need to get every possible last hit. There are a lot of carries where this isn't really required, but its critical to get his cheap items as fast as possible.
2. Linkens I believe requires your team to carry you for to long, if your team is ahead get it, but if its even it will just take to long
3. Eblade is a 100% requirement
4. Morphling loves stats more than any other hero, treads and Ring of Aquila are must get items
5. After 6.79 I think you must delay ultimate till lvl 9. Level 4 morph is now insane, honestly this is a huge problem for me as a long time morphling player, because I have to restart from scratch when to morph during battles. Good morph management is CRITICAL during teamfights, I believe it is now the hardest skill to master in the game, you have to spend a ton of time to figure this out, and if you panic for a second you become much less capable in the fight.
6. Yasha > eblade is good item build, give you great dps and fixes one of the key weaknesses of morphling compared to other top carries(movement speed). It also works out because if you straight Eblade you often won't have adaptive strike maxed by the time you get it. Its very important to buy the ghost scepter as soon as you have the gold for it as the stat increase is a big deal.
7. BKB first is a serious consideration after 6.79. Waveforming in with 700 health and activating BKB can be devastating. In the last 3 seconds you morph 30 points into strength giving you comfortable HP. But you must farm your Eblade afterwords quickly, or you fall off harder then a medusa who went linkens > rapier and dropped the rapier. But the biggest problem with going BKB first is that your farming ability is slow compared to any other item! I need to play more games with BKB first morph, but at this point I would consider it good.
8. Only do this in pubs, but getting morph level 1 and buying two sets of tangos and 5 branches makes me horny. Morph that shit to 470~ health and enjoy your 59 damage.

But I have to say morphling despite being my most played and favorite hero, is extremely underpowered compared to other carries early game, which makes me skeptical of most morphling picks in the current meta.

Disagree.

Morphling is very powerful in the early game with his high damage AoE nuke and mobility compared to other ranged agility carries.

Your #1 priority on morph is solving his mana problems because not only does that make him nearly unkillable, but it also makes him farm much faster AND do more damage in fights (knowing he has the mana to waveform in, morph up some strength, then replicate out while still being able to waveform back in once the focus changes).

As such, linkens is just the item to get. Nothing else realistically allows you as much freedom. As much as it sucks to afk rice a linkens in this meta, your choices are like acquila (solves nothing, bad item) and soul ring (reasonable excepting it makes you even squishier). Nothing else REALLY solves your mana problem except maybe an orchid but that doesn't provide the survivability that linkens does.

Once you have linkens, E-blade is a no-brainer.

After that buy whatever you want. BKB if you need it, Manta is always good, Butterfly is siiiick especially with e-blade, etc.

The goal is to finish E-blade at a point when it will still 1-shot supports so that you don't need to worry about being controlled in fights. Once that isn't a reliable way to stay uncontrolled, move on to BKB.

Early yasha is so unnecessary since movespeed is NOT an issue for morph given that morph is probably 2nd in mobility only to Antimage of all the carries in the game.

Its fine if we disagree, we probably play the hero differently on some level.

Yeah linkens is amazing on morphling, I often get it after my E-blade rush, or if I feel like I am safe to get it(rarely), or if we are ahead. Everything you said about linkens is true to a large degree. But 6.79 did reduce morphlings mana strain by a good amount. I do believe that replicate situation is so situational its silly to even bring up, first the enemy has to focus you, then you have to not be silenced, then you have to not take much damage because if you do your influence when you go back in will be negligible.

I really don't know why people believe morphling has amazing in fight mobility, yeah morphling is definitely #2 when it comes to split pushing, but auto attacking wise his low movespeed really hurts his effective dps by a significant degree. One of the (many) reasons why skadi is so good on morphling is because it solves this problem. But yes, I should have made it clear that early yasha is one of many item builds that I believe are good, I don't believe its the best, I was just offering random tips so it may have came off as its something you should do every game.

I agree with you Reuental. I believe yasha is also good early because it easy to farm into if you are not sure you can farm a big item like linken first. I dont know why Sn0_man believe that morph has amazing mobility when he start with one of the worst movement speed in the game (285 that is pudge lvl). Then combine that with letting him get treads, the slowest boots, and he damn slow enough as it is. He also has rather mediocre attack range and combine that with poor movement and NO slow or reliable stun, all he can really do is waveform in and then auto attack early. If it doesnt kill them, then they generally pretty safe once they run pass him. He has great mobility if you are referring to him split pushing.

Another good item that solve his mana problem is drums. I personally dont like ring of aquila myself since i think drums + preservence (when building into linken) is enough mana regen because it almost EXACTLY the same stats as a linken with these 2 item combine. Of course if you can farm a linken then you can just go straight linken but it can be pretty difficult to just farm straight linken sometime.

Mobility compared to other ranged agi carries*, and that's almost irrefutable. He's got a 1000 range mobility skill from level 1 on an 11 second cooldown, and replicate offers some heavy mobility as well. The only other ranged agi carry I can think of more mobile than he is is Weaver.

I like this. Drums into linkin because the threshold is way lower, If u start (like me) with this hero. This seems OK strat to learn the hero, drums allways good right?

Do u buy boots or do u skip them, i saw draskill (GD studio analist) skip them once?

Again, Skadi first item provides you a comfortable mana buffer without needing to resort to a regen item that creates a gap in your combat power. Poor buildup is hardly an argument because virtually nothing that Morphling could possibly build as a first item has buildup superior to 2xUltimate Orb anyway.

Casual Yasha vs. Casual Ultimate Orb first item the Casual Ultimate Orb is stronger given that Strength and Agi are basically interchangeable for Morphling at that phase of the game, so you're looking at +20 (Str + Agi) + 10 Int of Mana vs. +16 Agi, 15 AS 10 MS. The Yasha stats aren't better than the Ultimate Orb given Morphling's needs at that ponit in the game.

Yasha becomes better once you have a major item that solves your mana problems.

He is fairly mobile when compare to most AGI hero range hero but that is mainly because there is not alot of range AGI hero with high mobility but Sn0_man compared Morphling mobility to AM and I dont think Morphling and AM are any where close in term of mobility in fights. Replicate isnt really that reliable of a mobility in fight and it generally used as an escape mechanism/split pushing. Wave form 11 sec CD is not that good, it is only decent considering how slow of a hero he is. Compare to AM blink of 6 sec and weaver stealth of 6 sec, it cant even be compared when factoring in his movement speed.

Generally ya, hard to see situation where boots arent necessary imo. Generally buy it before or after ring of health depending on lane
