Or at least Crystalys - it's a relatively low-cost item that give you a good crit. chance?
Simple answer: It's mostly because the carries that are used either have an inbuilt crit or need other items more.
Long answer: Usually there are better items to get in games. Agility carries tend to get butterfly and you NEED that mkb so they don't evade a large portion of your damage. Bkbs are almost always a must, diffusal is great mid-game item and manta increases your damage by 66% due to illusions (also rids of debuffs and such). Lifesteal is great for standing your ground, butterfly increases your effective hp against physical damage, battlefury is great for farming, bashers/abyssal might be in order to shut down the other carry, AC is great on strength carries/LD, desolator is great midgame damage, etc.
The point is deadalus is,at the end of the day, a raw damage item. It is most useful late in the game and gives nothing else which is why it isn't seen nowadays.
EDIT: of course i was second after yango..

Please, let's not have the Linken's discussion in two threads at once...
cf. General pp. 2859 through to pretty much now.

The thing about linkens on weaver is that linkens is a sort of mixed bag sort of item- it gives stats, good regen, and the obvious benefits of the spellblock. Theres a lot of ways to analyze this item in particular, but essentially the reason you pick this item up is that you benefit from all 3 a lot. Weaver is a hero who needs stats, since his base stats and stat gain are so awful, and hes one of these heros, because of his fragiloty, suffers more from lockdowns + silences than most heros. The spellblock is one method of over coming this weakness, as it allows him to be practically impossible to being ganked. One of the problems is the regen is lost on him, so im more inclined to think that a bkb is a good item choice on weaver as an alternative. I wouldnt say linkens is bad, but i think its more situational than core on him. I might write more on this later, but long posts suck on phones

Linkens is awful on Weaver. Aquila and urn will give you enough stats/utility for midgame fights for 3.5k less gold.
|
Keep the god awful linkens discussion on that other thread. It's not about the stats. That's all that really needs to be said about it. Or go watch Mouz vs. DD game three that just happened. Such an awful item that literally every fucking time we see a weaver in tournaments it gets picked up. I'm liking the logic.

Next time your pub games play like a Pinoy 3-core splitpush strat that actually demands Linken's, let me know. It doesn't happen that often in pubs.

the mouz vs dd game is an awful example lol linkens literally blocked one relevant spell, which was rubick lift (and bane ulti but rubick never stole that i think) also their razor built an aghs for some reason idk what that was about
linkens is decent on weaver, but it's pretty situational

Yep because linkens and ags won them that game in any way shape or form.
Oh wait. No instead they almost threw the game back to mouz because of their item choices and had the early game gone any worse for them they would have been completely useless items.

Lol, so much passive-aggressive sarcasm.
How does half-damage get factored in? Like sunstrike at lv2,4,6, bristle's damage reduction leaving some fractional number, slark's q at level 1 (75 damage over 10 ticks), etc.

We saw DD trying to draft a line up based aorund OD aura : undying dazzle CK and I think it was razor. Given that defensive trilanes carries often hit 7 quite fast, is it ever seen to pick a trilane based around OD aura or any very early push line up based on his aura? The execution was not great from DD but the idea of having dazzle and undying abusing his aura seems like a good idea to push very early. I think it's a bit hard to draft without being too obvious but if it is heard of... You could even say fuck to stuns and pick necro as carry, AA is a must ban though.

What is with all the DOTO? Where did it come from?
I don't even know how to phrase that question better, is it just standard "Defender of the Obvious?"
|
I never understood where people came up with "doto" or "doter" or "dooter" or whatever other term people use to call DotA myself.
I assumed doto was some form of intentional typo like "volvo" when referring to Valve.

volvo actually makes cars

i swear we manage to somehow have a discussion about linkens on weaver like once a month.............

Doto = russian pronunciation. Doter = tobi pronunciation Dooter = sounds delicious

Okay... so... how do you jungle with LS as dire?
Normally I rely on chokepointing the medium camps to get me to level 3ish without burning all my regen, and the fact that the non-pull medium has no choke is really screwing me up.
If the top lane tells me to gtfo the pull camp and I get some difficult spawns, I can end up having leg it back to fountain...

Ideally they let you clear 1 chokepoint stack for level 3 because at level 3 you can chokepoint jungle the hard camp without losing significant health. If they don't let you do that, then you pretty much have to do the medium and easy camps or hope for Trolls on the hard camp. One thing is that you should send yourself a Salve instead of going home (preferably send the Salve when you know your regen is going to run out and don't wait for it to be completely dry). It's a lot faster.

The more I play (and the better opponents I play against), I find it increasingly difficult to win 2v2 lanes as a (melee) hard carry. I queue with 2 (sometimes more) friends, who usually play my lane support and mid, but I normally feel like I'm way behind early, but our opponents (towards the top of the normal bracket at a guess) carry rarely farms effectively, so we rely on this to be able to win. Is there any way to do well in 2v2 lanes with carries like AM, void, spec(, maybe dusa but I haven't played her in a few weeks), or am I almost entirely dependent on my support making my life easy? And if so, what do I/he need to do to enable this. For reference, two games I played this weekend where I got wrecked are:
http://dotabuff.com/matches/198138724 AM SD vs WD SS until they took our t1
http://dotabuff.com/matches/199216670 Void Lich vs ES DS

This is why hard carries are not good for pub games. Even in competitive play, the harder carries are fairly situational because of how their midgame influence can be somewhat limited.
They work well when your team freefarms you, and they generally have to get that help to get to the point where they can handle the lane on their own.
If you're playing a pub game (and even not in pub games), it's better to play "softer" carries that have an easier time making things happen for themselves, rather than relying on their supports. CK, Luna, Lifestealer, Gyro, Weaver, etc. Just because you're the safe lane carry doesn't mean you should play a dead farm hero (you almost never should in pub games).
