In the game vs COL it's also worth noting that beast master is also a deny pick vs swindle. Actually, EG may value it even higher than 2 picks out of 5 games, since COL grabbed BM in games 2/3 I believe.

i totally agree, i think EG wanted to experiment a little more with the BM in the group stages but coL denied it from them. i think the BM+NP combo is actually really strong if NP goes a right-click build. the push and global offensive they provide together is really good. the greediness of it as well really suits EG's style.

Yeah a right click NP is so much better than the rat NP for me. It is so strong and it's hex plus tree block is insane lockdown as seen vs VP when he looks sven and kills him for one.

I don't want to go into too much analysis yet on some of the stuff EG is doing, but it's noticeable that ppd & company have figured out how to integrate the farming among all of their players a lot better. Though a lot of that is to do with the map changes. They're really playing with the general 1-5 farming priority concept.

The main reason being that it opens up a whole lot more of what EG wants to do, while not limiting as many of the hero options. (See what happened at MDL when Sumail was on Puck or Batrider.)

After seeing EG play versus Fnatic, I think part of the reason why people perceive Suma1l to be in a slump (I don't think so) is that he's trying to expand his hero pool. He's already shown he can play Batrider, but also being able to play Nyx and do well without getting much farm (and playing a hero that doesn't scale well late compared to heroes he normally plays) has shown how much he's been cashing in on his potential to play most heroes mid and succeed.

You don't really need farm with nyx if you are killing heroes and there's even the bounty hunter track added. Though it's not really like lesh or storm where you can farm and do stuff but the hero still functions the way suma1l excels which is play making+murdering people.

It also helps that fnatic didn't managed to actually help viper from dying over and over again.

Today's games got me excited not for how big of stomps but how good individuals were. Rtz was sick on sven all be it he did get free farm and giving rtz free farm u just lose. But that was great from him. Universe faceless game 2 perfect game, Fear bounty and his Pottm great plays again. Then suma1l playing Nyx was good to watch him play so well in tandem with Fear. PPD nice drafting and did fine. So all in all EG individually looked good on top of stomping a "under par?" Fnatic i don't know only time will tell if they are any good later on but i was hyped.

Also tomorrow we get a ppd vs puppey but with puppey 30 second picks haha. Peter going to enjoy this i feel.

The point I was making is that is not the old Suma1l's style. Lesh and Storm are much better at playmaking at 30-40+ minutes than Nyx.

I don't think anyone has been saying sumail is in a slump. But yeah, he's been ridiculously flexible over the last couple months playing every lane, and in the major so far has played a different hero every game!

Pretty dominant showing from EG today, but against arguably the worst team in the upper-bracket -- hoping for some good games vs secrekt!

Considering the result of the lower bracket, I think LGD has claim to the title of "worst upper bracket" team.

And Sumail hasn't been in a slump. What people have taken a long time to realize is that, aside from Invoker, the Mid Lane has really changed in 6.86. Or changed back, depending on your view. You've seen a lot more 3 position Mid heroes compared to 1/2 position mids.

I wonder if EG will pull out the Arteezy Lycan in game 1, going for a hyper-push line up, so Puppey doesn't have a chance to formulate much of a response during the draft. Considering how rare Draft Penalties are at the top-end competition, I wonder if they've gamed out how to handle them before.

I think EG need to be aggressive and gank, not necessarily 'push'.

Lycan is OKAY in that regard, though, but I'd prefer something else in this case - maybe jugg, gyro etc.

Win or loose EG never have excuses. if they win they win out of their own merit. if they loose they loose because their opponent was better then them on that particular day. at the level of EG and Secret outdrafts mean very little. both these teams have shown that they can go beyond their drafts and make them work through sheer skill.

Pretty decent tourney. I still think they are having some coordination issues and that sumail is playing very poorly. Fear is amazing though that's for sure.

So my friend and I feel like the team still isn't' gelling, that Sumail and Arteezy are still clashing. So do you think it's good that even with this that EG can get top 3 at the major, or is it bad that it's been months and it still hasn't been sorted out and might not be sorted out.

Aka, both Sumail and Arteezy seems to want lots of farm, but isn't enough space, Sumail has been left with the non scaling heroes for the most part, and Arteezy the true carry but it leaves them 4 protect 1 and they run out of damage.

Where is the Sumail Invoker, Lina still a decent hero, Qop, something that can scale and make plays. I feel like EG has been winning either fast games around 30 minutes before the lack of damage becomes apparent, or they just lose late as they get out carried.

Fear played overall really amazing this tournament on Mirana/Earth Spirit, everything pretty much.

The roster is fine. The final series was just a drafting blunder.

holy shit stop picking DS and sven(most of the time the 2nd pick sven) first wth is with that.

I think ppd gets caught in a loop when drafting occasionally. He feels a certain hero is really strong and because it isn't banned, he will continue to pick it (dark seer happens to be the hero in this tourney). When you draft the same (high skilled/wombo combo) heroes every game, it makes it easier for opposing teams to draft around it.

That being said, I agree Artour and Sumail are clashing in the farm department, but I personally think it is because Sumail can't play any of the current mid heroes well. This isn't the same dominating Sumail we have seen in the past. His invoker is lackluster for the most part, ember has fallen out of the mid meta, TA apparently isn't worth picking, storm is obviously garbage, lina and qop are decent but ppd apparently thinks they're more trash tier than pugna (lol game 3 vs secret). Disappointing end to the major for EG considering we barely picked the Void/mirana/clinkz combo that worked so well in previous games, the bounty/nature's prophet combo etc etc. And last picking naga in a series decider match with a jungler is just... ppd pls.

ppd looked a little too fixated on the Sven/DS picks in that last series and it cost them. Against both Secret and TL they also took some poor fights after expending a lot of cooldowns against LD bears, which was messy.

Fear was a monster though.

EG is still the most consistent top team. They were the only favorite going in to make it to the top 6, and they made it all the way to top 3. They've had one (I think? Is it two?) bad tournament since TI, and they should probably be the favorite for the next tournament. There are 16 teams in a tournament like this - others rise and fall, but EG always goes very far.

The second game was massively changed by the cour snipe. EG never got a chance to recover from that, it's hard to say how the draft would've played out otherwise.

Sven vs. NP is obviously a poor matchup that they have to counter with a changed items build or something if this meta continues. Or value NP/LD higher. Sumail played fine in the series when given a chance to play - his Nyx did very well G1.
