haha

when jugg ults, two things happen:

1. Ultimate hits. This is the 3,6,9 hits that are defined in the descripton of his ult. I think each go for like 200 damage or something. Jugg is invulnerable during these attacks.

2. Normal attacks. These attacks, if fast enough, take place between the ultimate hits. These normal attacks can proc crits, mjolinir, sange and yasha, life steal, cleave, etc.

It is quite possible that your nyx shield hit him during his normal attack, thereby stunning him. In the cases where your shield failed to stun him, he probably hit your shield with an ultimate hit.

I"m talking about the circle that appears before the actual blast goes off. Can the enemy see that?

no that is invisible to enemies

are you sure..

Let me try to articulate myself a wee bit better:

- In Dota 1, netherblast worked like this: you set the aoe. Pugna pauses. Blast goes boom.

- In Dota 2, netherblast works like this: you set the aoe. Pugna pauses while simultaneously a circle appears in the blast radius. Then the blast goes boom.

So my question is, that circle that appears while Pugna is pausing: is that invisible to enemies?

And for those who say it doesnt matter -- even though it's a slight difference, it was possible to play a lot of mind games with the old Pugna blast animation by mixing it up with your normal stop animation.

Yes of course it matters, and yes the circle is invisible to enemies. A bunch of visual indicators have been added to various spells in dota2 to make them easier to use for the caster and his allies. Other notable examples, linas stun and invokers sunstrike both have the same type of indicators as pugnas blast now. Not split earth for some reason though. TAs refraction now has a huge protoss shield style indicator when it's active. But again all these are only for the caster and members of his team.

No problem! And I feel you pain regarding certain heroes looking too similar. The lack of wc3 style player specific colouring hurts a lot here I feel. Everything is freaking blue or purple >< Heroes, spell effects, everything. Took me months to be able to differentiate things like: vs, void, dazzle and wd at a sub second glance in dota2 lol.

Jugg is invulnerable through the ENTIRE omnislash. There is no distinction between getting hit by the ult slashes and normal attacks for the purpose of Spiked Carapace.

What happens is that there's a bug currently with Jugg's ulti where the invulnerability is sometimes not applied properly. In the case of Nyx's Spiked Carapace, the stun will stop Jugg if Nyx is the INITIAL TARGET. The timing of the invulnerability is not correct so he will be stunned and stop the ultimate. However, if Jugg ults someone else and then JUMPS to Nyx, he will not be stunned out of the omnislash.

whoa this answer is righter than mine.

i only answered this way cuz i remember you could time a tiny toss in the middle of an omnislash to stop it, if you were so lucky to toss the jugg.

If your timing is good, you can force staff out of it. I think running into fog at just the right time will also cancel it.

So, when I'm pulling as a support, the carry shouldn't be coming in and taking the last hits, right? They have a lane for that.

They ussually don't do that because while you are pulling there are creeps dieing in the lane that they would lose by doing that, there is no reason to not get them to get the neutrals instead, they give less money and someone else can get them. If he is doing that you may as well go kill the creeps in the lane he is ignoring.

But it's not like there is a rule that says creeps in the lane are for the carry and neutrals are for the support, if they for some reason are unable to get the creeps in lane I can see they grabbing the neutrals. I'm not sure I fully understand what you mean.

Like, I'll be pulling as leshrac and the pa comes in and starts autoattacking the jungle creeps while lane creeps are slamming up against our tower.

She should probally be killing the lane creeps, but since she isn't you may as well do that yourself, since they are being wasted right now. Also depends on the lane, how you opponents are playing, how safe it is, etc. as anything.

Having recently started playing (and having played a fair bit of LoL) I'm still a bit lost when it comes to items. I'd really like to get a better grasp on item builds, because I often find that the recommended items or in-game guides really weird sometimes.

Are there any "noob trap" items that I should avoid buying, or at the contrary ones that are generally good and that I can safely buy when I'm in doubt?

Drums of Endurance is pretty much universally accepted as a go-to item which is almost always good. It's really cost efficient and since it raises all stats by 9 while giving movement and attack speed, you can see how it's good on almost every type of hero. If it's early-mid game and you have no idea what to buy, chances are drums of endurance is a decent idea.

As for newb-traps... I don't really think so, all items generally have good and bad aspects and while some items are optimal on a hero, other items are fine. For example, Scythe of Vyse is one of the more optimal items on queen of pain while a euls staff is not so great, but that doesn't mean buying euls on QoP ruins the hero or makes you a newb, there might even be situations where it's a good choice. As long as you can go "I feel like I need this" and you know an item which gives you that, it's probably not catastrophic to get it.

It's more important to worry about cost-efficiency and how the game is going. Again, if you're playing queen of pain and it's going badly, rushing a scythe of vyse is probably a bad idea, regardless of how good it is on QoP, since it costs quite a bit and the whole time you're saving up for it, you're not getting stronger. Giving up and getting some cheaper items might help you not fall behind opponents. For the same reason, expensive items meant for farming is not a good idea to get unless you're rushing them and are able to get them early enough and planing to farm enough for them to be worth it. Items such as Hand of Midas, Battlefury and Radiance are probably as close as you get to newb-traps.

On lower levels, most commonly bought "wrong" items in general are Radiance and Vanguard. Most overlooked item is probably BKB (and TP scrolls -_-).

There's plenty more weird things going on in those lists, but they are very hero-specific.
